IMPORTANT: Problems and Uninstalling Hi all, there was one commenter who was particualrly enthusiastic about disliking this program, I'd like to address problems and uninstall. Remember to click "Stop" on the program after you close out of the sim. Close the sim, click "Stop", then close the program (and make sure it's not still running in your system tray if you have "minimize to system tray" enabled, as I do in the video). I think a lot of people who have issues run the program, don't stop it before closing, then uninstall it. Remember to stop it when you're done using it and definitely before you uninstall it. Here are the uninstall instructions, with a bit of clarification from me: 1. To uninstall the program, go to "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows and uninstall it. 2. Delete the following folder manually (if it exists): C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\MSFS2020 Map Enhancement 3. Then go to this folder: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc In the folder, open the "hosts" file in Notepad and delete the following lines (if they are there): 127.0.0.1 t0.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 t1.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 t2.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 t3.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net Save the hosts file and close Notepad. You should now be good to go. That will completely and totally uninstall the program and remove all traces.
You should also eliminate access for Core. Uninstalling it does not remove Core access. I had to do it manually when removing it. I have since reinstalled the program.
@@alistairknott6075If I remember correctly, it should be the permission in your firewall network settings. I had done everything Island Sim Pilot suggested but checked my firewall setting and Core still had permission to pass through my firewall so I had to remove it. The uninstall program function did not remove access.
Great video! I did a loading test with the cache setting enabled because I use MSFS to practice VFR flight routes that I fly IRL with my local flying club that I'm a member of just north of Toronto. I have two PCIe v4.0 NVMe 2TB drives installed alongside two standard 2TB SSD's (all are Samsung) I have MSFS installed on one of my NVMe drives and the cache.db file for the Map Enhancement App on the other. I noticed a big difference when I did this in terms of loading times, your mileage may vary. Keep up the great work, love watching your very informative video's!
I'm loving this mod. I highly recommend everyone use it. I don't mean to push my channel (because I don't really use it too much), but I made a before/after video over a month ago to show off this mod in case anyone wants to see the difference. @IslandSimPilot, feel free to delete this comment if I'm stepping out of line. I have a love hate relationship with this program… When it’s working properly and able to download the LOD satellite imagery (Bing Maps) quickly the results are nothing short of amazing. However if for whatever reason the servers aren’t communicating properly it’s basically unusable and you’ll be getting bandwidth errors and kicked into offline mode. Since upgrading to the latest version and rectifying the permission and anti virus issues it’s much better but has its moments. Running a high end pc with a fast internet connection. Using 70gb of cache. Again great video! My go to channel for MSFS!
One suggestion, try a VPN. That will actually help with connection issues. Do you use Bing maps or Google? I honestly think Bing are better, and I have yet to have any connection issue with them (probably because of the Azure servers from MS).
Been using this for a few months and it's exceptional. Never had an issue with it. Have to agree about the brightness, wayyyy too bright but setting it to -15 works spot on 👏 I turn the cache off and also off in Msfs, both made zero difference for me!
Thank you for that update I had downloaded the new vertion when it came out and had trouble had to delete everything but after seeing your vid I got it back and working great. Thank you again
Thanks for reminding me to reload this program a couple weeks back after some PC upgrades. Best thing about this program is the ground textures actually looks so much more realistic compared to normal maps downloaded via MSFS2020; the difference is quite large after comparing many areas around the world over the past couple weeks. Especially farm country; the default maps via the game itself actually look like they cut many corners in the detail department and kit-bashed generic pre-rendered ground textures in their place making the terrain look fake in many places. Not using hi-res data even looks just fine for me, because hi-res does cause a stutter or two plus many fails since my best download speed is only 24meg way out in the country.
Love the free version, use it every flight. Absolutely no way I would ever pay an annual fee for something like this. This is a one time $9.99 app, at best, imo.
I do not know where my concern went I wrote yesterday but here you address just what I requested. AFTER using the mod and using the Google Map on it, the midwest is PERFECT. I got the color down so correct its hard to tell its not a photo. THEEENNN the virus stuff. So I will continue this video later and reinstall. Thanks,
When it comes to what choice of maps you should use, I think it depends on which area you are flying in. I have found that in the UK, and many parts of Europe, that Google maps is far better than Bing, but I think that Bing is better if your flying in the US.
Hi, update 8.04 has caused me issues. In case get same symptoms of "Your bandwidth is too low for data streaming, you have been switched to offline mode" error message" , the reason is MSFS2020 is unable to connect to Bing maps quick enough so assumes a delay due to connection issue/speed which I knew was ok. When I checked the message with Microsoft, it talks about Bing maps "host" file hence I suspected the addon to provide updated Bing maps. This seems to amend the host file and possibly because I didn't "stop" it before closing down, caused the file to be corrupt. I replaced the host file in windows/system32/drivers/etc with default and all perfect again. I have uninstalled the addon until I understand its behaviour or whether my process to update from 7.6.2 was wrong. I also remember closing down before "stopping" it and wonder if that caused issue. There is no doubt that with this "mod" the terrain in general is much better, but, when we get to where there is photogrammetry, the color contrast is very noticeable, even noticing where the area with photogrammetry begins, and there is no way to adjust the colors, as it is always different from place to place. So, it's good, but is bad. I think for vfr it does its job well
I was just about to install and give this map enhancement a try for the first time but I have seen some many people here in the comments tell to do otherwise and how it messed up their sim. What would you advice me on this situation?
I don't know if yo use the right hand for the mouse to click on like the parking brake and if you use the left hand for the yoke/joystick but my question and I am new to MSFS but any aircraft I have flown I am way far from the panel and no way can I see any numbers on the radio to read them. Yes I can zoom in but only if I zoom into one instrument even Garmin 1000 the lettering is way to small to read or use. SO WHAT AM I DOING WRONG. Your mouse setup and your yoke/Joystick I assume since you view right and left very fast it can't be the mouse...I'm guessing I have the wrong camera to read the cockpit??? FSX all cockpits are very clear and close like a real aircraft. One more question your Cessna flies very stable any I have used in msfs are all over the sky not realistic like FSX. Thanks Sterk03

I tried it after your last video and I Fly in VR. While using it I saw square Tiles in front of me loading over the old Bing Maps, wich I suppose where the new Bing Maps tiles. This tile loading was not nice to see so I stopped using it. Maybe I did something wrong and I will try again with this video next to it. Thanks !

Hi Michael, Hope your well, I updated the map enhancement no problem but during initial run takee off scenery very juddery although mr FRate was exceeding 60 FPS any thoughts, my coputer specs for info just wondered if the map enhancement settings need ie only load high lod images to be default setting?
When that happens you can try one of two things: what I do is click Esc, go into the settings, turn frame gen off, click Apply and Save, then turn frame gen right back on, apply and save again, and go back into the flight. That cures it for me. Or you can try hitting Alt+Enter twice. Let me know if either work for you!
I am sorry, but I have the paid version of this mod. The Google Pro Server maps are 10 times better than the Bing maps. The colors are more realistic and the roads look like roads, not green covered trails. Bing maps are only better in some parts of Europe.

Great program runs very nice. I noticed I'm on v8.0.2. I used the check for updates through the program, but it says I'm up to date. I went to the website and there's v8.0.4 like you have. So, I just downloaded that & I'm going to uninstall v8.0.2 & hope to be successful installing the new version. Just wondering why, the program thinks it's up to date when it's clearly not? Thank you in advance.
Some people had an issue with their antivirus flagging 8.0.2 so he pulled it entirely, revamped it and released as 8.0.4. Do the uninstall through Add & Remove Programs in windows as stated in the manual, restart your PC and then install the new version. Should be fine. Let me know how it goes!
What are most of you using for brightness using Latest Bing Maps? Is -15 the all around standard here? Anyone up the saturation? Also, even using high LOD, I swear my sim runs smoother/higher fps than it did without the mod..
Ok so Marcus is saying don’t use the mod what do you think I ran it fine but I didn’t use high lod because doesn’t it use more internet . I never had any loading problems because I do have pandemic Wi-Fi from cost, which is pretty fast and I am directly plugged in ethernet.
Hey, Marcus is unfortunately a bit over the top. If you do have any issues there are clear uninstallation instructions on their Github page. I think what happens is people forget to stop the program after shutting down the sim, and if they then uninstall it, there can be lasting issues. But they are solvable using the instructions on the Github. The link is in the description of the video. Let me know if you have any problems with the program.

@@richardPalmisano You're quite welcome! The graphics won't be as good, but you can try it. There is a data counter in the sim itself, in Settings -> General -> Data. The high LOD option uses 4 times as much data as without it. I'm not sure I can really give you a good answer on how much you will use, it depends on your resolution as well.
It's a hard pass for me. Unknown developer that has the ability to collect data on your use (does the off button really turn it off?), the antivirus warnings, and worst of all the api only pulls whatever is available, meaning if you are flying in an area with winter sat data the ground is brown while trees are green and it looks fugy. Asobo is able to color correct the bing maps data based on season, this cannot. No thank you.
I tried this, it crashed msfs every time. I had to uninstall it to get Msfs to run again. Is the author of this software in China. I don't like that you have to install with admin privileges.
+1 for not using this mod. Its great when it works but then you will get issues with msfs failing to start or not loading due to the system32 hosts lines it adds. I spent about a week researching why my msfs would not start and low and behold it was due to the mod adding its own text to the system 32 hosts and msfs failing to pull the data from the right servers. More pain than its worth imo
Just checked my hosts file and there were no additions to either the one in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc *OR* the other one in C:\Windows\WinSxS\ I do however know what you're referring to as this was a problem in earlier versions when using Google map servers.
@@operatordirt4611 Yeah I know, I had the exact same issue as you did and it took me four hours to find out what the heck was causing the problem. This was back when the program first came out, at least a couple years ago now...
Yes, the updating of this app is bad. Have to uninstall and reinstall every time. But, I am not complaining. Also, since using this app I can no longer use MSFS as stand alone. It does not load the flight unless the app is running!
Are you using this version, 8.0.4? You can find the uninstall instructions in the manual, the link is in the description. I would uninstall and clean your hosts file as described in the manual (I think it’s section 6) and then reinstall. Let me know.

Microsoft have suggested in the Developer Stream that they will introduce the new Ning maps into thr MSFS2020 version when 2024 is released.
Yes, Jörg explained it on the FSExpo. Due to the fact that both sims use the same server data, both will benefit from the newer maps.

I had issues with slow downloads and this add on was the culprit. My sim was back ti normal after removing it.

I used it on my previous PC, but with the new one having McAfee as défaut antivirus ... The software cannot launch even in the "safe zone"

Is this update just for the pc version?
I could not get the program to run on Win 11 so I ran the trouble shooter and it ran it in Win 8 mode and it loaded.

The uninstaller is visible in Windows e.g. type "add or remove programs" into the Search Programs and Files box and you'll instantly see it.

Loaded up a month ago--too much tiles and pixels popping in out--stopped using--anyone know of solutions for this?
This problem is only happening with the Bing version, switch to Google Maps or ArcGIS, which is much better but with slightly lower quality.
It's a hard pass for me. Unknown developer that has the ability to collect data on your use (does the off button really turn it off?), the antivirus warnings, and worst of all the api only pulls whatever is available, meaning if you are flying in an area with winter sat data the ground is brown while trees are green and it looks fugy. Asobo is able to color correct the bing maps data based on season, this cannot. No thank you.

I tried this, it crashed msfs every time. I had to uninstall it to get Msfs to run again. Is the author of this software in China. I don't like that you have to install with admin privileges.

+1 for not using this mod. Its great when it works but then you will get issues with msfs failing to start or not loading due to the system32 hosts lines it adds. I spent about a week researching why my msfs would not start and low and behold it was due to the mod adding its own text to the system 32 hosts and msfs failing to pull the data from the right servers. More pain than its worth imo
Just checked my hosts file and there were no additions to either the one in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc *OR* the other one in C:\Windows\WinSxS\ I do however know what you're referring to as this was a problem in earlier versions when using Google map servers.

@@operatordirt4611 Yeah I know, I had the exact same issue as you did and it took me four hours to find out what the heck was causing the problem. This was back when the program first came out, at least a couple years ago now...
Yes, the updating of this app is bad. Have to uninstall and reinstall every time. But, I am not complaining. Also, since using this app I can no longer use MSFS as stand alone. It does not load the flight unless the app is running!
Are you using this version, 8.0.4? You can find the uninstall instructions in the manual, the link is in the description. I would uninstall and clean your hosts file as described in the manual (I think it’s section 6) and then reinstall. Let me know.
