bahar dan Actually! The manga/anime contenders for Marina del Barrio and Amigas y Rivales are Fushigi Yugi and Kaze to Ki no Uta. Seriously! There’s f*cked-up drama, crazy assholes, and rape, even dudes are not exempt from rape. And those series are marketed to girls. Not women, but girls.

This telenovela brings me back to my childhood. This series was huge hit in the Philippines, not to mention Thalia is a superstar in our country in the 90's.
@@moonrabbit2747 telenovelas were created in a time where housewifes were considered for TV not as important as men so the telenovelas budgets were really low (what they cut off? Decent writers) they weren't expected to be as important as they're now. Also they helped us latino nerds to not have censored anime in the 90s
So today I learned that Thalia's telenovelas were seen in multiple countries. Nice to know we all have something in common and shared something so close to home. 🇵🇭
I mean, now you HAVE to do Pasion de Gavilanes, Mi Gorda Bella, Betty la Fea and Juana la Virgen. Hell, those last two became American dramas (Ugly Betty and Jane the Virgin, respectively). And the first two (which I believe are Colombian) got Mexican remakes, as did Ugly Betty whose Mexican remake was on at the same time as its American one. Ugly Betty could get a whole mini-series about how hell it is to be Betty/Leti (as she's known in the Mexican remake).
I was legitimately obsessed with the whole how many international versions of YSBLF there are. I used to belong to the message board Todas las Feas where each version could be discussed and compared. There are some really fascinating cultural changes that happen from versions to version. I was sad to realize that site no longer exists.

Super funny, but details of what happened are off. Maria's love interest was an insane piece of shit who flew off the handle over any perceived slight. He verbally abused her during that entire series. I'm surprised that didn't get mentioned being that the topic was how hellish her life was. When he jilted her during her pregnancy she wandered off in a fugue state from heartbreak and gave birth. And she LEFT the baby with the sausage lady, that lady didn't steal her baby. Also, honestly, they did not even come close to capturing how fucking unhinged Soraya was. Hall of Fame tv villain.

Even cartoon network at the beginning was only in English, then, I think from 2000, they begun to dubb the shows.
@@masakanistriku6203 Nope, thank god, no dubbing. It gave me the opportunity to learn a bit of portuguese cause of O Clone :))
We have to watch them caused my grandma no excuses
OMG! This was HUGE here in Brazil during the 90's!!!! it's just a masterpiece, and Thalia is a DIVA ♥️
You guys just forgot the part when Maria loses her memory after the fire on the prison, and a hot widow doctor, along with his children, takes care of our heroine! In the meantime Luis Fernando thinks she's dead, Soraya found out where Maria, who doesn't remember anything at all, is, and kidnaps her! To be fair the two fires aren't so close, 😂😂😂😂😂
Also the nany/witch is Soraya's real mom! Tan tan TAN! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Please make a serie about mexican telenovelas! And let the next one be La Usurpadora ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Aline Lima this is hilarious
Aline Lima there is always one hot widower, isn’t there?
And they did.
Same in here in the Philippines bqck in the 90s. Kids were even copying the cat fight scenes.
In Malaysia, before the popularity of Indonesian, Filipino and Korean dramas, South American telenovelas were the bomb. Series like Catalina y Sebastian, La Usupadora, Maria Mercedes were really popular here. My personal favorite was La Usupadora.
Actually, the guy who pushed Soraya out the window didn’t have “a broken arm for unexplained reasons”. Soraya shot him twice and somehow he survived and the next day she wanted to shoot him again, but the guy still won by pushing her out of a window with one hand.
Who cares about the logistics “ unexplained reasons “ is funnier
You brought me in with Zack Morris is Trash, kept my interest with a Very Special Episode, and now you give me this gem. I'm offically hooked for life!
I watched this novela when it just came out. The 80s novelas were so good hahaba, cheese and ridiculous, but so entertaining. Now I am hooked with k-drama. Equally cheese and ridiculously entertaing lol!
ENAIRAMA1 this is a 90s
it esa the 90's. On the 80's it was the original version "Los Ricos también Lloran"
Actually Los Ricos Tambien Lloran was in the 70s :) started in 1979
MARIA te Todos Los Angeles is the best one.. honest depiction of the nation.
La Ursurpadora was the shit in the 90s. also RUBY in the 2000s was legit. All the other ones were just RACIST -TELEVISA garbage. Don't know why old ass ladies would stay up to watch that garbage....
Albert C but it lasted like 2 years
"Give me 50 dollars or I'm calling the police-"
LMAO my man just needs gas money
I'm Dominican and I was 4 when they transmitted this in my country. My mom never let me watch it nor "Cara Sucia" another telenovela. Keep doing this is hilarious lmao.
Ra Luna I loved Cara Sucia. There was a previous version in Mexico in the 80's though. It was called "La Fiera".
Your mom did right.... I started watching telenovelas and it's an addiction like smoking... trust me....
Maria La del Barrio and Thalia was very famous here, in Indonesia back in 1996. One of my favourite Novelas that ever came in the country. I still hoping that Thalia will back in Novela, someday.
She won't she said that the time is over. She has had so many offers but she always tells them no.
That scene with the girl being tossed from her wheel chair is the ABSOLUTE masterpiece of drama in the whole cinematic history, seriously go watch it now
I remember this being shown in the Philippines and the time slot is the same with rival channel’s anime series. I really wanted to watch my anime but my mother insisted on watching Thalia. Eventually we all watched the series. But this commentary is on point! Pure genius! 👍👍👍
Rey Francis Cool! What kind of Anime did you watch?
Rey Francis
I don’t think I’d let my own mother interrupt my anime time with her dramatic AF telenovelas, LoL! 🤣
Was it Pikachu?
bahar dan
Actually!
Telenovelas are my guilty pleasure.
I learned español so im not complaining (:
thegossipswan009 sameee
samee the only minus is that my spanish is sometimes a bit odd since i know words like 'embarazada' but i struggle with basic words like 'durazno'
Same and my sister too ,also portugese from brazilian telenovelas
thegossipswan009 yeah. This is a remake of "Los ricos tambien lloran" of 1982
Please make more episodes! Really enjoy these series. I grew up in the neighbourhood that obsessed with telenovelas, I’m literally laughing at my childhood watching this series!
Am I the only one who wanted her to end up with Vladimir? Like he was such a prince charming to her he was so sweet and not to mention hot and he easily accepted her.
01emercado01
True but Luis Fernando is hot.
@@alexthelizardking i'll always treasure in my heart the Luis Fernando's speedo scenes!!
@@porfiriodiazcarrillo7551 hahahahahaha
01emercado01 yes agree i like vladimir to end up with maria..hes more hansome than luis fernando:)
Yes, but that would not make for a good telenovela. The writers need to find ways to keep them separated until the end
Maria La Del Barrio inspired Norwegian death metal.
B0yardigi0rn0 wait, what?
Links!
2:32 I love how Soraya’s nanny/mother/witch screams out in what looks like agonizing pain after she’s gently pushed onto the soft comfy mattress.
The 90s were great times. The argentine narrator must have felt that era, it was gold. Now it’s easy to have a laugh about it, but that was gold back then.
Nandito is not a GINGER!! 😂😂 he has brown hair
He's also pale. That's considered a ginger in Mexico. 😉
@@DigiDestined55X not at all! Are you even a mexican living in mexico? Because I am. Nobody thinks nandito was ginger neither we see a pale person and consider them ginger. Are you mad? 😂😂 what are you talking about?😂😂😂
@@34bx
I am Mexican, but I have never been or ever was from Mexico. I just thought it was a funny comment to make at the time. Just like in the video. 😋
That Godmother didn't ask for that frog face, y'all wrong for that.
Please do Rebelde
Way
bluesailormercury they are basically the same just with diffrent actors and in different states XD
puppiesareworld12 AJPW (Sorry I'm just here to appreciate your profile pic bye)
Castiel! At The Discø baby boi beeebboooo
puppiesareworld12 AJPW that was the shittt.
Everything all works out. What a beautiful ending. 🙂
1:34 Ladies and gentlemen, here she is.
Soraya "does fucking everything in Spanish" Montenegro in all her Spanish glory.
¡Y a mucha Honra!🎤
Marcy Lynn Maria la del barrio soy! 🎤 LOL
Marcy Lynn 🤣
“Mustache made out of pubic hair” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry but I can't stop laughing about the Maldita Lisiada moment!!! All of this novelas are sooo politically incorrect
Do this for the Maria trilogy. Maria Mar and María Mercedes!
foosheezoo *Marimar
WAIT ITS A TRILOGY?
coldcocoa It’s not, actually. It just so happened that the three telenovelas begin with “Mar”
I hated that Netflix dropped this telenovela. I love it and could watch it over and over!!
Netflix did not drop it. televisa who own this novela tried launching it's very own stream service an ex they pulled out of the contract. same thing is about to happen with all the Disney production
Are you kidding?
This is my abuelitas favorite Telenovela. I can literally recite every line word for word
I just watched Maria la del Barrio in its entirety on my lunch break. Thanks Funny or Die!
"If you're gonna do incest" 😂😂 gold.
Thank you
The “Telenovela’s Are Hell” videos are so funny still 😂 Hope you will make new ones someday!
Hahahaha I want you to know that at late 90s early 2000 every kid in Greece was watching Maria la del barrio and all the other Thalias' tv shows and many many others. Hahaha those days.
Όλα τα παιδιά βλέπαμε μεξικανικες σαπουνόπερες ξανά και ξανά και σε επανάληψη. Γτ μας άφηναν να τα βλέπουμε όλα αυτά Θεέ μου?
Oh boy I can't believe this ratchet telenovela was aired in Greece 😱
@@xcesarbautistax same in Poland :D
In Indonesia too lol
macayo Greece? They were popular in France, where tv series are dramatic on another level altogether and nudity is pushed to such a limit, one would think that French people would have no demand for imported dramas.
in Brazil they were also all the rage in the 90s
This telenovela brings me back to my childhood. This series was huge hit in the Philippines, not to mention Thalia is a superstar in our country in the 90's.
Watching mexican telèNOwVeyla made me realize they all have patterns:
1. A hot pretty protagonist but dumb and poor af
2. Gets a revenge
Adi Adi The revenge plot always sucks. They don’t even do it well.
It is not meant to be quality TV, it's just to numb people out of their sad lives... Telenovelas ARE hell.
A baby is born in the middle, either illegitimate lost or something else, they all end in a wedding.
CAR CRASHES!
WhiteRaven696 mi gorda bella is Venezuelan from RCTV
How about LaLola? That one is weird.
I was legitimately obsessed with the whole how many international versions of YSBLF there are. I used to belong to the message board Todas las Feas where each version could be discussed and compared. There are some really fascinating cultural changes that happen from versions to version. I was sad to realize that site no longer exists.
I want to see them all!
Jane the virgin has been a disappointment, so I'll give the original a try.
The fact that i'm watching this with a soraya montenegro shirt is absolutely gold
holy shizz i watch this series religiously when i was a kid
I lost it at "flat ironed pubic hair" 😂😂😂 OMG!
Hahahahahahah it was my favourite telenovela... whole Greece was watching Mexican telenovelas at 90s!!! I forgot how exaggerated it was and I watched it recently as well on TH-cam hahah! By the way, your video with all these sound effects made me cry hahahaha really funny
PLEASE DO THIS WITH LA USURPADORA
yaaaaass
They did. Haha
Thk you! I just watched and loved it!
This is to damn good lol I hope you do the rest of the telenovelas! I grew up watching all of these ohhh the memories!
This .... THIS was the first telenovela I ever saw and I loved it ... and still do
I swear all of Indian soap operas follows this exact plot
All telenovelas in the universe do that
But we don’t smell
Super funny, but details of what happened are off. Maria's love interest was an insane piece of shit who flew off the handle over any perceived slight. He verbally abused her during that entire series. I'm surprised that didn't get mentioned being that the topic was how hellish her life was. When he jilted her during her pregnancy she wandered off in a fugue state from heartbreak and gave birth. And she LEFT the baby with the sausage lady, that lady didn't steal her baby. Also, honestly, they did not even come close to capturing how fucking unhinged Soraya was. Hall of Fame tv villain.
Valerie Hunt Soraya killed, cheated, lied, abused one innocent life after another. Hell, did she not sleep with Maria’s son?
Who ever does the commentary is amazing and a freggin genius!!
As a Mexican I can confirm
QUE HACES BESANDO A LA LISIAAADA!!!
ES MI NANDITOOOOOOOOOOOO
😂😂😂😂
I spent so many years following this telenovela. Hahaha i got hooked
This telenovela have fans in south América my mother and aunts love it
Questão olavo sad
The biggest telenovela in The Philippines, Thalia became a superstar bigger than anyone from hollywood in our country, she even released an album in our language, and if you think oh shes huge in the philippines okay, NO!!! Huge is an understatement, when she visit she was like a pope, extremely huge of people shows up like QUEEN (freddie mercury) who?
Philippines too. They even did a remake
Yup, marimar and maria del barrio
