      It is a wonderful piece of history on wheels, I will be posting more from this railway system in the next couple of weeks, showing the inside of the works and covering track not normally seen by passengers. I am very grateful to the people who make these trips possible, they are a lot of fun.

      Thank you Jim, this is a little piece of Europe that rarely features in holiday brochures outside Slovakia, I guess they want to keep this unspoiled fairy tale land as it is, without all the tourist trappings that would detract from is natural beauty. Its a lot warmer where you are than it is in England at the moment.

      Hello Anthony, I'm pleased you enjoyed taking a virtual tour of this wonderful part of the European mainland with me. The Tatra railway system was unexpected, I didn't really know it existed until this visit. I think you might find this video interesting, it starts with a driver's eye view and finishes with a fascinating depot tour - th-cam.com/video/W3xZRIKYh4Q/w-d-xo.html
      Sometimes it is hard to find information on these lesser know railways, there isn't much on the internet and any books that have been written tend to be in languages other than English. I sometimes include information in the video descriptions, most of the time I rely on Wikipedia with articles such as this one - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_Electric_Railway Take care and stay safe.

Downpour can be pretty crazy at times, from a small streams it changes to a river. You could visit Southern Poland, cross the Tatry mountains to Slovakia and maybe keep going down south to Hungary, Austria or Czech Republic. Czech and Slovakia are small countries but extremely picturesque, there is so much of natural beauty or history to take in. Countless castles, mountain viewpoints, medieval towns with gold mines open for public.. zena.sme.sk/c/22081357/devat-rozhladni-ktore-stoja-za-vikendovu-turistiku.html?ref=tit Here's an amazing photo inspiration from only five and half million population but beautiful Slovakia: fici.sme.sk/c/22068389/slovak-beha-po-slovensku-tieto-slovenske-mesta-sa-oplati-navstivit.html .

    Hi Tim, thanks for another high quality video! Some information about the scenery - maybe you've noticed how strange that forests along the line look. I mean Those tall, majestic lonely trees sticking out here and there.
    There was a major natural disaster in year 2004 - spectator.sme.sk/c/20699948/the-day-that-changed-the-tatra-mountains-for-good.html that changed how Tatras look. The old monoculture spruce trees were uprooted or literally broken like a matchsticks in vast areas. But it's amazing to see how the nature has managed to recover itself. However, it doesn't look like those man made plantations anymore, it's a mixed forest with healthy variation of trees and plants. Monocultures are bad for land, there's no diversity for ecosystem, it's unbalanced and prone to fatal disasters and pests. There's a pressure from forestry lobby to have only a spruce because it's the most profitable resource, despite the evidence that nature can get it right if given a chance. Thank you for sharing, Ron.

    not sure if you know, in 2004 came such strong winds that broke most trees, some couldnt look at the mountains losing most of the trees. Thats why you can see some stand alone groups of long trees, but the rest are about 15 years old at best. It reminded me of deforested areas during wars ...

    That's a nice little train ride, through some interesting scenery.
    I'm wondering as to the purpose of those "third rails" which seem to appear frequently only on some of the sharper curves. Is it that the metre gauge trains tend to "ride up" on the flanges and be in danger of derailing on sharp curves, so the extra rail prevents that?

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the third rails are there to help in the event of a derailment. They are different to British check rails that are designed to stop a derailment, these appear to prevent the train completely leaving the track.
