  • If you are anything like me, you like to alter your gear to make it perform or look better. Most pouches and packs come with simple paracord zipper pulls that work, but are not very appealing. In this video, I show you how to make some cheap and easy zipper pulls for your kit using Bubba Big Straws, i.e., food-grade silicone tubing. You can get silicone tubing just about at any hardware store, but this stuff is brightly colored, adding a little flair to your kit.

    If you are willing to spend a little more on the straws, you can get them at Amazon: www.amazon.com/Bubba-Reusable-...

    People overlook it but there IS a difference between a good zipper pull and a bad one. Especially at night or when your zippers are being difficult. Thanks for sharing this awesome mod!

    Very cool, who would’ve thought a straw would finish a zipper tab so well.

    This is cool. I could see using different colors for different outside pouches. Blue for water, red for fire, green for food and so on. Rock on brother!

    Okay, that's pretty cool looking. It's nice because as you stated it's a quick project and easy to do. I could even see cutting those straws a bit shorter and of course we can play with the colors. I have three cool bags, but have yet to dress them up or upgrade them with paracord pulls and such. I like that pouch, but the costs of Maxpedition is tough on the wallet.

    Heat shrink tubing does the same thing, and you can use a heast gin to shrink them tight to the paracord.

    Great project, i make mine with heat shrink tubing. You can make straight pulls like yours or shape into ring pulls as well.

    You were talking about spacing from the zipper hole, a loose knot right by the hole would keep the spacing even. You could also double, triple ... knot the ends to keep more of your cordage. Never know when you are going to re-purpose it.

    • @survivalkraft
      @survivalkraft  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +XGC Scrappy As for the spacing up top, I just like to keep 1/2" so that the zipper pulls move freely. Pushing the straws too close keeps the pulls rigid. As for the knots on bottom, it is not a bad idea, that would just double the size of the pulls.
      Thanks for the suggestions! Blessings!

    That's pretty cool. I didn't know they had straws this big. I wonder if you can make little kits out of these straws like a fishing kit, or matches or whatever and melt both ends? I'm thinking that you can melt or glue a thicker wire loop or eye screw in one end and put the light weight little kits on your key chain?? Keep up the great work.

    • @survivalkraft
      @survivalkraft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wjf213 Hmmm. These are silicone, so they don't melt. When exposed to fire they turn white and crumb to dust. As for gluing, it may work, I just haven't tried it. Let me see what I can come up with. If I find anything interesting I'll post a vid.
      Thanks for the suggestions, bud!

      +Survivalkraft Yes, that's what I was wondering when you said silicone in the video, and I seen that it bent and did not kink, I wasn't sure if it would work. Maybe some sort of urethane caulk would work? That stuff sticks to everything. I just like these straws better than the plastic ones for long term use. I can see plastic straws failing in a short time frame. I'd even like to make a few different kits and throw in my coat pockets. It would be more comfortable than a tin.

      Seems you've been giving your concoction a test drive. Otherwise you'd have more sense than to make such a ridiculous comment.

      +marijaunnaz If I knew how to do either of those things . . . well . . . I would probably not post them because I was drunk on my own urine wine!
