  • So Kris wanted to do some small stream trout fishing. The trout in these local rivers are not very big but they are beautiful fish with striking colours. We set off with 2 10ft 3wt Mackenzie NX1 rods set up, one with a dry dropper and the other with two bead head nymphs. The fishing started off with nymphing and then we switched to dry dropper. At one stage there was a nice hatch of olives so we removed the nymph from the dry dropper rig and replaced it with a small olive emerger. This produced some nice rises. Fishing these small overgrown streams is very challenging but also very rewarding. Trout don't always have to be big to be fun!

Nothing too special with the flies Martin.
Best dry was an olive emerger size 14. A cdc loop wing on an emerger hook. A cripple would also have worked.
Best nymph was a simple pheasant tail with a glass bead instead of the usual tungsten or brass.
I will tie some and photograph them next week.
