Great question. I just watched the interview after reading your comment. They have a long rivalry, with Alex beating Shane in a challenge match race to 100 in 2008. So I would guess he has alot of respect for Alex and likes a good challenge.
Great answer and as you can read in the comments, Alex plays so slow compared to Shane that I would think that alone is the reason not to play him. Thanks.
One question here folks: At 2:05:50 SVB does a foul by scratching the break. According to the rules Alex should have ball-in-hand behind the head string, but the referee is not considering the head string, Alex goes from the middle of the table. Why is that? Thanks!
Tournaments use them because using the thick duroplastic racks sometimes causes the balls to shift by a few millimeters when you try and remove it. When that happens the person who breaks will make more balls off the shot. The league decided that using thin acetate racks reduces the chance of ball shifting to make it fair all round for each player when they break. I agree that it works much better than duroplastic.
PS the solution is VIDEO EDITING. Let them stand around and think as much as they want to, but judicious video editing would make the matches HUGELY better as spectator sports.
Alex really stuck it in his ass at the end there. I was surprised by that. I still love Alex, but was surprised by it. Nobody wants to lose a hill hill match because they scratched on the break, ya know?...
And alex should try and shoot the god damn ball when its presented as a gift. I've played pool for thirty years and played in various leagues winning a few of them. But I have to agree with the audience, he uses too much time to shoot. Looking at the table myself I know exactly what ball to go for and how to set up for the next one, but his constant staring at the table was causing some dismay even with the audience who was there watching it. I'm sure some of them even got their social security checks waiting for him to take a shot. Overthinking a game can cost a match, and he almost lost the final because of his over thinking along with Boening. Both of them shouldn't have had to waste nearly three hours for ten frames. The most a final tournament should last with ten frames is about an hour and twenty minutes. But because of the No Shot clock policy they took advantage of that and I wasted my time watching it. I aged several years because of it. I lost some hair. And now I have to go a get some rogain, and some just for men hair solution to get rid of the grey. Plus some depends, and extra strength laxative. You see what I mean? Snooker players don't even take that long unless its in the very last final frames which are 35 frames, which can sometimes last four hours. Ronnie O'sullivan who is a snooker player made the world record book for shooting a perfect 147 in five minutes and six seconds. And that is on a six by twelve table. The difference is, is that no snooker player has taken more then a minute or two to contemplate a simple shot.
@@blackmamba99971 Totally agree. Alex is not as professional and skilled as Shane. He got lucky in the last frame, but the slow pace he plays even for obvious shots is not a fair play.
Love these commentators, much more interesting than the most I’ve heard. Taking bets on which ball and the general banter. Made the crazy long waits interesting and do these tourney’s not have some sort of shot clock? What better player? Alex? They weren't even playing the same game. He played terrible taking ages to shoot one single ball and then come up short, or long... He rarely hit anything as he wanted it...
alex is a great player he is just the better player in this one, shane always has a tough match when he face alex and about alex taking a lot of time to shoot well i think its part of his strategy good play.
princekody it's not a strategy. He just can't figure out what to do next. Shane is by far and away the better player, if you have watched the video you know, he just had bad luck at the and, be he deserved it a lot better.

In the hill hill match, SVB scratched on the break and Alex placed the cue ball above the head string. I haven’t seen this before in a professional match. Is this a rule for this tournament? I’ve always seen the cue ball placed behind the head string and the shot taken towards balls above the head string.
seriously you can see the narrative go from talking shit about him to saying that he "stepped up to Shane's level". Like he isn't one of the greatest in the world to ever do it.
Hello, can someone explain why, after the opening foul in the last round, the cue ball wasn't placed behind the head string and the shot was not directed outward the head string? All of the rules I could find and played along say that if the cue ball is potted during the break, the opponent has a ball in hand, but he has to place it within head string and shoot up the table. Thanks in advance.
That’s an option but why would anyone play like that? You can just foul on purpose to put opponent in bad position. Ball in hand seems to be preferred.

He won the match by putting SVB to sleep.
no, he won deserved. didn't break rules, and didnt play dirty too (like continually coughing while the opponent plays)
i want to watch, half a million people watched this video in much less than a year. next time use a cloak watch then? the game would have had a cloak if either player requested, but they didn't.
DUDE!!!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!!!
@@shiftjacket Wtf are y talking about?Spoiler alert when you come down the comments before watching the video
Shangerous Domination's devoured by the Pixie Lion. Masterful position truly two of the best. Bravo com.
If boening have not unlucky roll, he should be double champ. Great play tho
Dinnye nah alex is a filipino and like many other filipinos this guys r great in pool alex aint a chump he beat shane already in the past and ive seen alex play fast pool he dont always play like this just admit buddy shane got outplayed alex mindfuck him lol.
In the hill hill match, SVB scratched on the break and Alex placed the cue ball above the head string. I haven’t seen this before in a professional match. Is this a rule for this tournament? I’ve always seen the cue ball placed behind the head string and the shot taken towards balls above the head string.
I liked the table I hate bar tables..
What a match. I haven't played in leagues in ages.
No wonder pool is not a tv sport. 2h of thinking, 15.min of shooting.
u are american, arent u? classic
50:00 why SVB took his turn? I thought Alex made his ball (solid light blue) to the pocket. I wonder
I see, thanks dude
I was wondering the same thing? What happened there?
Those commentators talked so much shit about Alex and down played his ability and skill im glad he came back and won
seriously you can see the narrative go from talking shit about him to saying that he "stepped up to Shane's level".
Me too wtf, been playing official WPA rules for 10 years and that one stump me. Was the whole match illegal ?
That’s an option but why would anyone play like that? You can just foul on purpose to put opponent in bad position. Ball in hand seems to be preferred.
@@danielvelkovski3156 that wouldn't make sense. There would be no advantage to purposely fouling on the break.
Trophy only? No cash prize?
doubt very much
It is so cool to watch the best in the world negotiate these racks. Wow!
UP SPEED 1.25 or 1.5 thank me later
Thank you
