In this video, we see how an 8th gen Honda Civic Si (FA5) does against my 1998 Honda Prelude. Both cars have VERY high mileage, but the battle is surprisingly close!
After crashing my 2017 Honda Civic Type R (FK8) at a #Gridlife Track Battle event, I decided it was time to get back to it. I had taken my Prelude out to Weatherly Hillclimb to compete, but I knew the car needed some updating and upgrades. After spending some time and money on Konig Ampliforms, Hankook Ventus RS4 tires, Hawk DTC60 brake pads and some maintenance, I took my 1997 Honda Prelude (BB6) out to SCCA Time Trial at Thompson.

I chose a prelude bb6 over newer civics just bought one in November my previous car was a 00 civic si with k20 type r complete swap that I owned for 10+ years after a few small fender benders I sold motor and parted car out

I love my 2024 si coupe. It’s fun to drive. I bet it goes up in value from now on for the clean stock ones.
Prelude ftw, i enjoy learning upgrades on this car. I already upgraded with a type s oem air intake (dymanic air box chamber) is what they called it.
you should look into wheels, tires and suspension, car really wakes up with that

jus found your channel. Love these cars. Personally got a 4th gen wit a jdm h23a bluetop with a t2w4 tranny. Got an rbc intake manifold port/polished with a plenum extension of about 3/4 inch paired with an 80mm tb; had to get a fuel regulator. Might consider a plenum extension on manifold since the h series love to breathe
The thing keeps up with stock srt challengers and those lil turbo focus st
I personally think the prelude has the better chassis for the circuit. I have a both a 92 and SH. The SH pulls really well through sweeping corners, slower hairpins the rear end wants to step out because of the atts. Takes getting used to but Its great.
The longer wheelbase makes it feel very planted in the long sweeping corners
Definitely does. shuboxinc's prelude is fast around the track for having a relativly stock engine.
@@Exhaust_power it doesnt have the balance of the newer civic due to the h22 being a heavy engine for a 4 banger but the prelude makes up for it a little with the double wishbone
@@lollol-xp4mc stop it. The motor is not even that much heavier. It’s been tested and weighed over and over again many times.

The only 8th gen Si I’d like to own is a k24 swap to eventually go k24/20. Other than that I don’t care for the k20... I much prefer my cam F20b making 230 wheel and seeing 9k rpms.

I have a Honda prelude as well and it’s awesome. Is yours a 6 cylinder or a 4 cylinder? And should I turbocharge it or leave it original?
They were all 4 cyl, but mine has a JDM

Your car corners really neutral. What spring rates and sway bars are you using? I have a 4th gen prelude and am looking to buy my first suspension setup.
I’ll have to look back at all the details, but I’ll make a video on it for you. It’s the camber settings, height adjustment, square wheel setup that is a big part of it too
I have a fourth gen. Get a very stiff suspension for track use. You’re going to need it.
Power wise seems to be about identical if not slight edge to his k series. His lines seem to be very good, maybe more time with the track and a little more grip and you would of gotten him!

Staggard wheel setup, with 200 treadwear tires up front, spring and shocks upgraded (not coilovers) and that's it

How much does it weigh
the Prelude or Civic? they both weigh right around 2900 pounds, with the Civic Si actually weighing a little bit less than the Prelude

@@lollol-xp4mc because stock weight is garbage that’s why. My prelude is not a race car and it’s 2640 lbs. stock weight makes the prelude slow. Later I’ll get mine to 2500 flat.
need to drop a gear before you hit them corners stick in the powerband
I usually do, but I had power studders at higher rpms. Turned out to be a bad valve cover gasket
Interesting, I was wondering why you weren't using higher revs, such as changing too quick out of corners as well. Could go 10sec or more faster without that issue.

i’m willing to bet the prelude is lighter, and that all wheel steering gives you a advantage.
No all wheel steering on my Prelude, just LSD like the Si
Prelude’s double wish one suspension may give him a slight advantage, but that’s about it.
There is no all wheel steering versions of 5th gen preludes in the US Market.
@@FlyinGato no, the prelude uses a torque biasing diff, different than an lsd like the civic si.
