We tried finding the BIG 5 in one day at Royal Malewane, South Africa!

- On our first day at the amazing Royal Malewane, a luxury safari lodge in Thornybush Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa, we asked our guide and tracker to try and find the big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo) in just 1 day.

Royal Malewane is wonderful. My first ever African safari lodge experience. Thanks for bringing back the wonderful memory! Their spa is incredible too considering you are in the middle of nowhere. If you can get Singita to sponsor you, I highly recommend it. The most incredible one from Singita group is Kwitonda Lodge in Rwanda imo.

Royal Malewane is amazing! Our first safari ever. We visited mid June for 3 days. On our first afternoon drive we found 4/5. We started late afternoon (4:30) because we were welcomed by a herd of 15 elephants at our suite, plus taking photos and videos. Right away we found more elephants, lions and buffaloes. Just before sunset we found a female leopard. Then 20 minutes later we found a male leopard. At this point it was too late to find the rhino. The next day we found the rhino (twice same day) and in the afternoon we found a pangolin, a very rare find! It was Fantastic! Can’t wait to go back. Our tracker was Kevin and our guided was Conrad.
We’re hoping to visit in the latter part of the year, looks amazing!
I personally think cheetah is a better contender for big-5 list in case it gets updated in future.
I don’t think it will get updated any time soon, but cheetahs are amazing animals for sure 😍 one of our favourites 🤍❤️
