bout 2 years ago for me. I listened to them do a killer cover of "gouge away" by one of my favorite bands, Pixies. Long May Fontaines D. C. ROCK!

I found them because I was at the Arctic Monkeys concert back in September and they were the opening band. Came an Arctic Monkeys fan, left a Fountains DC fan as well.❤
61. Bringing me back to Joy Division. The Jam. The Smiths. The Clash. Even the Cure -- the whole vibe. I could go on. I am back to 80s Post Punk but better. Gives me a reason to live too.
I seen them live in Limerick... unbelievable live. Go hear them. Proud to be Irish.

going to see them in France this summer. (After Shame a few times last year). Proud to be french. Proud to listen to english and irish bands.
I am 98 years old, at this very moment this is my favorite music, I would like to tell the younger people out there to watch out for this band if they keep going and doing what they are doing, the whole world will get to know about them in the next few years, mark my words they will be proven to be fully correct.
Great music is ageless!

I love everyone trying to show of their musical knowledge by loosely relating Fontaines DC to other bands. Just listen to them and take them for what they are. There's nothing new under the sun.

Me too for the moves - but didn't he have Mark E Smith's famous jumper/tanktop from circa 1980 on for half the set ? The singing style / singing in his own accent, reminds me more of MES. 2 Mancunian legends ye can't go wrong with though...

I like the rawness of their live performances; reminds me of the poor sound quality of live bands in the '60s.
Their album perfectly captures their live sound and is a reflection of the truth of this superb band - there's no bullshit about them. Honest, genuine, heartfelt, passionate, literate, relevant.
Am I the only one that feels like this recording (maybe because of the gating) feels like the sound doesn't get the time to work? Their playing is tight, and this is incredibly heartfelt, yet the way this recording is done, it almost sounds dead IMO...

MES's jumper
....they're not the most tuneful bunch. I like the Peddler's Toy because there is an attempt by the singer to carry a tune at least during the verses. He can sing! I like the guitar and rhythm section of this band and some of their songs.

Great band, brilliant debut record one of the most exciting I've heard in a good while. The lads set at Forbidden Fruit in Dublin was mighty, catch them live.

Post-punk purists will hate this comparison but the emphasis on krautlike repetition and catchy refrains reminds me of a looser Antidotes-era Foals, incredibly exciting band and most importantly, Irish!

This fucking band gets me excited about music like when I was 16. I hope they go onto to world dominance. They have said fuck conventional wisdom. They define creativity freedom. It's loud and clear. Hope future record labels stay the fuck out of their way.

Derivative, definitely. Sounds like Hyped up Joy Division, absolutely. But it’s light years better than most of the crapola out there. They’ll get better over time. Happy to see this band out there.

The hip hop scene and singer songwriters are full of that now, it's class! But yeah these are the first I know of in punk.

Shane Ross Yes! Couldn’t imagine these songs sounding any better than on the album til I heard this. Did you notice the words are clearer on the single version of Chequeless Reckless/ Boys in a Better Land -the one with the two kids smoking on the cover? Unless it’s just my speaker.
If Mark E Smith had replaced Ian Curtis..they may have sounded a little something like this :)
