Extremely well written, extremely funny and some good acting by all involved. Back in a time when Letterman was the only one not afraid to make fun of the network they worked for on a regular basis. Cosby pulling the strings was very prescience of the staff. If only we had listened.
The actual CBS imitation of "The Cosy Show" that season which might have inspired this was "Charlie & Co." ABC had "The Insider" copy the look of "Miami Vice."
How ironic... I just watched HBO's "The Late Shift!" This easily could have been Dave's (and the writer/producer's) perception! Thank you, Dave and Barbara plus all staff who supported and brightened our lives with laughs.
Thank you! I was trying to remember the title of it. I taped it to VHS but it’s in storage now. There was an hilarious film by Andrea Martin and Catherine O’Hara about PMS and a very funny film by Bette Midler too. Paul Shaffer and the band had a film too. Great idea.
TV in general was so much better when every single story or show doesn't have to approved by Corporate, Legal, Advertisers, and the government and a panel of Diversity Hires to make sure no one is offended.
Friggin Dave was the best. Had great music as well. I’ll never forget Dave tellin Paul he thought Gary Moore had a magic guitar! he certainly was a magical musician!!! Only Dave had him on all night with the band!
Dave was so funny, especially in the early years at NBC. He was unlike anything that came before him. Whether he was interviewing the biggest stars of the time, or dropping surgical gloves filled with butterscotch pudding off of a fifty foot tower, Dave was just different.
The biggest stars of the time.... and then the 2nd guest was someone you never heard of... and may never see again! Whatever he thought could make 10 minutes of memorable television.
Dave is a rich elite now who can afford to be an uber lefty. Most of the middle class cannot. Having said that, Dave has made me laugh more than any other human on earth, and I miss the show.
He doesn't like Trump - how does that make him an "uber" lefty? The majority of voters in two elections voted for his opponent. I'm guessing a few of them were in the middle class.
this is unironically the best thing i've ever see Letterman do. wow. a reminder that not everyone gets to see the art while it's in its prime
Something off about Cosby? Now, there's an understatement.
hi-yoooo 🥁💥
drink your drink and be quiet now.
"I never should have rented to show people"
Who else recognized Brokaw’s voice right away? Unmistakable. 😂
Paul getting “roughed up” never fails to make me laugh.
@@robertgoerss Paul loved it. Trust me.

Carson did it for decades before him.
@243sd so did my pappy!
This skit makes the CBS show seem like a parallel universe! The "acting" in this has got to be the best DL has ever done too. 👍
This was amazing. I was 4 years old when this aired. Thank you for sharing.
I have bad news for you, Dave: M*A*S*H was a book before it was a movie.
I'm gonna get to the bottom of this if I have to go straight to the top! -Colonel Flagg

Perfectly executed.
Is this where the phrase “CBS Cares” originated?
Yeah right, like CBS would take a star from NBC and put them on their air...
Nnnaaaaaahhh, NEH-VERRRR!!!!
😆😅😂🤣
6:50 "Would you stop making fun of Bryant Gumbel?" 😂 This would have been at the height of their feud after Dave interrupted the Today special.
By late 1985 T.J. Hooker had been cancelled by ABC and picked up for a fifth and final season on CBS late night, in Dave's future 11:30 time slot.
The king, followed in the footsteps of the King
Love ya Dave n Paul
Tom Brokaw is awesome 👌 !!
Tom Brokaw is an globalist elitist qunt

You leave Misfits of Science out of this.
Late night noir
That’s it! Now I know why I watched all these years. It was for the WARMTH ☺️not for the laughs 😂🤣🤸🏼👏🏻👍🎶😄🤪🥸😂🙃😉
1:08-1:13 comedy gold; classic Dave!
That was incredible. This was 1985.. the Cosby Show had only been on a year or so at this point. I wonder what CBS show he was talking about.
This segment was part of the Late Night Film Festival, which aired in the SNL time slot Thanksgiving weekend (11/30/85)

Wait until he moves to CBS and learns about Les Moonves.
who were the writers /producers behind this? What's the scoop?
Cheers ripped off Archie Bunker's Place.
1:50 what show / movie is Dave watching?
Bill Cosby knocked some people out too!
I really miss this show...
Been there. It's terrible. Crushing. Even scary.
Friggin Dave was the best. Had great music as well. I’ll never forget Dave tellin Paul he thought Gary Moore had a magic guitar! he certainly was a magical musician!!! Only Dave had him on all night with the band!
Dave never followed thru on his promise to stop making fun of Bryant Gumbel. Could this be the real reason he didnt get the Tonight Show? lol.
They should bring back The Cosby show! Louis CK, Chris Rock, and Sarah Silverman should play his kids!
...and who else...Dave Chappelle as Cosby?? 😆
Oh Bill Cosby....
Trailblazer
Great!!
Please stop making fun of Bryant Gumbel!
I miss the Letterman show.
Should’ve earned him a Peabody.
