My favorite small base was a moonpool. The neat thing about that one was, apart from being able to fit all of the standard base amenities like a bed, food, storage, battery chargers, etc, it was also a MOONPOOL, and thus able to mount the vehicle fabricator bay thingy. If I could put a desalination plant in there, it would have been perfect.
I liked linking two moonpools with a 3-stacked multipurpose room between. Middle being the actual linking room with bed planters for food and a distiller , top was a tank for bladder fish, bottom a bio generator + storage. Crafting/upgrading and radio in the seamoth moonpool, chargers posters and small decorations like a desk chairs and scientific equipment in the prawn moonpool
`6:25 Ironically enough, you have a VERY large base according to the game. You can tell because of all the "power lines" pointing to each of the locations. They all share the same power supply.
I'll give you a Like just for the fact I never knew we could build hatches on top of I and X connectors. Sides and ends, sure, but on top? I've been playing these games for years and never knew that. EDIT: And now I find out from a comment on this vid that you can put hatches on the bottom of the connectors. That's 2 new things I learned today.
I think a neat idea would be a base that starts small, and gradually builds upon itself as the player progresses. Like, it starts as a single + corridor with the bare essentials, then it upgrades to that, plus a few more compartments and maybe a MP room with more essentials. The upgrades to add something like a moonpool and so on, all without really having to deconstruct and move anything.
I believe the obervatory floating in the water is a glitch, but lore wise, it could be that it's lightweight and the air in the observatory makes it float
In the X compartment base you can fit even more storage. You had 2 big lockers and one small locker, in the space of that small locker, if you place things well, you can put 2 more big lockers, I've done it.
Fun fact! I believe you can fit a single bed in the X compartment but only along a specific axis. It might not be a bed I might be thinking of something else. It has been a bit I might be thinking of like the shower in Below Zero. Good video!
tbh i dont think it really matters how good your base looks or how big it is, you jus need it to efficient (my idea of efficiency is plastering 7 medkit fabs on a wall so idk)
I remade the x compartment in below zero. Bottom: hatch Top: solar panels Closet stays the same Radio and medkit fabricator side has a mod station Fabricator side has recyclotron instead of the mod station Window side stays the same
Huh. I wonder can you put some of these things on the roof of some of those bases, like the radio, the med back dispenser? Open up more room for storage.
If we’re talking realistically the one multi purpose room is the smallest you can make considering you would need a bed and although not needed early on you’d eventually extinct the bladder fish so you’d need to get a water filtration machine however just talking in terms of in game very creative and although not practical if your really trying to save this is possible
Sure - the first thing in a play-through is to get necessities like fins, bigger o2 tank, knife, repair, seaglide, light. Then habitat builder and a T corridor base (with I corridors extensions on both sides added as need for more storage continues). Only then I build the other things like seamoth and visit degassi bases for multipurpose room.

Gosh, this brought back memories of when you could only build corridors. The X compartment was the only way to step up 'large rooms'.

A base at a minim should include one single bed, one to two lockers, a fabricator, some kind of electricity generator, and a food source 😅
You can still fit a batery charger and a energy cell charge on every base you show in the video.
