Thailand Rainy Season | Good Time to Come?

  • In today's vlog, I talk about the monsoon rainy season in Thailand and whether it's worth visiting Thailand during this time. This year we've had flooding, thunderstorm, and heavy rain. Chiang Mai has had a lot of floods this year and it got me thinking, would I come for a holiday during Thailand's wet season?

    Good on you Wayne. Me, 2 weeks left of a 3 month Thailand stint. Spent 12 nights here early Sept. Don't ride a bike, so kept things very simple and local. For me, wet weather has been fine as I've done a lot of stuff in many trips before. This basically meant regardless of where I've been in Thailand, I've been happy to reconnect with the old girl from 2019 and watch the world go by. That said, as time has gone on, the rain generally has gotten worse, so if you've wanted to get out, do touristy things, for example outside Chiang Mai, it would've been a tough ask....quite a bit to do locally! This supposedly has been a wetter than normal rainy season, so that's worth factoring in as well. Would I come back again in the rainy season...yes. If I was a first time traveler to Thailand, would I come in the wet season? That would depend on what you wanted to do and if for example you were a young fam. Wouldn't dismiss, but you would need to give some thought. Bit of a waffle fest. Be well. Cheers

      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great comment Mark, i couldn't have said it better myself. 👍. That's right all depends on what someones plans are. Bringing kids and a family might not be good in rainy season, but like you mentioned, still plenty to do. We like a good waffle on here mate. Thanks Mark.

    I was out and about today, got very wet, was dry before I got home. My problem is some of the paths are very slippery when wet so I have to be extra careful (not being so young anymore). I definitely love the rainy season, gives some relief from the heat. But then again I am here for a longer period so I am not trying to fit a lot in, in a short amount of time.😊

    You don't have to tell me about rainy season in CM Wayne. I lobbed there in July one year after doing the the tourist cherry pick in the previous years. It was pissing down most days but the locals knew how to cope. Just part of life in Northern Thailand. No big deal. They are very resilent. We can learn a lot from them. Mind you I now live in far north Queensland so tropical weather is part of everyday life. We at least we have decent drainage systems so a big wet fades really fast. Had a big thunder storm last night and rain today. Needed it as it has been hot as hell with no relief. Rainy season hits in December through to March. Wish I could make it back to Chiang Mai but am on a short leash health wise right now. I envy you. CM is magic whether it's wet or dry. What ever happens you won't freeze your arse off.

    Beginning this Raining Season, I plan to buy one or two of those Quite Large umbrellas for walking in the hills on rainy months. These umbrellas are about 1.5 meters, and are about the largest size one can easily carry in one hand, and are excellent for sudden downpours, as well as being sturdy enough to stand up to a good blow. I am not sure where to buy these in Chiang Mai. They even have this size for use by monks, and these monk umbrellas come in monk colors, either brown or some sort of saffrony shade. I would be willing to pay Bt.200 for one of those if I knew where to find a shop selling them. Let's all pray for rain. I have had enough of the smoke for this year. Man, that girl is NaRak!

I'm staying in Bacolod a few weeks this year and a few weeks in Chaing Mai next year to weigh the difference. Think I'll do a month starting the 2nd week of October to miss the rainy season. It looks like the rainy season has been extra rainy this year 😉 When I am staying somewhere for a while then rainy months do not bother me. However for a 2 week holiday, I think I would avoid this time of year for the simple reason that I live in a country that rains A LOT 🤣so my 2 weeks getaway would defo be planned around either the hot reason or Thailand's cold season which is still way hotter than a typical Scottish summer 🤣

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's right, if we're from a country that's always raining and cold ( the UK 🤣) than anytime is great in Thailand for sure. A 2 week holiday with kids and a family, sun would normally be at the top of the list. Thanks Monica.
