Unlike AOT 1st and 2nd season , or HxH Greed Island or Election Arc. I just prefer FMAB imo because of it's consistency on it's episodez

Was a great change/addition imo.

  • @knackis2116

Just rewatched FMA (2003) and it actually holds a lot of merit, despite some plot weirdness. The soundtrack is so mesmerizing, the animation is actually quite decent and the bond between the brothers ironically comes across as having greater depth than in Brotherhood. I really prefer elements of Roy's backstory and Scar's softer character, too. If only Shamballa didn't end the way it does, I'd say it was a pretty solid, albeit slightly messy, interpretation overall.

    • @LunaLongbottomLove
      @LunaLongbottomLove ปีที่แล้ว +10

It honestly makes me so frustrated when people (it's not everybody of course! But a pretty vocal subsection in my experience) say "Oh FMA 2003 is complete shit, Brotherhood is the only good adaptation!" When that's just not true at all??? BOTH of them have their pros and cons
Is Brotherhood closer to the manga? Obviously. Does it have a better emding? Yes I would say so. There are a ton of things that Brotherhood does super well in comparison to the 2003 adaptation
But those first 13 episodes really do fall extremely flat compared to the corresponding episodes of the 2003 series
And of course I COMPLETELY understand why they decided to rush through them to get to new material, but that doesn't change the fact that those episodes really read as what they are - a recap. Taking their time with those parts of the story as they did in the 2003 series really made for a more satisfying set of episodes (in my opinion of course)
Now from the point they diverge I do prefer Brotherhood's plot more, but I certainly don't think the second half of FMA 2003 is awful, when I first watched it I fully enjoyed the series, I just enjoy Brotherhood (from episode 14 on) more after having seen both 🤷
But even though I love Brotherhood overall I feel like someone watching it without having seen the 2003 series is really missing out
The first time I tried to watch it I didn't even make it past the recap episodes because I was so disappointed in how they didn't stack up to the 2003 version, and that's as someone who already loved FMA, I feel like a new fan who's never seen the 2003 series might get thrown off by those first episodes which don't really put the best foot forward compared to the rest of the show
Tl;Dr: I think BOTH the 2003 series and Brotherhood are essential viewing
And if you really hate the second half of the 2003 series you can always just watch the first half of it and then switch to Brotherhood 🤷 Frankenstein 'em together ya know? Lol

I kinda like the end of Shamballa, when you watch the 'Kids' OVA.
I know it's an open ending, but it works for the story they were telling. The idea that the brothers lived the rest of their lives in our worlds, seems fitting for the whole 2nd world war/hydrogen bomb plot point.

    • @DiestroCorleone
      @DiestroCorleone 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@lexywackess EXACTLY. I think Hughes' arc suffers greatly in Brotherhood. I knew exactly what would happen, but it dind't hit me like it did in the 2003 version. The time we spend getting to know him and his family, his relationships, greatly benefits from the extra time FMA 2003 gives it.
Plus, the older anime doesn't spoil the Bradley twist in the first episode xD

I literally just finished watching this series again. And every time I watch it I am just blown away by how *amazing* this show is. Especially the ending. With as few spoilers as possible, it's so common for anime (especially Shonen) to end anticlimacticly, or to go completely off the rails, especially with the actual final battle. But FMA:B stays true to itself the whole time. The themes of family (both by blood and found family), what it means to be human, and understanding the value of human life all come to a head in the end, to the point where instead of the final battle being a massive clash of people throwing around magic powers, it instead is an emotional street level fist fight that I garuntee will have you shouting "*Fuck him up!*"
And the irony at the core of all 7 homunculi is so damn rich to me. I have never seen a story display the 7 deadly sins in a more interesting way, even down to explaining how they may be deadly sins, but they are also absolutely necessary to human life. For instance, greed isn't just wanting everything for yourself or hoarding wealth. Greed is also the desire to surround yourself with those you love, the desire to have everything you need to provide for yourself AND those who are important to you. Greed is even the desire to protect everyone you meet. Greed is a deadly sin, but without it, you become less human.
Hell, I won't say it here, but while others may say that sloth is one of the more boring of the 7 homunculi, I find him absolutely fascinating through what he represents. Never before have I seen the idea of sloth represented this way, but the moment we got to know him, I was nodding along because of how much sense it made that the sin of sloth was represented this way.

And then there is Hohenheim. He deserves his own series explaining why he’s such a good character.
Edit: after a year of writing this comment, it has struck up quite a debate. One of the main reasons I believe Hohenheim to be such a good character is because of the contrast between him and Father. Father, or rather, The Drawf in the Flask, conveys most of the deadly sins at some point in the show: he was glutton for the souls of humans, he was greedy for power, he showed wrath, especially when meeting the Truth, his pride caused him to believe he was better than everyone, he envied humans, and his sloth caused him to rely on minions. Hohenheim is the complete opposite though, as he conveys every good virtue throughout the show: he showed chastity and remained loyal to his wife, he was charitable to the people of Liore, as well as Izumi, he was a diligent worker whilst he was reconstructing Liore, he never turned to drink, he was patient with people, he was kind to everyone he met, and although he was the most powerful man alive, he was humble. But there was one scene where he does convey wrath, and that was when Father mocks Edward and Alphonse.

I'd like to touch on the music. This show has some of the tightest and catchiest OPs in existence (with some good EDs to boot). I just finished it for the first time a few weeks ago and the 4th OP "Period" is STILL lodged deep in my head; so much so that I pull it up on TH-cam whenever I need to go somewhere nearby.
The background music on the other hand can become repetitive at times, especially one piece in particular that I don't know the name of (it comes on during kinda tense scenes, but is also sometimes completely unnecessary).
And of course I LOVE all the strong female characters in this show! You GOTTA be tough as nails to be an Amestris girl. From Winry to Izumi, from Riza to Olivier, you just can't beat these babes.

I completely agree with the Openings and Endings, there isn't a single one that I even slightly dislike.
But... when it comes to the soundtrack within the episodes... they're a bit flat, or at least compared to the original adaptation's *awe inspiring* musical composition.
Though, the CG in "Mellisa" and the Opening "Ready Steady Go" are both things that I can safely say I do not like who it comes to FMA03.
But "Brat'ja" the Russian theme for the brothers themselves, makes up for these tenfold.
I'd give my soul to see a perfect third remake that incorporates the best of both worlds, there's really no way to compare them as a whole so I still have to settle for trying desperately to pick a favorite based on a tally of which one is better in it's specifics... :~:

god I love this anime so much, it really is one of the best written stories I've ever seen, honestly. almost every aspect of this show I adore. I'm on my 4th rewatch and I'm really starting to appreciate the worldbuilding. the fmab universe actually feels like it could exist in real life. countries with different ideologies, religions, and cultures, wars and alliances, people from multiple different backgrounds and not just white (although it's indeed predominantly white, because it mainly takes place in a very european inspired area. but chinese and middle eastern inspired characters play extremly prominent roles). there's historical events, both ancient and recent. politics, corruption, uprisings, complicated relationships. so very similar to our own world, it's so fleshed out and is one of the most realistic anime I've seen despite it being a fantasy story with "magic". alchemy, while it can't actually happen, feels very scientific and plausible. it just sounds like advanced chemistry with a few creative liberties taken
also, while it primarily takes place in amestris, we occasionally find out a bit about other countries and it gives the sense that alongside ed and als story there are other people from other countries living their lives in the background
it just feels so tangible and I adore it, I can't remember any other anime that feel this real. also not to mention the characters are multidimensional. characters like scar, greed, ed and al, roy, hoenheim, and even wrath and envy are morally grey and not painted as purely evil or purely good. even the main characters, although they were children, did a fucked up thing and they pay for it. despite everything we know about homunculi, greed deviates from his father's path. a being created to serve his father, and all of his siblings do so very faithfully, greed shows us they do indeed have a mind of their own. they have done a lot of bad things, but when I see envy crying on the floor in their true form I can't help but pity the homunculi, as they are beings why didn't choose to be this way. they are quite literally hardwired to be greedy, envious, gluttonous, ect. also, dwarf in the flask is their father, their guidance once they were brought into existence. every child follows after their parents as a child, I can't help but think they're just doing the same, especially since they aren't ever expected to gain independence, unlike human children, they were raised as pawns so they act like it

I watched FMA and FMAB about 2 years ago and it changed my love for anime, I was always a fan of kid anime’s like Pokémon and beyblade but this brought me to a whole knew plate. I love this show in and out and rewatch it every once and a while, honestly it’s as there will never be another anime like it but I’m still happy it was made.

Hey all. I have been watching FMA:B with my grandmother, and she is loving it. She also loves Death Note, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop which I have also shown her. While watching FMA:B she asked me who I thought would make a good hypothetical live action cast. We talked about it for awhile before I had to head home for the night, but here are some ones we came up with. Just a fun thing with my awesome grandma that I thought I'd share with all of you. If you have your own suggestions, or other cool stories of sharing your favorite anime with people you love, feel free to reply.
    Tom Selleck/Josh Brolin/Charles Dance - Fuhrer Bradley
    Conoleth Hill - Gluttony
    Adrien Brody - Shou Tucker
    Daniel Craig - Roy Mustang
    Brian Cranston - Van Hoenheim/Father
Hafpor Julius Bjornsson - Sig Curtis, Sloth, or MAJOR ALEX LOUIS ARMSTRONG
Jet Li/Chow Yun Fat/Jackie Chan - Old Man Fu
    Ellen Page - Maria Ross
    David Tennant/Jason Isaacs - Solf J. Kimblee
Ryan Reynolds/Ryan Gosling - Jean Havoc
    Jason Momoa - Captain Buccaneer
    Bob Balaban/Bill Murray/Steve Buscemi - General Grumman
    Lucy Liu - Izumi Curtis
Charlize Theron/Scarlett Johansson - Riza Hawkeye, or Olivier Armstrong
    Cliff Curtis - Miles
Luke Wilson/Rob Riggle - Maes Hughes
Corey Taylor - Greed (A personal choice for me, as with his attitude, and attitude towards greed as discussed in his book "Seven Deadly Sins" he's already half way there.)
    Christopher Judge - Jerso
    Paul Dano - Denny Brosch
    Ralph Fiennes - Yoki
Rory McCann - Heinkel, or Zanpano
Betty White/Diana Rigg - Pinako Rockbell
    Richard Griffiths - Father Cornello
You've probably noticed I've left out some VERY important characters. For Ed, Al, Pride, and Winry it is because I am not the most familiar with teen and child actors, and I also have a hard time visualizing the range from elementary school age, to twenty-something that likely several actors would have to cover.
For Scar, I am not the most familiar with Middle-Eastern or Indian cinema, and don't know much of their action heroes.
For Ling, Lan Fan, and May, it is kind of a combination of the two. I don't know enough about young Asian teen action stars to give a valid opinion on who would make good actors for them.
I feel as though Envy would be the hardest to cast out of the entire show.
Constructive criticism, alterations, and additions are welcome. Please be gentle. Again, this was just something that me and my grandma talked about for fun, and I thought it might be fun to share with fellow fans.

@@megablueflash1816 Thanks! She introduced me to some of my favorite movies (Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, Goodfellas, There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men) when I was in high school, so I figured I'd return the favor by showing her Game of Thrones, and some of my favorite anime. She's an English major, so I think she just really appreciates a good story regardless of the form it comes in.

I'm a pretty casual anime fan. Only have a handful that I really love. That being said Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the best show I've ever watched. That includes live action shows. Ive never seen an anime that really had characters that had such real and believable emotion the way these characters do. Its serious moments hit deep and it still finds room for hilariously goofy humor in between. And there are so many topics in this show that will always be relevant to anyone. The impact of war and the soldiers that live with what they were ordered to do. People trying to overcome racial tensions. Government corruption. And every character is amazing in their own way. Even the most insignificant character is good and you wouldn't mind seeing more of them.

It was a great story and a great show. Couldn’t agree more, wish they had done the backstories again just for those who didn’t know the story, but even without that it’s not hard to follow and I’m so glad they did this and finished the real story instead of that garbage where Ed wakes up in our world like the first anime.

I admit that when I watch Brotherhood my head canon fills in some of the gaps left in those first 13 episodes with what I watched from the original anime release which smooths over that transition into the later episodes, it helps a LOT

I've had a thing were if I see smooth animation (more frames, or they're pieced together that make it a more realistic movement) I have to rewind and watch it for like, 10 times. FMA and Brotherhood had me rewinding so many times because they did such a great job. I was impressed with just the little movements they did, let alone everything else the did right in it.
