Count Basie live at The Apollo, Harlem, with Clark Terry (Trumpet) Buddy De Franco (Clatrinet) & Wardell Grey (Tenor Sax) 1948 to1950. For these two years Basie led a reduced band of between 6 and 9 people, featuring players such as Buddy Rich, Serge Chaloff and Buddy DeFranco.
A bunch of boys from Yale Christened Paul Whiteman with that name and have been disparaging it ever since. "Rhapsody in Blue" has influenced every musician and composer since it's inception: Ravel, Bartok to mention a few. He was the one who hired George Gershwin to write it. Paul Whiteman might not have been a "True Jazz Musician" or a "King", but he Saw where the Music could go and was a "Trail Blazer" and deserves a little more respect. He hired the best musicians that he could under the codes of the time. And Paul Whiteman was the first to recognize Jazz as an American Artform and actually take action on that belief..
Could be wrong but guessing Clark Terry Tpt ?, Buddy De Franco Clt, Wardell Gray Sax. Freddie Green Guitar ? obviously CB piano , Bass and Drums? I'm sure this has been posted before with the lineup.
Count Basie my hero! thanks for the post, this is a toe tapper! 2024 and loving me some Basie!!

Wish still had musicians who could play together like that!!
OMW!!! You can hear them doing what Fats Waller's band was doing, but on a bigger scale! God love them all! :)

I swear Freddie Green has forgotten more guitar chords than I ever learned.
I will take a "Count" or a "Duke" over a "King" any day :)
