I love how you ask the questions and set up the review, you're a great dad and it's awesome to see you partaking in his interests and the car he obviously loves :)

Had the manual 2008 version. Test drove one with a dsg and loved it too. The reliability is a big factor when buying a used one if you don't want to deal with a clutch and know your gonna go past 125kmi on it. The dsg is fun for an auto. You can still hoon around with it.
Nice video. I was going to ask if he still has it, but looks like he's now moved onto a MK6. Would be cool to get a new review as I'm maybe looking at both MK5 and MK6, or might go for something newer as my parents aren't too sure about me getting something that old, even though I know the reliability of these build wise. Also I don't think the MK5 has a FSI engine, it says it on the engine cover but it's actually a TFSI. Cambelt usually needs doing by 60k miles and previous owner probs had it already done if it's at 100k with no issues. Water pump usually done at same time. Other things I see being told to look out for all the time are PCV valve, diverter valve, and cam follower. Not too important now he no longer has it but may help someone who comes across this comment
my first car and best car. Stage 2 and made it to 200k miles. I never changed the cam follower or did a a single DSG service. Car still runs great and turbo still going strong. They really made a quality car meant to be driven hard.
Im going to change the cam follower, spark plugs, coils and diverter valve in mine. It runs great been driving it for about 1 or 2 months now and its so fun in manual. Already done it first oil change like 600 miles ago, its really fun to drive, currently at 156k miles, i dont push it to far but sometimes i will hit a quick 40-60
@@WavyCarlos Yea definitely do all that work to make sure car is in optimal shape. I was young and lazy so I never really changed anything except oil change and tires.
In sportsmode you have to shift gears with the paddles?? Not it doesnt! It will shift itself but way high in rpm... also engine light is on... i will make a video myself cause this is all misinformation!
that's so funny he had a mazda3 and then bought a gti... bought my first car and it was a 2005 mazda3 (not a speed3) but had it for a couple years and then bought a mk6 gti for a good price so that's funny
The DSG will let that car hit 60mph in 6.7 seconds with decent tires using launch control. The manual, with a very experienced driver can consistently hit 7.0, but in real world with an average driver you're looking at 7.2 to 7.3 probably. 0-60 isn't everything, but in two cars where all else is equal, the DSG is just plain faster. Manual is more fun though, no question.
Just letting you know you have headlight washers which not many gti has to activate you flick your windshield wipers 5-6 times with your headlights on..
depends on where you drive it. i drive around most of texas’ larger cities and it’s pretty damn smooth. speed bumps definitely show how stiff it is though lmao

haha thanks jagun. he's an easy kid to love.
You couldn't compare it to the "1.8" cuz' there is no 1.8 GTI in the MK5 Gen..
In some countries they sold the mk5 with a 1.8T and called it a gti. But in reality the mk5 gti that we know and care about only came with the 2.0t.
@@gabinggoularte1111 El mk4 vino con el 1.8T, el VW Bora (Jetta Mk4, en otros países), también, vino con ese motor, pero su comparación es inútil
xD
@@gabinggoularte1111 There was never a 1.8T in a 5th gen Golf. What you speak of does not exist
There’s a 1.8t 20v mk4
this guy clearly doesnt know anything about this type of car..
lmaooo
takes about 8 months to find the gti you want

It’s not a coupe it’s a hatchback you American🤣😂
@@reptro2856 There is no sedan version and there is no 4 door version. Hatchbacks either have 3 or 5 doors.
@@reptro2856 I know that. There is just no 4 door version which is what I pointed out.

I just bought one this year 2022 and love it
congratulations man what colour?
Great video.. helped alot thanks
Rocked my world!!! got me 2 tickets in the same month
Dammm me to 😂
8:26 agree, manual is fun, but not in traffic, plus DSG can be TCU tuned to handle a ton of TQ with a stage 1 tune.
thanks for the pov :D
This video has a level of sarcastic comedy about it, the owner hasn’t got the best idea about his car aswell.
Have a similar car. In sport mode its a fun ride. Car does need regular maintenance as is well published.
Wise choice, take a look see at your camshaft follower too. It supports the fuel pump.

The fathers questions are on point

Still driving it ?
@@Kontspleett Yes. But I did have to change a good amount of parts because of age. Still runs and turbo still pulls.

Yikes that rust makes me appreciate that I live in a snow-free city that doesn't salt its roads. My Mk5 R32 is thankfully rust-free.

If you don't mind, how much did you pay for it??
Is this in Hutchinson?
I have the 6 speed. So much funner. I got up to 135 tonight and it could have kept going!
Bro your missing out on the dsg farts, so much fun
The dsg is funner the manual is more serious imo

lol, I was wondering how to activate them.
Comparing to a ‘1.8?’ And turbos working best in 2nd and 3rd? lol. I remember my first car haha
How Miles does this MK5 have??
Ummm just letting you know sport mode does increase horsepower increasing your rev range will increase slightly in horsepower abs torque
I had that car, a 2006 manual, loved it until 109k miles when the timing belt failed and bricked the engine.
That could be any car tho tbh
Timing belt, water pump, and cam follower are the most important to watch for. Other than that it will last for a long time.
meant to be done every 60k miles / 4 or 5 years
Where are you guys located?
hi, we in prior lake, mn!
@@swansog i’m in Stillwater and have the same car
that isnt a pirelli or an ed 30 but has a ko4 turbo? oh and the mk5 gti doesnt have a 1.8. thats the mk4
Just a tip from the manual crew , please please please don’t put it in park & then lift the emergency break up 😂
Brake
ok so you want us to rock back and forth so our gears just clank together? there’s a reason it’s there.
Such a retarded thing to say, why even bother saying that when you don’t even know anything about transmissions
Even with a manual... I don’t pull my e brake up every time I park I’ll just leave it in gear
The dsg is a dual clutch so you have too and i have a manual
Hi is the Golf still alive?
Hi Jon, Nate sold it to get himself into a mark6. No idea if it's still alive. but it was a great car.
Would he of not just got a manual if he doesn't see the point in the paddle shifters
The mk5 polo gti was a 1.8
Wtf how is your car so rusty? My 2008 Mk5 GTI doesn't have any rust whatsoever, not even on the underside.
They are in MN salty winters
How’s the ride feel on this, smooth or bumpy
Stock suspension is a bit stiff, but still comfortable
depends on where you drive it. i drive around most of texas’ larger cities and it’s pretty damn smooth. speed bumps definitely show how stiff it is though lmao
are you related to Joe Swanson.
Bruh it's a 2.5 and there's no 1.8
2.5 its only for the rabbit, gti gets the 2.0

Don’t use the “manual” mode. Not good for the car.
