- I found some videos of myself playing some of my favorite guitar solos in 2019, and decided to do some progress videos tackling the same solos today. The first time I tried to learn this solo I couldn't play anything in time, so I learned the notes but couldn't play along with the song. I am not Jimmy Page but its cool to see the progress in phrasing/timing and just general control.
Thanks for watching!
Im a beginner .. how long will it take to reach your level of prowess
Hi! It depends on your practice and motivation. The more consistently you practice, even if it’s just a little bit every day, the more quickly you will progress. 10 minutes a day is better than and hour once a week.
Also, you want to have reachable goals that are challenging, and you want them to be mostly enjoyable. Find songs you like and learn how to play the parts you think are cool, then try to learn the whole song. If it’s too hard, learn a different song but keep coming back to it and you will see it gets easier to learn.
Play with others as much as you can too. It can be a lot of fun, and it really stretches you. I like to play with others, so being able to play well with others has been a great motivation for me to get better at some skills. It also motivated me to try to understand music theory a little more to learn how everything fits and relates to each other.
I started taking guitar seriously in 2016, I feel like I progressed a lot in the first 2 years, and then I have had off and on steady progress and lulls. Sometimes it feels like no progress but you are actually just getting better and refining your current skills. Progress isn’t always new skills, it can be tightening current skills too.
I still feel like I am at the beginning and have a long way to go, but I’d say from beginner to comfortable with playing this way was probably about 4-5 years for me. Hopefully this helps! Keep at it!
