    Correction: There is a clutch on the DSG. Two clutches in fact. No clutch pedal. It's not so much an automatic but has electronically actuated clutches though it will shift for you in non-manual modes. The other VW transmissions aren't like the DSG.

    One quick question? So I’m pretty familiar already with the dsg trans and drove a Tiguan before my current 13’ Jetta with muffler delete but IM wondering, are you sure it’s safe to keep alternating between standard drive mode (D) and the manual gearbox? Like say your driving and you floor it on the gearbox then switch back to drive will still moving does that mess up the trans quicker. I only ask because on my old tig I would play around a little too much with the manual considering it was a tsi (really fun!) but yea I just worry a lot about my Jetta now. Any answers are much appreciated!

    • @MegaMarkitos99
      @MegaMarkitos99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edit: sorry forgot to also mention that on the tig I would play around with it but also switch back and forth between gearbox and drive and it eventually started showing CEL and making a bad trans noise at only 20k miles

    • @chrwl007
      @chrwl007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't damage the transmission if you use the manual gear selection feature, because the transmission control module would refuse to do anything monumentally stupid. Also, when shifting to Drive from M or S while in motion, the transmission will most probably stay in the same gear as you are currently in, or upshift due to high revs. That said, don't shift up and down and up and down and up and down in quick succession (in other words, don't play with the paddles; almost like a torque converter automatic hunting), because shifting like that will break even a manual transmission if done enough.

    • @tedjohnson64
      @tedjohnson64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@flute136 The car only does downshift rrev matching in S mode, not in D mode. The rev matching is quite noticable (loud), because when driving and slowing down while passing a neighbor, they give me a dirty look when it rev matches because they think I'm reving my engine at them. So to preserve peace, I always shift from S mode (my default) to D mode, when I'm slowing down near a neighbor who's out walking, in order to avoid rev matching. Hope that makes sense.

    I have yet to drive in DSG mode. I keep waiting for someone to explain when to shift up or down but apparently it's whenever you feel like it and so I remain in drive because I feel something is missing. Like what happens if I'm in manual and I don't shift up when pressing on the gas pedal. In a regular manual I know when to shift base on the feel of the engine.

    • @MrKlemenzi
      @MrKlemenzi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its the same? You shift up whenever you want to. You can shift at 6k rpm or at 2k rpm if you want to lower your fuel consumption. Its excatly the same as manual, except that you dont need to press the clutch pedal since there aint one.

    • @aitken

      DSG isnt a mode... its a type of gearbox.

    • @JackVinall35
      @JackVinall35 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s literally the same you just pull the paddle when you want to change up, you don’t need to remove your foot either as that’s the whole point of a dual clutch transmission. Depending on how much throttle your giving it is how fast the shifts will be, so if your cruising around changing at 3k with bugger all throttle it’ll take a second to change for smoothness but if your flat foot and going to 6k revs the changes will almost instant.
