Many thanks, I didn't realise I had to set TV mode for the green button to meter older lenses accurately, and boy I have a few lovely Ks and Ms. I feel more confident about using them now. Before, exposure was a bit off and I lost confidence. 'A' lenses have always worked fine with AV but great to be able to use my K 28mm 2.0 and K 35mm 2.0, thanks again.
p.s my K 35mm 2.0 has a distinctly yellow cast - Thorium, anybody? I thought about bleaching it with ultra violet light but... I kind of like the way it renders, and if I bleach it, there's no going back for another 50 years! I think I'll leave it and use software if it's too obvious, but so far so good.
Great quick video! You should do this with one of the older 6MP cameras like perhaps the Pentax * istDS2 for the sake of us Six-Megapixel Club members and anyone wishing to use vintage Pentax lenses on these older camera bodies. Thanks for the video.
Wow! Changed P line ->Tv shift on my KP. Green button works soo much better now since I can meter after selecting the desired aperture. Didnt know this option existed.... Thanks a lot! Subscribed.
Pentax took away the aperture ring, now I cannot use DSLR lenses on film cameras. Also, why does it have to be so difficult to use vintage lenses on DSLRs? I mean, it should be a matter of just switching to the M setting and having the exposure info available, like in a film KX. On a KX you knew how far off your exposure was and was quick to adjust. Why not have a dedicated DOF button? Metering was easy on the film KX even when using stopped-down metering. I could even use adapted enlarger lenses for macro, which I still do on my KX and MX bodies.
I guess pentax removed the aperture lever in the D-SLR to make users buy its digital lenses, because of the great ammount of K film lensens still around in the early 2000. And it's still on this politic, even on the too long waited full frame. It's such a mess, because nowdays almost nobody spends money into the diyng pentax system, at least if you don't have a some good K manual lensens to use on it. I really can't undestrand how terrible is the company strategy of Pentax from the '90. They destroyed a great company. Richo hasn't changed a lot in a while.
I have a 200mm f5.6 Tele-Takumar manufactured between '65 - '69 SN 1705313. It has two aperture rings. The front ring is set to the f stop that you desire. The rear ring to allow focusing with the lens wide open. I follow the instructions in this video but the light meter does not activate. I can shoot in Aperture Priority mode.
Apologies. I should pay more attention. Thank you for your patience. I’m on the verge of coming back to Pentax after years of folly with other brands. I used Pentax in the early 1970s and ‘80s. Landscape and the prospect of astrophotography are something that I think the K1 Mark II should do well. Thanks again for such an informative video.
I'm really struggling to follow this because you go so fast that I have to keep stopping and repeating. press the exposure button??? What do you call the exposure button?? activate the camera's light meter??? Is that the shutter button you pressed...?? and it will provide us with a suggested shutter speed to produce the proper exposure...?? ..I don't see where this suggestion shows - only the bin icon? So I have no idea after all that
Works pretty much the same on all Pentax DSLRs.
Excellent video! Precise and concise presentation. Thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll see if I can get around to a *istD tutorial!
Quick and easy how to. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, this will really help me. ❤
Simple and efficient. Thx
Are there any magnification tool to help with focusing when using the viewfinder?
I'm considering buying K-1 mark 1, what's the vintage lens compatibility with vintage Pentax K lenses? Any vintage Pentax K lens will work?
Yep and K-Mount lens from any brand will work. Pretty awesome, eh?
@@PentaxTips awesome!
And manual focus zooms? Input an average focal length? Say, 100mm for a 75 -150 zoom?

If only I'd get those M42 lens markings more or less centered... 🙂
Does the in body image stabilisation system (K1 Mark II) work with vintage manual focus lenses?
Yep! In the video we show how to set the focal length so the IBIS knows how much to compensate!

What about shooting with aperture priority mode with vintage glass?
Only works with m42 glass. K-mount will remain wide open until the camera stops it down

The Green Button. The instructions show how to set up the green button to take light meter readings, to control exposure.
Great video but where you on the way to the airport, it seems a litle rushed...
