  • Sometimes you just get that feeling! - "I have led such a little life, I have allowed myself to lead this little life when inside there is so much more. And it has all gone unused, and now it never will be. Why do we get all these feelings and dreams and hopes if we don't ever use them? That is how Shirley Valentine disappeared, she got lost in all this unused life."

It will always be my favourite movie. That line has stayed with me always. Leading little lives.

Watched this movie last night and I couldn’t stop rewatching this scene. The delivery is beautiful and the message is so poignant that it touches the heart

Most of us do lead "little lives". Marriage, a few kids, a house and a job, if you're lucky. That's it. The minority who do excel at something are the fortunate ones.

Simple pleasures are some of the best, though.

How true. After working my fingers to the bone, and nearly killing myself in the process, it's now my time. Next year i'm 60 and i have two Greek islands on my itinerary and a mountain to climb :)

She has a life full of regret, like most of us do ! Life seems to lead you, not you lead it.

Such a captivating film - remember seeing it when it first came out, straight after coming back from holiday - big mistake 😥 ... Brings out the "Shirley" in all of us - if only we were as brave. Bitter-sweet perfection ...

My last holiday abroad was to Mykonos about 11 years ago. Thinking back now I could have disappeared then and nobody would have noticed or cared...

I think anyone can feel this same way regarless of your sex. When I saw this movie back when it came out in the late 80's, I've always kept this movie in my memory and bought the vhs, and then the dvd, and always come back to it when I feel down or just worn out. It has a great story and is well written and acted, and am always so thankful to pull it out and sit back and relax and enjoy. But what she say's here is soooo powerful and meaningful and to think I'm not the only one feeling this way!

I love this film. It has a wonderful message in it, it helped inspire me to just learn another language and move away to another country to experience new things and lead the life I wanted
Always act on your dreams if it's what you truely want. never wait until your dreams get lost in time and you give up on them.
And if it is too late, screw it! Pick up where you left off and start again :)

I don’t think you can fully understand this scene unless you’re a woman of a certain age that has given everything to your husband and children. To have been trapped when they needed you, and feel too much time has passed once they don’t. You have to have been ground down by the drudgery of life and coped with its greyness of mediocrity. Then, and only then will you truly understand this scene…

adulthood typically had that effect over a gradual time period. except 2020s have brought that out Very Suddenly, and on a Very Large Scale.
in terms of vaccine, i don't want that concoction.
nothing like being told "well it's all about you isn't it?"
what's both sad and funny is that person who said that is all about "fight the power! don't take shit from the man!"
