It is imperative that America has strong relationships with and knowledge about other nations, and that responsibility extends to all of us. So we came up with a test and went out on the street to ask people passing by, to name any country on a map. It didn't go well.

When i was i high school from 04-07 Geography was mandatory. Easiest subject what the hell people
I believe it is mandated here, which is what baffles me... though I know some regions and cities etc have terrible schools and their own standards, so I could be wrong at least in part.
I remember learning the countries in Africa and US states etc at the age of 4, despite living in an area with fairly bad schools, and then learning in more depth from there... so this was surprising to me. Maybe these people forgot, or bullshitted their way through school. I really don't know.

In Europe we use a map where America is on the left side and Europe is in the middle. But still this is just stupid
@Dash, The map in the video is a (Europe-centered) _Van der Grinten_ projection which they cut up into two and rearranged in order to place the Western hemisphere on the righthandside. This means that the map is heavily distorted in the middle. (Look at how irrealistically wide that Bering Strait is; the whole of Alaska fits into it!)
Note: it's _not_ a Sino-centric (or Pacific-centered) _Van der Grinten_ projection.

That lady who said ,,Who knows stuff like that” absolutely got my geography obsessed friend angry, I am pretty good at geography but my friend is just amazing at geography. He was literally screaming at the screen for 10 minutes.

I guarantee you with certainty. Some of them would’ve answered it right if the map wasn’t backwards. People recollect, the globe better when the map is flipped around (America on the left & Europe on the right.
I'm from New Zealand, and we have maps like these because NZ is in the centre of them and not falling off the edge. I agree though, the ones they're used to would have the Americas to the left and NZ in the very far right corner.
