      Hi Bob, the temperatures you are enjoying are a few degrees below those we are experiencing in the UK today, It's a beautiful sunny day here. I really enjoyed these branch line trips, to the best of my knowledge there is no passenger service on this line, just odd freight train originating from sidings along the line, although from other comments, it would appear that the line is closed to regular traffic.

      Hi, that's nice to know, just a couple more from this tour, then I'll start working on my tour of New Zealand and Australia, there is some rail related stuff, but getting a camera in the cab in both countries has become almost impossible in the last couple of years. My next photographic tour is to Austria next month plus a couple of visits to UK heritage railways.

    At 15:45, there used to be a stop - "Pravenec". It's Pravenec - Kolonia, you can see the main part of the village Pravenec at 16:55 on the right side.
    It was a well thought out stop, because of the nearby factories producing car parts and windows for basically the whole of europe. Many workers actually used this train to get from and to work. Sadly, nothing is left of it, not even a bench, but you can still see the nearby factories on the left side coming from Prievidza.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, thank you for sharing this information about Pravenec, it's sad when a factory closes, with it goes the livelihoods of the workers, the suppliers, local shops and cafes. I live in a seaside town that once produced fridges, freezers and components for production lines along with all kinds of manufactured goods. Very little is left now, the factories have closed, instead there are gyms and superstores offering low grade jobs in place of the skilled jobs that went with the factories.

    • @FightingForceSoulless
      @FightingForceSoulless 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Timsvideochannel1 There was a misunderstanding, nothing is left... of the train stop, the factories are still in operation, producing windows, doors, car parts, etc. However the factories producing furniture did close, and one building even caught fire a few years ago, it's now covered by an ad/a banner, but you can still see some of the damage.
      There's nothing sad quite like a dead factory that's still standing and hasn't been transformed.

      @@Timsvideochannel1 Interestingly, this line is in some kind of limbo state. It hasn't been completely abandoned and left for dead as there are trains using it on special occasions at least once a year. Otherwise your trip could have been quite "adventurous"..

      @@TheMajkla Our trip was interesting, the condition of the track was reasonably good, the bridges and crossings look to have been upgraded in the last 10 years, although the rust on the tracks indicated there were very few trains. We still have one very interesting branch line to traverse before reaching Bratislava. I have covered it in one direction as a passenger and the other from the driving cab, it will be two parts and should be ready next weekend, I think you will enjoy it.

      Hi, the locomotive was fitted with two whistles/horns, the one you refer to was used where a loud warning horn was not required, but it was still necessary to let people know the train was approaching, in some cases the driver gave a friendly toot as he waved to people waving to the train.

    Hi Tim, thank you for another beautiful recording from your journeys!
    If you have time, I've translated a bit of history regarding this line from the village's website www.nitrianskepravno.sk/historia-zeleznice-nitr-pravno-clanok/mid/320396/.html there are a few historical photographs on it as well.
    Article about the history of this short but interesting railway line by Emil Vaňo, former chief of the railway station Prievidza:
    The railway line Prievidza - Nitrianske Pravno (then German Pravno) was built in 1908 - 1909 as a continuation of the railway line Velké Bielice - Prievidza. The construction of the line was completed on 30 October 1909. The construction of the local railways was laid down by a law requiring the state to contribute to their construction. The purpose of these local lines was mainly to ensure the loading of the main lines and thus to ensure rail transport from the whole area. In the past, very often these places were connected by narrow-gauge railways, mainly for the collection of wood, coal, gravel, beet, etc. It may seem to us that these are of minor importance, but each has its own history. A hundred years of railway operation on the line Prievidza - Nitrianske Pravno is a reason to recall its history.
    Nitrianske Pravno was dependent only on road transport, which lagged far behind other European countries in Hungary. At that time one of the most important postal routes led through the upper Nitra, but it was not enough. The construction of the road network was under preparation, but eventually it was overtaken by the construction of railways. Already in 1837 began to build the first European railway (Northern Railway of Emperor Ferdinand), which led from Vienna through Břeclav to Krakow, with intention of branching to Slovakia since beginning. Hungary's export interests were to stimulate the construction of a link between Vienna and Budapest with a continuation to the Black Sea, as well as the link between Budapest and Bratislava. After a demanding route on 20 August 1848 from Marcheg to Bratislava, the first steam train was pulled by the BIHÁR locomotive.
    In 1850 the construction of the railway between Bratislava, Nové Zámky and Vacov was completed. In this way, nothing stood in the way for the railway to reach Ponitrie. On 15 December, a steam train from Vienna to Budapest was driven by an ARAD locomotive. The period before 1867 was not very favorable for the construction of railways in Slovakia, despite the fact that in 1848-49 (during the Hungarian Revolution) the then Hungarian Minister of Transport and Public Works, István Széchényi, prepared a generous project to build the Hungarian railway network. However, this project did not affect the Ponitrie area.
    The Austro-Hungarian settlement in 1867 brought a change in the intensity of railway construction. For Slovakia, this meant a relatively extensive construction of railways.
    In the area of Ponitrie it was important to build a railway from Palárikov via Ivanka near Danube, Nitra, Topoľčany to Velké Bielice in 1884. The local railway Velké Bielice - Prievidza was built by Detrich Péter who intended to build a track connected to the branch of the Hungarian Northern Railway in Kláštor pod Znievom. Although he managed to defeat his opponents interested in building the narrow-gauge railway from Zlaté Moravce through Veľké Uherce, Nováky, Prievidza, Nitrianský Pravno and further to Rajec, his plan was unsuccessful (due to lack of interest from Trenčín County) and he built a standard gauge track only to Prievidza, which was completed in 1896.
    Thus, the large village of Nitrianske Pravno remained without a railway connection, although at that time, at the turn of the century, the village experienced its boom. Nitrianske Pravno belonged, but even today it belongs to important localities of the upper Ponitrie. The fate of the town, as well as the surrounding villages, was closely related to the Bojnice castle estate. The development of the village in the distant past was tied to gold deposits in its surroundings. The proceeds of gold mining had to be considerable, which prompted the influx of the population and the municipality also received the attribute "Golden Pravno". Mining business here and in other areas of Slovakia has also seen the arrival of a new German population. As gold mining subsided, the development of crafts continues. Quality cloth of local weavers was known in wide surroundings. The fertile fields around the Nitra River enabled the development of agriculture and fruit growing. At the time of construction of the railway, the village became large and its character was closer to the town. The population was around 2400, inhabited 431 houses. The houses were on the square and in six streets. There was a cloth factory, brewery, distillery, bank, post office, school, town hall, church, monastery and poorhouse. At the beginning of the century, they introduced street lighting, established a gendarmerie station, opened a pharmacy, rebuilt the church and the town hall, and opened a branch office of the First Prievidza Bank.
    After completion of the construction of the railway to Prievidza, the village constantly sought permission to build a local railway to N. Pravno with possibility of construction further to Rajec and Žilina.
    For this purpose, the municipal council turned to expert Dr. Eugen Rudniansky, who was able to arrange a railway concession at the Ministry of Commerce in Budapest. Preparatory work was taken over for this purpose by the joint-stock company Veľkobielicko - Prievidzská lokalná dráha. This company commissioned the work to firm Mercury which built the railway between 1908 and 1909.
    The cost of the construction of the railway from Prievidza to N. Pravno was 999 000, which, inter alia, was paid by the state with 180 000, the Nitra Committe 50 000, N. Pravno 132 000 and the railway company 63 700 crowns of the Hungarian currency. The municipality contributed to other works related to the construction of the track with an amount of 2 020 crowns and 94 halers. The track was put into regular operation as stated in the introduction on 30 October 1909 and the next day the first steam train came here. This is how the local railway Velké Bielice - Prievidza - German Pravno was created with a total length of 39.3 km
    The total length of the track is 11 km. The original name of the station was Német-Próna. The station building is a one-storey building with a Station Master's flat on the first floor. In the perimeter of the station there are two guard houses, a depot, a depot for two locomotives, a "turntable" for manual drive, a water station with a water crane and a sludge pit. The track consists of switches and four tracks with a length of 500 m.
    In 1913 the line to Handlová was built. Thus, the railway line Nové Zámky - Nitrianske Pravno was created, with a branch from Prievidza to Handlová. Prievidza railway station became a railway junction, which was the main reason for its expansion.
    It was seriously considered to extend the track towards Kláštor pod Znievom or Žilina. Finally, in 1914, Revesz Mandel also began its preparatory work. Unfortunately, war broke out (WWI) and the construction of railways stopped. There was no construction of the railway from Handlová to Horná Štubna. Thus, the intention to connect the Ponitrian line with the Northern railway was not realized. Later in the twenties of the last century a plan of construction of connecting lines Prievidza, Handlová, Horná Štubňa was realised and so Nitrianske Pravno remained only the terminal station.
    The downside of this period was the Second World War. During the liberation of Nitra Pravna, the station building was damaged by the German troops during the retreat. The heating depot with the accommodation barracks was blown up. The turntable and the switches were destroyed. The village was liberated on 6th April 1945. By great effort of the railwaymen, but also by the initiative of the citizens, the railway operation was restored already on 10th June 1945.
    Passenger transport between Prievidza to N. Pravno was canceled in January 2003 due to a drop in performance. It has been resumed again in 2005 with reduced number of trains. Then a final axe came down on 7th December of 2012. Since then there are only occasional trains running for anniversaries etc.
