    Either you're all a bunch or trolls or you truly do not have the ability to see beauty and talent in simplicity. He was probably the first person on film to do what he did in this scene. I can easily picture myself seeing this for the first time and smiling then as I did now.

    it just goes to show folks don’t understand certain comedy..jerry lewis was one of the best at this type of comedy ..he’s having an imaginary conference in a boardroom with the guys at the top telling em out it would be if he was their boss and miming some actual words he would be saying to them .. and all to the backing of the amazing count basie’s jazz orchestra.. fantastic ..

    Ok, just exactly what is Jerry saying in the chorus?

    I love Jerry, not least for introducing me to Count Basie at a tender age!

    Jerry Lewis is the king of comedy. He inspired Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, and millions of other comedians in the business today. If you are a parent, introduce your kids to Jerry Lewis' movies. They NEVER get old.

      the sad part about Jerry Lewis and what gets lost in the translation is the fact that he is a brilliant guy and was a major talent. Had he not been such a prima donna and an egomaniac (and had he not treated most everyone around him like shit) throughout his career perhaps he would be viewed in a different light.

    • @miraclebigevent142
      @miraclebigevent142 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Damned right. Jim Carey was this generation's Lewis. That's not a compliment. The best thing Jerry ever did, aside from the money for the kids, was highlighting Basie. Then ruining it by DIRECTING Basie and his band with his studio band during a telethon in the 1970s. HIS studio band looked horrified.

    • @USCG.Brennan
      @USCG.Brennan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ace.....right on!! I introduced all 4 of my kids to Jerry's movies as they were growing up and they loved him. They STILL mimic some of his routines and behavior to this day when they get together (and it drives their mother NUTS)! ;-)

      @jerrylewisthekid5479: Jerry Lewis had perfect timing. I mean PERFECT. There is a dance scene he did with Sheree North. I can’t remember what movie it is from but it is here on TH-cam. If you watch his feet - he doesn’t miss a beat. His timing is, once again, PERFECT !

      The Movie is "Living It Up" with Dean Martin and Janet Leigh. Janet Leigh married Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis was the Best Man. After she divorced Tony Curtis Dean Martin introduced her to her Stock Broker husband and Dean Martin was the best man at that wedding. She was married for 42 years to that man before she died at 77 years old. What a coincidental story.

    All the comments here were written before he died. 20th of Aug. last year. All these comments prior to mine were made while he was still alive. I write this comment in reverence of his memory and all the laughs he gave us: even though Jerry was long before my time. Thanks for the laughs Jerry. I think I saw this on a Saturday afternoon tv matinee when I was very young. He definitely had a knack for amusing most of us.

    Say wants you want about him off camera. It gets no better than this. As with all artists who are such a cut above the norm, when they produce, it's unequalled. Here's a prime example of his genius. He was famous by his 20th birthday. Instead of criticism, enjoy the gift of laughter he brings us. One of the last great living legends.

    Vielen Dank ! Ich liebe Bigband - hier ist es die legendäre Count Basie Band. Sicher gibt es andere, innovativere Bigbands, (z. B. Gil Evans) aber Basie bleibt für mich der Inbegriff des Swing,wie man auch hier in der gut bearbeiteten Stereoversion hört. .. ... und dann noch der geniale Jerry Lewis! So wie er hier agiert, zeigt er, dass er den "Swing" begriffen
    hat. Hinreißend ! RIP, lieber Jerry !

      I did. As a kid, Jerry Lewis was our idol. The only way I can imagine that a crack addict feels is like the neighborhood kids and myself felt in anticipation of seeing a new Jerry Lewis movie at the theatre on a Saturday. 😂 It was all we could think about in anticipation of seeing it. One of our parents would drop us all off in the station wagon, when the first feature started in the afternoon, and we would re-watch it over and over until the last feature. 😁 Keep in mind - the entire time, we were consuming popcorn, Jujy Fruits, (I used to like to put Jujy Fruits on one side of my mouth and popcorn on the other. 😂 ) Then it was Ferrara Pan “Red Hots” (They still make them and I don’t think the box has changed), Ferrara Pan “Jaw Breakers” (That box hadn’t changed either), Chocolate Babies, Milk Duds, Junior Mints, Bonomo Taffy and huge quantities of Coca Cola. Need I say how sick we all were on Sunday ? We were hung over from our drugs of choice: Jerry Lewis and all of that candy, popcorn and Coca Cola. I feel sick just thinking about it. 😵‍💫🤢

  • @gnirolnamlerf593

    Pretty much every one of Lewis' films had one scene of genius in it, like this one, a flawless two minutes on screen. And then there was the rest of the movie. Sometimes good, like The Nutty Professor in which he transforms back and forth from the ultimate Jerry Lewis nerd to a character akin to Dean Martin"s cool cat persona. Sometimes not so good. Martin and Lewis on the _Colgate Comedy Hour_ were stupendous. The combination could not be duplicated. Allen and Rossi tried, shortly after the Martin/Lewis break-up, but never quite made it. I don't think either of them pulled off the complexity and depth of character that both Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis achieved. It gave Martin and Lewis authenticity. They were, after all, actors, not just stand-up comics. (To Marty Allen's credit, he became a full-fledged actor on his own later in his 95-year life.)

    Nicely synchronised. It's a shame that (except for a few blockbusters) Hollywood lost interest in releasing films with stereophonic soundtracks between 1960 and 1977.

    Man wasn’t he special?! How does he even do this? Genius is how he does it!! This man is effortlessly talented! This is our last great comedian, you better believe that. I’ll always love him so much.

    Nobody but Count Basie could have been the background music for this. One thing for sure -- Jerry Lewis had good taste and wanted nothing but the best.

    CB was a great musician. This piece is wonderful. Right up there with The Theme from Route 66 by Nelson Riddle, and Peter Gunn by Henry Mancini.

    @bachstradtrumpet Basie always won those "Battle Of The Bands" with Ellington, etc. He & his guys were always the best. They called that tempo "in the pocket". Recorded in NY. The acoustics of a big room, & everybody playing off each other lead to far greater recordings & quality compared to the overproduced recordings done today - many times with different parts being done at different times & places. There's a lot of late 50's early 60's stereo recordings that are amazing in pop, r&b & jazz.

    I used to watch this movie on TV when I was a little girl and just WWWAAIIT for this part. Thanks for posting this great version, it's the cleanest and best one of this on TH-cam. Anything Jerry ever did was gold for me. And not one toilet joke or curseword anywhere.

      He absolutely would never allow anything off color. NEVER. He wanted his movies to be pure for the kids.

    JL was a superb mimic. At the very height of his powers, he was unbeatable. "The Nutty Professor" remains his best film.

    His first billing in NY clubs was Jerry Lewis Sotto Voce
    (quiet voice). He performed these types of skits on stage.
