What'd he get caught stealing? Was it a consequential amount of things? I have no knowledge of it... (by 'consequential', I mean, did he steal a Xerox and pawn it, or something...) Define 'office supplies'. I'm just curious.
LOL, sorry. This is just a joke. The real story is Dave left NBC because he didn't get The Tonight Show, but Dave always jokes that he left because Paul was caught stealing and he followed him.@@Mr._Sandman
Paul was on the Gilbert Gottfried podcast and he was super quick, had so many impressions and stories of show biz. Gilbert was laughing so hard he was losing his voice. It's still online if you search for it, GGAC podcast
I'm glad that CBS fixed that issue, but wow! CBS messed up big time. Dave made that network get back into the swing of things, and that's how the network repaid him!? That's disrespectful!
This was one of Dave's funniest bits ever. Although I remembered it right away, I was shocked to realize this was 20 years ago! It felt like it was around a year or so ago. How can this be 20 years ago? I still can't even get my brain to compute that Dave retired. I guess not everything is completely altered and alien. For one thing, Trump still has his own show, doesn't he? But still, how quickly everything changes! And I don't think the falling out with NBC was because Paul was stealing office supplies. NBC always loved Paul and just looked the other way on that. I think the whole thing had something to do with some kerfuffle between Dave himself and NBC. Or am I just not remembering right? Anyway.... Is there any possibility that Dave will come out of retirement? What would it take for that to happen? I would watch even if he ended up on ABC or even Public Access...Paul too.
You know, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever received a People's Choice Award ballot. How do I get one of those? Is personhood a sufficient qualification?
May I ask Mr. Letterman a question? Do you think the success of the show was greater in the 1980s? Or was the show a greater success in the 90s? I remember the 80s fondly and I personally think that was the highest success the show experienced but I naturally enjoyed the experience of watching the show move to CBS. What was that like to experience? Perhaps you might be able to describe your experiences a little bit.
Les could watch the live feed (while the show was being taped) in his office. It's possible he was watching. Also possible that the "stooge" in the control room (standards and practices maybe) called up to Les to let him know. At any rate, Les calling in was a semi-regular thing on the show.
Just more proof of how dumb some people are. Can you imagine working on the CBS website and promoting the opposition instead of your own star? What the actual F?
The thing I love most about Dave is how he stuck with Paul after he got caught stealing office supplies at NBC.
He just wanted anything he could grab fast.
He sent them all home to Canada. We just got laptop computers, and it's 2024.

"How are you?"
"Oh, you know..."
I miss Dave every day. This is such a great YT channel.
"This network you're watching right here, Chucho." Classic Letterman. Perfection.
NBC era was Classic Letterman. This gripe segment was never fun. NBC Dave would fill time with fun bits.
The best part of the show was always this first segment after the monologue.
Yes!! Memories
Agreed.
"Like the David/Liza marriage. You don't want that to happen to this." That's priceless.
Paul was on the Gilbert Gottfried podcast and he was super quick, had so many impressions and stories of show biz. Gilbert was laughing so hard he was losing his voice. It's still online if you search for it, GGAC podcast
Classic CLASSIC Letterman. Absurd & righteous perfection.
Perfect description of Letterman's humor
This is why I was a fan of Dave's show, and remain one to this day. From the daytime NBC show right on through the end of his CBS run.
Putting Leno there in that graphic, especially that prominently, instead of Dave is clearly some corporate shitweasel who got his feels hurt by Dave.
Woah, woah, woah, you can't blame Conan for that! Don't blame Conan!
Letterman became Bitter about everything and it hurt his show because of it. He never could beat Leno in the ratings and he hated that.
Leno had better lead-ins to his show. Letterman didn’t have that kind of network/corporate support.
Dave’s Jay Leno impersonation never fails to slay me! 😂
it's so spot on lol and it's hard to imagine a jay impression of dave
Love love love daves "jay" impersonation...classic
Dave's rants always fill me with joy.
I can't believe this was 20 years ago. It used to be when I thought about 20 years in the past I wasn't talking about a website lol
"Are you feeling better?"
"I feel MUCH BETTER!"
More Dave rants! :) Do you have one circa 1991 of Dave ranting about Disney World? "It's just high school kids in rat suits, drunk"
Dave’s Leno impression is 100% hilarious - especially considering their history 😂
I'm glad that CBS fixed that issue, but wow! CBS messed up big time. Dave made that network get back into the swing of things, and that's how the network repaid him!? That's disrespectful!
To quote Deputy Barney Fife (from another great CBS show), “Nip it in the BUD!!”
Easily one of his best bits and man is that is a long list. "So and So is fired".
Classic Dave! Love this guy.
4:37 a "photo fax copy" I love Dave. He's a boomer that I never wanna not have.
Man cbs must have hated Dave. Thats like the kc chiefs putting up a press photo and inserting tom brady instead of patrick mahomes
“ehhh hey whatdaya think mavis im on CBS hehe!”
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THESE
Love Dave's passive aggressive JOY!!
I think they should have followed up Les Moonves' announcement of the firing with a clip of Joe Grossman being pushed out on the street.
I'M ON CBS!!
I'M ON CBS!!
Great going, Dave!!
And the people love you too, Dave. We're just laughing too much (& too damn lazy) to vote, though...
6:14 - Having Iggy Pop call in would have been hilarious.
Hate to admit this but I always thought people with higher IQ’s preferred Dave! I absolutely preferred Dave over Leno!
Same. Leno is for simpletons.
This is why Dave was and always will be the best at what he did.
The interactions with Les Moonves were always hilarious. More of them please.
More with Les!
Is that one of them things like jumbo shrimp.

TV Gold. love this from the UK.
Dave as Jay supercut please.
Hi dear Dave ❤❤❤❤ how r u ❤❤❤❤ welcome back ❤❤❤❤

Gosh I miss Dave..
Hell Hath No Fury.
This guy is why I get in trouble at work. 😂
That was EPIC!
Why would they use Jay Leno?!?
People love his denim shirts and denim pants!
Did they ever explain why this happened?
You know, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever received a People's Choice Award ballot. How do I get one of those? Is personhood a sufficient qualification?
"here to today, gone in thirty minutes"
❤love my Dave❤
A great FOOBAR for CBS.
Two face and Captain Rapello puddin pops bringin' up the flanks.
I grew up watching Dave every night. If we were up late we would switch over to Conan.
Unfortunately the wayback machine only has a snapshot from the day after this aired.
I didn't realize how good this show was until it was replaced with all the Trump/Biden hour long rant shows.
on which website is that again? 4:25
Dave is a working man at CBS. LOL. Paul wasn't caught stealing. Dave was caught with his pants down.
I've got bad news for you - Cosby's still up.
8:09 you'll thank me later

Would have been funny if the website refreshed showed Oprah
4:26 which network did Dave go to after nbc?
CBS
So, Leno's pic was photo shopped?
Nobody noticed the Cos.
Dave's hatred of Letterman got a little old and silly...
Was that Jim Downey playing Les Moonves?
No, it really was him.
Not a bad guess, as it sounds a lot like Jim Downey. But it was the real Les Moonves.
@@allendracabal0819 Les Moonves was a guest on Lettermen more than once.
