They have been reliable trucks with basic maintenance. These 6 cylinder 2.7 trucks are torque work horses and get the job done. Mid to late 30s OTD new and cheap to fix / maintain comparing our diesel fleet repair cost. Thanks for the post Aaron.

Mine is in the dealer ship right now, 5-5-20 , took it in for an oil change yesterday, technician called me back to see all the oil leaking, so I brought it to where I bought it and they have it now. I really hope the technician knows what he's doing. It's a 2019,with 10,000 miles. Like the truck, hope I don't have to many more problems.
Just a suggestion for anyone who's going to do this job themselves or at a shop. 1. Remove pan and let oil drip out for 24 hours. 2. Make sure the surface is clean, AND WITHOUT ANY OIL when applying silicone 3. After installing new pan let it dry for 24 hours before putting new oil. That's what I've done, it's been 2 weeks and no oil leaks. Good luck.
The New (Aug 2019) 19-2205 TSB does not recommend the 24 hour drying time. I am hoping my 4th replacement with the new TSB gets me better results. Good luck

I’ve called tons of the aftermarket companies in the game and none them make it for the 2.7 only the 3.5. And I agree there is plenty of sales to be made on these pans. I for one would buy one fast. Hello Aaron! I think Ford now has a new oil pan design with a gasket available now Let me go find the part # and put it on here if that is ok with you.
Apparently the new oil pans have a O-ring tape seal that helps with the leakage. However unfortunately those oil pans are not transferable to the earlier model 2.7 L
Makes no sense whatsoever. If Ford just wanted to save weight, they should've put an aluminum oil pan on an aluminum engine using nothing other than anaerobic gasket maker for the seal. Unless oil pan sustains a major impact, anaerobic sealer is damn near impossible to break. I'm up to 110k miles and the only issue I've experienced is the oil pan, continually...
Why so expensive on 4wd? Does the front differential have to come out?
GNR325 yes, it’s 6hrs. to do it. Because of that front differential. That guy is lucky no front differential to remove.
How has this held up?
Best video , thank you , great job !
Have a feeling the 4WD version would suck to do
Very well video made.
My 5.0 plastic pan is leaking too, appointment tomorrow...
My 2015 has 25K miles and is already leaking oil.
Just finished changing the oil pan myself. Everything went smoothly except tightening the screws to 85 lbs that broke one of the screws and now i’m waiting until tomorrow to see if its leaking or not. Fu*k that plastic oil pan thing.
85 inch lbs not 85 lbs
As mentioned INCH lbs. NOT 85 FT. lbs!
Lol
Please tell me there's a metal replacement oil pan out there somewhere.
Did you ever find one?
@@minecrafter4623 no
@@minecrafter4623 don't suppose y'all have found one out there?
@@savage5128 I haven’t found anything yet. Might be aftermarket options. But ford doesn’t offer anything other than heir OEM oil pan that’s the same composite. I have over 150k miles on my 2015 f150 might just keep an eye on it and make sure I don’t lose oil. Dealership parts and labor is $1,800 for a fix…
@@minecrafter4623 damn! Thank you for the info. I've got 38,000 mi on my 2021. I change the oil every 5,000 miles. I haven't noticed anything just yet. I'll definitely keep an eye out.
Anyone know the repair cost if done at the dealer? Or if it would be fixed under warranty if odometer is 42k miles?
They wanted to charge me over 900 bucks.
$1500 is what they’re trying to charge me. 4wd
5.5 hours of work is what I was told…$550 for the labor alone!
I did one and didn’t let it drain out completely and came back 3 days later. doing it again , waited 24hrs to drain and install pan, let the rtv dry for 5 hrs and I’m about to add oil and start it. Hoping for the best
How did your repair hold up? Did you use the Motorcraft rtv or a common parts store type?
Good Video
Leave it to engineers to switch to a plastic oil pan when steel has worked so well for so long. Wow. Shame on ford for not recalling these vehicles and fixing this mess once and for all.
On an unrelated note, the tsb says not to use metal scrapers to remove the gasket because they will scratch the aluminum surface. I see he used a razor. Nice.
How much is this work? I have a 2018 expedition max platinum 4WD. The dealership was charging me over 900 bucks for this work.
2017 F-150 4x4 XLT - I just got a quote from my Ford dealership to replace the leaking oil pan. $1600!!
How many miles does that truck have? Great video!
Thanks! Truck in the video had 138k
Phew, I was starting to worry my 2016 Regular cab 4x4 2.7 has 35,000 on it..
My 2015 4x4 has 53,195 miles and I'm on my 3 oil pan. All pans have been replace by my local Ford dealership. They act dumbfounded every time I bring it in
@@ronaldmorrison2571 Le Bummber, I have a 2020 2.7l F150.. I must say whomever designed this RATs 🐀 nest of an Engine clearly never had an Engineer degree. A V6 is a SYMETRIC engine..., 2, 3 cylinders block banks.. the Engine should look so.. air intakes etc...
Is this the same for my AWD Edge sport?
Literally just finished my AWD Edge Sport. You must drop the subframe to allow room to shimmy the pan sideways over the sub-frame and then back under the exhaust pipe after the Cat. the sub-frame can be lowered so its just hanging from its bolts. Disconnect the subframe from the trans mount first.
I have a 2017 Fusion Sport and looking at my fourth oil pan leak. Big problem for this engine regardless of which vehicle it is in. Same subframe drop for my Fusion.
Where can a person get all the motor torque specifications to rebuild this whole motor !!! Uggg
Great video God coverage.
Hello Aaron! I think Ford now has a new oil pan design with a gasket available now Let me go find the part # and put it on here if that is ok with you.
What’s the code
The oil pan the same as a 2018 mustang?
10r80_Nick mustangs are a 2.3 engine, not 2.7. If it’s a plastic pan it should be similar
Aaron, didn’t you have to wait 24 hrs for the oil to drain completely out of the motor? That’s what I’ve been reading on the forums.
MUST let drain for 24hrs. Wipe surfaces with cleaner to ensure NO oil on surfaces. RTV needs CLEAN surface to stick to.
My guess is the gasket remover spray is why he has no issues.
Dose the 5.0 have these problems ?
Ashraf Hameed If it’s a 2018 and newer.
did ford resolve this oil pan issue with the 2'nd gen 2.7 that was released in2018?
Apparently the new oil pans have a O-ring tape seal that helps with the leakage. However unfortunately those oil pans are not transferable to the earlier model 2.7 L
@@AaronHinesAuto total bs
Does anyone sell a metal oil pan replacement?
2wd is easy 4/4 not so much front diff needs to come out as well.
You have stated that the oil pan is less than 100.00, but I looked online and found that the oil pan is averaging 200.00 and up
This video was made 2 years ago.
You don’t have to remove the transmission cooler lines just an FYI.
Even on the 4x4 version?
Makes no sense whatsoever. If Ford just wanted to save weight, they should've put an aluminum oil pan on an aluminum engine using nothing other than anaerobic gasket maker for the seal. Unless oil pan sustains a major impact, anaerobic sealer is damn near impossible to break. In know this from personal experience because this is what my heavy duty diesel engine in my semi-truck uses, no leaks going on 1.3-million miles.
3.5 ecoboost 2017 2wd
Ford is saying there is an upper oil pan and wanting $300 for that $54 for the lower pan $55 for that rtv and yea $800 for labor
They want to charge $800 to replace mine as well 2017 Ford F150 2.7 eco 89k miles. Watching this video makes it look easy but not sure if I could do it or how long it would take
I just got charged $1300 buy ford to change mine. All a sudden they said I had a oil leak. Said it was pouring in two locations
Nice!!
Just got my truck back from the dealer for the same fix..... “new oil pan has integrated rubber gasket” 4-29-2020
Just had mine redone June 2020. No idea if they used an integrated gasket but I’ve had the truck for 3 days and it’s still leaking. Lol this will be my 5th pan replacement in 3 years
Hi what year is your truck and engine do you have? I heard they couldn’t do and rubber gasket on the echoboost engines.
I am having the same issue
They are wanting me to go through my 2nd oil pan leak in a year. For $900.00. I have read where some have had this done as much as 10 times. The average seems to be 4-5 times. Why no recall on this crap. The oil pan is plastic. WTF!!!!!! In the message below the video it says "oil pan is a very common problem with these motors". I see a class action lawsuit in the future.!!!!!!
Class ACTION Lawsuit.. Ford should wake the F Ford up since they gave up on cars...
All Ford motors ecoboost 2.7 and 3.0L turbo have the problem of the oil pan leaks. The problem is the quality of the oil pan is ERY BAD QUALTY. Ford changed the quality on the 2019 models and do nothing for the 2017??? WHY thank you Ford
Plastic oil pan is beyond stupid! This is the kind of crap that made me stop buying fords!
Full Synthetic 5w30 is overkill for these engines Ford engineered these engines to run synthetic blend from the factory even Motorcraft has further made it easier by selling Motorcraft oil 5w30 in a synthetic blend formulation.Stick to what Ford recommends they know what works best for these trucks.
You have to at least let the oil drain out over night with the pan off. It’s going to leak again
ive done over 30 of these pans. never once left the truck over night. im sure it would help. but not mandatory.
Really. I didn’t do it one time and it leaked. But noted
I'm on my 3rd pan on my 2017 f150 2.7. 16k miles. Pathetic
Holy smokes! That’s depressing
@@AaronHinesAuto well if I get 4 pans by 2022. It's a buy back
Going on my 4th one, for my 2015.... I wish ford would buy back these defective trucks. unfortunately I am stuck with the damn thing.
@@sethchiaroproductions2171 yeah its pretty sad they can't make a decent oil pan gasket. Did the same dealer repair yours everytime? Or multiple places?
@@alexmartin1430 I've been having the same dealership "fix", it. I just had it done 6 months ago. I took in for an oil change at a Firestone to do an oil change. They found the leak and was advised by management not go forward with the oil change. So it seems everytime I get an oil change I am replacing the oil pan. I wish ford would buy the truck back... its frustrating. So far it's been covered under warranty. The oil pan is supposed to last the life of the vehicle... I like the truck. That's the only issue i have had.
Not worth it. I just put a piece of cardboard on the floor. Not really leaking enough to go through all this BS.
Oops..... 2018 f150 2.7
Well. Ford just lost me. Soon to purchase, but not a Ford with plastic oil pan.
The two piece aluminum & plastic pan has been replaced with a new full aluminum version and oil pump pick up. The plastic pan will leak again despite all his efforts. Great video otherwise.
