  • In the season finale of Star Wars the Acolyte , Osha takes Sol's lightsaber and bleeds the blue crystal to a red crystal and it happens way too easily.
In this video, I go over the differences between Darth Vader bleeding his kyber crystal compared to Osha bleeding her kyber crystal and just how easily she was able to do it compared to vader.
I hope you enjoy the video, and may the force be with you!

As far as I've seen, it seems that the cristal has been broken and the hilt was damaged, allowing for Osha's hands to touch the cristal
In the comic, Vader's only able to bleed the crystal once he had touched the cristal, as Osha did
Also, Osha made her choice immediately because she had already experienced the Light and lived for a long time in the shadows of Sol's failure, being convinced to even betray her own twin sister in order to "make things right"
So she did the same things, just a lot faster because of episode lenght
Of course, this is my understanding as a writter myself. I sense their intentions, but I've got to say...
I had a bad feeling about this

Thing is that Vader still had a struggle with the light. Padme even said that there is good in him still. Thing with Osha was that while she did train with the Jedi she still had struggles with holding her emotions in check. Being told all these years that Mae killed their mother. And if you paid attention, which I don’t think you did, she did not believe Mae when she tried to explain what happened before their fight. It was hearing Sol explaining what happened that tipped her anger, the father figure who killed her mother and blamed her sister for his own selfish actions. The thing about the dark side is not necessarily that it is more powerful than the light side but how quickly you can obtain that power by giving into that hate. Also remember that Dagan Gera was able to bleed his Kyber Crystal with ease as well.

You gladly ignore the wider story telling to support your argument. Sol didn't give a valid reason.
If you think its valid for the Jedi to take children away. Control who can use the force. And kill those who don't comply. Because that is what happened.
Sol didn't apologise for what he did. Not once. He killed their mother and lied about it all the time she was with him, till that point.
Her anger and hate was insular. She was in shock. That's what shock looks like. An overwhelming collision of emotion that can't be expressed outwardly.
Vaders bleeding experience all happened within his head, plus Vader was always conflicted. Always. Even in that comic, it's there to see, he turns on his master and goes back to obi wan, thats why it took more effort for Anakin to bleed the crystal. But the visions would have been happening in an instant, not drawn out over hours.
Osha was not mentally present from the point she started to choke Sol. Her crystal was being bled from the moment she heard the truth. Anger and hate doesn't not always present it self as shouting, frowns and tears.
I wasnt blown away by the acolyte. But I will always observe content with a critical eye. And apply exterior context to it. I think you've missed things out or not gone far enough in your analysis to help weight your argument.

      It’s disheartening

    • @VulpesChama
      @VulpesChama หลายเดือนก่อน

Well, you guys forget a detail here. That is legends stuff. And no, this is not a "Disney is against legends", as George Lucas himself also stated during his time, that he'd only consider the movie stuff, his own work, as hard canon. And this also includes, funny enough, the books and comics released alongside the movies, which are just inconsistent af. To give one mere example, in the official book to the prequels Windu is described to have a blue light-saber.
These are not continuity issues. These are at best interpretation differences. Also, fun fact to the side, Anakins lightsaber had a cinematic, not lore, reason to not turn red in Revenge of the Sith. Geourge Lucas acknowledged that a red lightsaber would visually conflict with the lava-design of Mustafar in the duel with Kenobi. Thus he kept his blue lightsaber.
The biggest problem is, and that is the legacy George Lucas left for Star Wars, Star Wars was never about consistency. It is more or less a space-opera in which the "rule of cool" supersedes anything. But it gets even funnier than that.
Consistency is something that... Disney brought into Star Wars. By officially decanonizing (again, GL already did that, but no one seems to remember) all of legends stuff, everything besides the movies. They also decanonized the original CW series. And they did that for a simple reason, to make a consistent storytelling possible from then on.
This though also meant that they would shovel a lot of stuff people really liked away into legends. And yeah, we could put George Lucas back in charge, but guess what, he only considered the movies, his movies, as canon. Everything else was interesting and cool, but nothing he would have to follow.
Sure, it is easy to blame Disney, but... it has never been different. Funny enough, these entire debates and aggression towards story writers was one of the reason Lucas sold Star Wars, as he didn't want to have anything to do with this kind of stuff.

IDK i may be misinterpreting this and might get hate but the way I saw osha bleed the lightsaber seemed to have had assistance from qimir/ smiloren, ill get into this in a second, as there are a few factors i wanna go over, first its her old masters lightsaber, the master who was like a father to her, raised her and believed she could follow her dream of becoming jedi even though the entire time he was the reason for her mixed emotions as she didn't know he had lied and murdered her mother and coven. a lot of emotions about that betrayal and even more there is a connection through the force between sol and osha and connection between her and his crystal, we also hear in the episode that mae who has lived with the hatred of this betrayal for years and osha are actually one, two sides of the same person created using dark side rituals (witch) through a divergence in the force so all along the darkness has been in osha and most def in mae, meaning that osha feels all the years of pain from her "other self/ Twin" taking all this into consideration, plus the unknown hatred of smilo ren here is what i saw happen, Smilo ren looking for a new acolyte, has sensed the power in osha more so then in mae and has sensed osha's darkness (through both being near her when she wore the cortosis helmet and earlier through mae) he sees this is his chance to manipulate and turn her especially considering she just heard sols betryal and killed him with out a weapon (the feat he was previously trying to get mae to do) so now he can confirm osha is a far better candidate then mae, he sees the kyber crystal is exposed and that osha was close to this crystal and while she is still angered and confused he reaches out with the force and physically towards her and the saber, i believe Smilo Ren/ Qimir is the one who started the bleeding process connecting his hatred on top of osha's to the kyber crystal bleeding the saber to make osha believe she had fully embraced the dark, she doesnt realize this is happening which is why she is confused when the saber slowly turns red and she even looks like she cant believe she has fully embraced the dark, this completes smilo rens plan making her think its her idea to switch places with mae becoming the new Acolyte.
    -TLDR-
Smilo Ren reached out through the force and started the bleeding of the crystal
this makes osha and us think she bleeds it and embraces the dark,
this completes smilo ren's manipulation to bring the more powerful twin (osha) to his side as his new acolyte/ apprentice

I’ve mentioned it a few times in other comments. I honestly think he did it easily too, but my only reasoning for that is because he was holding onto his hate for the Jedi for 1,000s of years at this point. Probably meditating in his head the entire time maybe even speaking to the force…

@@starwarstalk_ I see. But shouldn't a force user who's committed to the Sith needed to focus on the crystal inside their lightsaber to fully bleed it? It's untill Anakin became Vader is when he's really committed to the dark. While in RoTS, he's only doing so for his own gain. Which was to save Padme from death. Even if he has time, I don't think he's committed that time.
And what I said really made what was shown in the Acolyte more stupid. Because Osha wasn't even focusing her nonexistent hatred on her lightsaber. Sure, she's gripping it super intensely. But her hatred isn't fully focus on it.
My conclusion, never let or trust someone to direct a Star Wars series or film with a mindset like they're making a Hazbin Hotel series. And that's already bad.

Yes, there should be a level of focus and time in changing your crystal to red! That’s why I love how Vader does it in the comics. He had to focus so hard on doing it, and he failed multiple times.
The acolyte just throws that focus aspect into the garbage. Osha is focused on SOL and what he did, and her lightsaber turns red. Interesting

Boy did you forget Jedi survivor? Vader had trouble, but it seems everyone after it had it easy. All those inquisitors with a red lightsaber, I have a hard time thinking It's that hard. If anything, the vader comic writer wanted to emphasize his remaining light side, and what could have been If he did the right thing.
    It's a matter of interpretation.
It's not that deep. Love the vader comics tho, just wouldn't use that as a comparasion.

@@starwarstalk_ I've replayed the game several times now, and read the expanded material, I find him quite a boring villain tbh. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, shouts and screams all the time, and there's nothing in his story that's particularly new or interesting.
To me, he becomes more interesting in the wider context of the high republic itself, where jedi are more empathetic to the galaxy around them compared to the prequels, but, like with cases like Sol, Elzar, Avar, etc., those feelings become unhealthy attachments that cause them to fall from the true path more often.
Tbh I was glad that she wasn't screaming and raging as she turned, that feels like treating the audience like they're dumb in my opinion. Her entire world view has been confirmed as a lie, she kills sol and then collapses into silence as she tries to process it all, the corruption of the crystal is there to clue the audience in on how it's settling in for her.

@@starwarstalk_. Why does everyone’s experience have to be the same? Your argument is that one person cannot do it easily because someone else had difficulty doing it. What kind of argument is that?
Take any skill ever. Anyone can learn that skill. Some people pick it up very easy. Some people find it so difficult they give up. Some people master the skill but it takes longer
Keanu Reeves learned how to master a gun for the movie John Wick
So let’s say any random person wants to learn how to handle a gun like John Wick. You are basically saying that Keanu Reeves said a bar and that no one is allowed to master that skill, any faster than what he did. Period. End of discussion. For the sake of argument, let’s say it took him one year to learn their skills. You’re saying that no one can ever learn that skill faster than one year or it’s just not realistic.
The simple fact is some people will pick it up faster than Keanu Reeves. And some people will take longer to learn that skill.

@@starwarstalk_ Be careful, the series is bad but it has very redeemable things and the bleeding was great because it was not only the moment, it was everything he told his sister before about the hatred he had for her because of his mother and his teacher came to tell him that he loves her just when he finds out that he killed his mother it was obviously a load of very strong emotions and in Ani's case it was so difficult because he was really trained as a Jedi and he already had many of his feelings suppressed That's why it was so difficult for him to have that rush of overflowing emotions to be able to achieve the bleeding. I do believe that the scene was well done.
