    I have been trying to work on a pair of snow gaiters all winter. With ripstop and fleece. I haven't done it yet, but I'm so glad you did 😊

    The easiest thing would be if you have high boots to just tuck trousers in, yet I understand that gaiters are higher and even with trousers tucked they offer quite nice amount of protection, that is why I came here to check your tutorial😊

    Great idea. Won't be as tough as shop bought gaiters but will be much lighter in weight. However, even if one has a sewing machine & knows how to use it I think a certain level of sewing skills are needed.

      would be a good time to upgrade your skill set. I have learned I can do just about anything I need to on an old sewing machine, as long as I go real slow.

    Hi Maiu! I absolutely love your channel! You take a no-nonsense approach to everything... What an awesome pair of gaiters you made! You do a great job of explaining things, making things seem so simple and well thought out. Keep up the great job with your channel! Can't wait to see the videos of your next adventure with your mom!

    Thats spooky !!!
    Four days ago I actually came to the conclusion, that I would have to sew some gaiters for my son.
    To be used in Sweden this summer.
    I'm already used to modifying my gear and tents, so sewing doesnt scare me.
    But I'm no where nearly as talented and skilled as you are.
    Your gaiters looks great and are well done.

    Simplistic! I like it! Now I just need a sewing machine and spare rain pants! Probably be cheaper to buy a pair but making you're own is always awesome! One more reason to buy said sewing machine though :D Thank you!

    Hi Maiu .. yep, a useful little project 👍. I have a couple of cost-saving ideas (being a pensioner on a fixed income 🙄) floating around in the little grey cells (including this one .. a pair of lightweight 'summer gaiters' .. against wet undergrowth, ticks and such ..). Must just now master the household sewing machine 😊.
    Hopefully, this video will trigger me into some action .. thanks.
    Take care .. and please keep them coming .. regards .. Tommy

      Thomas Musso --- ... and they are also useful against snakes in the undergrowth in summer if they are a bit thicker and you're hiking in a country with more dangerous wildlife. :)

    Inspired by this video, I made some snow gaiters for my young kids using an old pair of nylon convertible pants that already had velcro at openings on the calf. To make gaiters to cover my own boot, I think I might need to start with a larger piece of fabric. Thanks for the ideas!

    Just wanted to say thanks Maui for your video which has inspired us to make some lightweight waterproof gaiters. We got some Sil Nylon from Profabrics here in the UK plus hooks, Velcro etc and they turned out great about 35grams each which we're going to use with 3 F UL rain kilts which are about 80grams so about 150grams total v about 400grams for our waterproof trousers! Plus easier to put on in mid hike in the rain. Every gram helps with your 60 plus! Mike and Nicky

    Great useful project,Maiu,,..I have worn gaiters for many years, primarily while snowshoeing,,allows me to wear a more comfortable ankle high boot ,instead of tall snow boot,,which makes it easier to function the snowshoe........have some similar to yours ,but with velcro in back......and a pair with zippers on the side with fabric like a waterproof gore tex......good to see Luna doing well also...til next time.....Stay Safe and God Bless.....

    I think my store bought gaiters have a snap clip just below the bottom of the velcro, near to the laces. I've had to repair the velcro multiple times, it was so strong that when I unzipped them it pulled out the sewing thread. I used a combination of sewing and superglue to fix it back in place. I've also had to change the strap under the heel, It was elastic but I replaced it with thick para-cord. This makes it more durable and it's replaceable after it gets worn scrambling over rocks. There are eye holes at the sides on the ankle for it to tie into.

    Great video, thanks so much! I wonder if they would work with skipping the velcro and just leaving the leg as is? Especially with rain pants that have zippers at the bottom? I might try it. Thanks again, I love diy gear.

    • @MaiuLunekund
      @MaiuLunekund  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the pants have zipper then it should work without the velcro. I tried with the pants i used and the boots didn't fit thru.

      @15more9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hiker in Estonia I was thinking that without the velcro they’d have to be used like Dirty Girl gaiters, slipped over the foot before putting shoes on. Not as convenient to put on in the middle of the trail though.
