Chen Long underrated badminton player, his been battling with and around the legends, he has become the legend.
True. The fact he hit his prime when lin dan and lcw at the top but still can won some big tournament and the only player who close to them

Those who underate him don't know that he has one Olympic gold medal one silver medal and one bronze. Even he is two times world champion. One of the best players ever produced in badminton

My interpretation of Chen Long being underrated is because 1) Lin Dan exists, 2) his personality is not flamboyant, and 3) his game is not flashy.
1) is particularly important because most people aren't going to remember more than one player from a country unless they are distinctly different e.g. Ginting and Christie. I'm sure Chen Jin wasn't particularly popular even though he was also a World Champion because he was overshadowed by Lin Dan, and also more of a humble defensive player.
But Chen Long's achievements are anything but underrated. He has All England, WC gold, and Olympic Gold (+ silver and bronze), which you could say already puts him above Peter Gade (never won an Olympic medal or WC gold) and Taufik (never won All England). We all remember LCW better because he is the only significant MS player to bear the Malaysian flag, came so close to winning the big gold, and had a rivalry with Lin Dan.
Chen long is No.1 defender. It's very be difficult to take point smashing. Very strong as well. His court covering ability is superb!

But he has some difficulties when fighting against left hander like Lin Dan and Momota. Perhaps left hander has deceptive swing and harder to predict the ball direction.

uday Gadge well kind of true , but to be considered A LEGEND ..LEGEND ! YOU have to be consistent at the top thats what makes u a legend .. he isn t even old and already bot showing his best.. compared to the other Legends he just loses in matter of status . He is an awesome athlete, do not get me wrong, but a Legend does not lose as easy as he does right know considering he is still young
forget about legend, most people don't even consider him a great player, in 2014-2016 he was clearly the best player. I mean he did win all the major titles, even LCW or Taufik couldn't do that.

taufic never won the All england, but chen long did, taufik won worlds once, chen long did it twice, and after his peak days taufik was totally overshadowed by Lin dan and chong wei. But people don't see chen long the same way they do for taufik.
uday Gadge People remembered Taufik because he changed badminton forever. He is the first one who showed total control over shuttle and racket. The first one who showed how backhand shot should be played. The entire badminton community was never the same after that.

Lol I'm a Chinese and I don't think that's offended, Chen Long is actually good at defending but that's not the trend for men's single. Now most of those top players are trying to create the chances for attacking instead of defending.
I don't think it's inappropriate. A lot of people may have played some excellent defense, but most of them need the help of luck. Only a few top players can often make high level defense, there is no doubt that Chen Long is one of them.

One of my favourite shuttlers, he can make impossible word forgotten from this world.. He is Chen Long.. and each shuttler who faces him, always has chills down his spine.. Even if he wins... he has to face a challenge... Chen Long has very strong legs , that allows him do all those crazy defence and still being completely balance
in my opinion CL at least same level as LCW , coz during 2011 their head to head quite equal

Yes I love him, And he is hibernating for sure. He'll show up anytime. But if LCW and Lin and are playing in the world cup, I don't think they'll let win anyone else their lasts cups. Hoping for LCW to win all tournaments, specially Olympics gold. He deserve it. And he'll take it. My prayers are with him.
