The reason why Alphonse (the armor guy) is so often drawn like you descrive is for comedic effects adapted from the manga, arakawa has a special sense of humor with how cartoony the gags can be (like soul leaving body, exagerated proportions, faces, etc) it's impressive how well adapted the jokes got
I'm going to enjoy this reaction series so much.

I'd call it exactly what it is: A trade. A fragile, decaying LIVING body, for a strong, immortal husk of a body. There are pros and cons to each, and you can prefer one or the other depending on personal preference - any "improvements" are subjective. But, at the end of the day, it was an equivalent exchange, regardless of opinion.
He said he's going to need at least a full episode of that being miserable to convince him. Just let him have his wish...

One critique people give to Brotherhood is that it's not as friendly to newcomers as the manga, or the first Fullmetal alchemist. Since it jumps right into the action and throws out words and plot points as if the viewer is supposed to know them already. I watched Brotherhood after having read the manga and seen a lot of the first FMA, so I never realized it, but I think it's a valid point that Brotherhood is more enjoyable for fans of FMA at the beginning. It does get better about the abovementioned critiques later on
One could argue the best way to watch is to do the start of FMA first, and then switch over to FMA:B once the plot diverges. Because tbh, the first few episodes of FMA:B are pretty rushed and the more extended version of the same events in the first anime do some events more justice (specifically Rose and Nina).
I watched the first episode when it premiered on Toonami, and I remember hating it for this reason. This was only compounded by JesuOtaku's rants against the series (the 2003 show was famously his favorite anime of all time) which didn't make me want to go back.
Well I mean it's bc the remake only happened 3 years after the first anime adaptation. So it's more of a love letter to the 03 version (since brotherhood came out in 09)
The first 8 episodes of FMAB could be considered a quick recap of what happened during FMA ‘03 first 20-ish episodes before it diverged into the “‘03 storyline” (some of ‘03 episodes are filler or not included in the FMAB storyline). This was because FMA ‘03 had catch upped to the manga that was still being developed and Studio Bones decided to continue the production with their own storyline.

Personally I never had that problem and actually felt really pleasantly surprised the show trusted the viewers enough to recieve info and hold on to it so it can all be explained in time. Most anime tend to toss you the setting, basic backstory and then main goal all at once early on to get them out of the way and focus on the story from there on which I obviously don't mind either, some of my faves fall into that but idk.
It felt fresh and it absolutely helped that the aforementioned traits ARE the story not just set up to get to it yk? FMA:B operates under the agreement that you'll let the story explain itself while intiguing you by starting you off at the midway start of the conflict. Sorry this was long I find the topic fun to explain😭

I am pretty sure that's an act. I don't know as I still haven't completed brotherhood. But the fall of ishvala suggests Armstrong is the exact opposite of hyped to exist.
I think it's a bit of both. He's a kind heart who loves people, and he turns it up to cover his guilt for Ishaval

Hiromu Arakawa is probably one of the most amazing mangaka to have original character designs. She draws her European like characters with European features, Asian liek characters with Asian features, brown characters with brown features. And her styles are so distinct.
Most of his concerns and requests about the series just turn into one big "careful what you wish for" and I love it, lol
OH MY GOD ITS FINALLY TIME!!! The jokes? Hilarious. The reactions? Phenomenal. The horror at Ed and Al’s mother’s reanimated zombie corpse? Perfection. Hotel? Trivago. 🤣 But seriously I can’t wait to see what you think of the episodes going forward, this show only gets better and better!

This anime jumps from humor to absolute horror in like a couple minutes its honestly amazing. There are still many more horrors to come, but also good things too, its incredibly impressive. This anime can have themes like genocide and human experimentation but also have a lot of humor and sweet moments.
The samurai busting a uwu on the battlefield joke caught me so off guard and literally made me laugh out loud
God I didn’t even realize just how much I needed Danny to react to this show. I love anyone reacting to it but I didn’t know I needed his brand of comedy combined with this show. I cannot WAIT to see him realize just how deep this show goes
I also love how he’s accidentally predicting stuff as he makes jokes. This is also the exact same way I reacted to FMAB when I watched it for the first time.

I can't think of the channel at the moment, but these two women (I'm not sure where they're from but their accents sound Serbian-esque to me) reacted to FMAB and it's so good.

So Brotherhood starts off a little fast bc it's assumed that the audience knows the first part of the story since it's a remake. The pacing definitely gets better a few episodes in as the story changes more to the manga. So glad you're watching this! FMA is a lot of people's fav (mine included) ❤

Edit: I refuse to watch FMA again for any reason as I can't re-experience the devastating plot twists. A character death happens in the middle of their arc. not at the end. The fucking middle. That was something my teenage brain was blown at.
Watching you trying to understand Ed makes me feel happy because as the story progresses you'll understand Ed'd character even more!!!! He's so cool and awesome!
Note: 'Brotherhood' REALLY speed-runs the first part of the manga, bc they kind of assumed most fans would have seen the first anime (which had to make up an ending bc the manga wasn't anywhere close to done). But it doesn't CONTINUE at this mad pace forever.

FMAB has and always will be one of my favorite shows٫ my older brother had me and my sister watching it when we were like 4 and 6 years old. It absolutely horrified me when I was little and I loved it. Still kinda gives me nightmares and it's still amazing. You have no idea what you're in for Danny٫ and I'm so very excited to see you react to my childhood.

If you're getting the vibe that it's rushed, it's because the original FMA anime from 2003 technically followed canon properly until 20-some episodes in. So Brotherhood presumes the viewer to have already seen that and then went on a speedrun with it for the reboot

That was hilarious! Usually FMA:B reactions are more somber, but you delivered funny jokes pretty consistently. Just a warning, some fans can be annoying to reactors that bring humor to the show. I guess they assume that just because you're making jokes that means you think the show is a joke... Just don't let them get you down. Watching a reaction should be wanting to see another's point of view, but for some they have more of a checklist of how people are supposed to respond. Anyway, I loved it and am subscribing. Hope you enjoy watching!

You probally noticed the second episode is more of the starting point, episode one was more of a 'look at all these characters you know and love'
Keep in mind that FMAB came out only a few years after FMA concluded and FMA was popular, so FMAB skimmed the first few episodes under the assumption that people had already seen FMA, what took FMA about 30 episodes was done in under half that in FMAB, so by 15 you'll be caught up to where the split in the stories occur and the pacing will even back out
I can't believe you nailed the milk joke. Also Best jokes "he looks like me", "who cares about the country", "if you like what you're seeing here" -instant blur-
The original Fullmetal Alchemist has a much more new watcher friendly intro, and I much prefer the way it reveals some things like Ed's metal arm and let and Al's lack of all things body, but the remake gives you enough details to work with as it dives in.
Honestly one of the reasons I love this show is because of how it hides the exposition like mom hiding medicine in your applesause. It throws you in as if you already know what's going on I'm the middle of this starting conflict and by the end you're right there along with the characters understanding just as much as them, and not once did it pull away to explicitly say "hey this is how the thing works." It's masterful!!

FMA Brotherhood may seem fast at first because it's getting through what first anime adaptation covered quickly, but you should be able to understand it.

Happy bday, but this isn't reacting. It's tearing an anime apart by trying to be funny.
I remember when brotherhood came out and it made me flinch away from it the way it started off. I already knew this was how the manga started off but it's paced well there by comparison to Brotherhood. In the original FMA they added and rearranged the beginning episodes to pace it a certain way. They are complete opposites of this pacing. Brotherhood already is aware that the show was for veterans yet they had to attempt to make it for a new set of eyes, but it gets your attention and highlights the important cool parts of FMA. The OGs first episodes weren't T for T as the manga and the pacing felt slow with fillers, but the way they arranged everything even the filler episodes had purpose; from the world building, relationship dynamics/developments, and strung a convincing pay off by the time when they got to certain important arcs in the manga. The pacing for it sometimes even helped emphasize the atmosphere of an episode. While I'm a little biased with the OG I do think it's a better idea to watch Brotherhood but with strung in certain episodes of the OG up until a certain point of each show respectfully.

But a lot of the series have either been weekly seasonal anime that are out now or more non-mainline shonen anime like Sk8 the Infinity, Beastars, and stuff like that.
So to see him go to like top tier, full length, shonen anime that’s widely considered one of the best ever? I’m really excited to see. also don’t see many people watching and reacting to FMAB these days

I've always liked how you did reactions. You don't show the entire thing, but you show enough that the audience can still follow what's going on in the show instead of just staring at a random guy for 30 minutes with only the light background noise of the show in the background.
Also, your comedy is on point, so that's a bonus.

You joke but fullmetal alchemist literally is an "anime fan license" 😂 if you ask around for anime recommendations half the people you ask will say fullmetal alchemist and anime fans rarely agree on ANYTHING
yeah it's an anime that might not be #1 for everybody but is definitely solid when it comes to plot, characters, and animation, so it's easy to recommend to someone
And it is easier to digest by foreigners because it is not set in Japan and inspired by steam/renaissance era and holocaust most people who took history classes are familiar about.
Also did not make use of anime “tropes” too much.. you know.. like all the -dere stuff and pervert-dumb-good-for-nothing harem protagonist.
Omg I am so excited for this reaction series!! FMAB is what got me back into anime after college and it's my absolute favorite. I can't wait to see Danny's take on this masterpiece!

Welcome to _Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood!_ Not to rain on your parade, but I do recommend folks start with the original _Fullmetal Alchemist_ anime, *then* try either the manga or FMAB. Need to get around to reading the manga myself so I can actually back up my opinion a bit better. I did start with FMA, and even knowing it has its own ending that significantly differs from the manga or FMAB, I still think it was a good story worth watching. I also think FMAB kinda rushes through most of the story that FMA covered. It isn't like skipping Dragon Ball and going directly to Dragon Ball Z, or watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but skipping Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency to go directly to Stardust Crusaders, but I still think something is lost when one jumps directly to FMAB.
Not that anyone asked me. XD

OMG FINALLY THE FMAB REACTION IS HERE!!! Honestly though it's been four years since I saw this anime and it gave me literal nightmares, and watching this made me remember why. (Spoilers) The original fma is, in my opinion, even more disturbing and sad. At least in brotherhood almost everyone gets a happy ending, but in the original it's way more depressing.

Its a really understated detail but whenever you see different people make structures with Alchemy, you'll always see their own little details in how their personalities effect how they make them. Ed will make weapons that look cool to him or he'll have these silly details like his face pop up that conveys his personality as a mischievous but self-serious teenager really well. Al's alchemy as someone thats a bit more of a introverted bookworm evokes the aesthetic of european fairytales.
You should watch Violet Evergarden sometimes. I watched it 3 months ago and havent stoped crying ever since!

Don't get me wrong.. I am fine with huge age gap between lovers. I just don't like it when the older one is the parent figure. Most of the times I don't like how the anime industry don't get how realistic healthy relationships work. Two people with dependency issues is not a good thing.
Violet instead of learning how to move on for a loss of loved one instead now still obsessed with her commander (owner, she's like a pet kitten with separation anxiety) till the end. Gilbert still feels guilt regarding everything.. makes me question if it is really “love” they feel for one another or just they feel they “fill” one another's “need”. One needs an owner, and the other is redemption.

the slits in Alphonse's helmet are for ventilation. It allows air to come in and out so you don't suffocate and also the inside of the helmet doesn't get so hot.
