Great video - I have 2 Leica Barnack cameras and I've also shredded a few rolls trying to navigate the bottom loading ...conundrum... This camera reminds my of my beloved Contax G1. In fact I think I can see the on/off switch is the same on both cameras. To me the Contax G1 was the next step that Leica didnt go to - and I get why. The Konica Hexar looks like the camera for me, thanks to this video. - Thanks again.

I’ve only had that issue once with a Leica, definitely learned my lesson haha. You can confirm if it catches by watching the rewind knob, but also I find just putting a finger on the sprockets (far right not the curtain of course), and advance a tiny bit it’ll catch and you’re good to go. I never fully trust the mechanism anymore, but I had issues with electronic camera teeth wearing out as well.

Oh man same thing happened to me with my M6 and my first time changing a roll of film at a wedding. Like you I got to frame 37 and it just kept on going. Coming from an M2 which you actually have to manually take the spool out I was heartbroken as there was a sunset during cocktail hour *sad face*. I'm now MEGA cautious when it comes to loading the film, I'll actually watch the spool rotate once or twice now before closing the base and back plate. And then watch the rewind lever to make sure that it moves correctly too. So I feel your pain! The Hexar has always seemed appealing and glad you're enjoying it.

Oh man, yes! the first several times it happened to me was at a wedding where I was moving fast and the same thing happened. Highly frustrating and it is part of the reason why I bought the hexar.

Hey. Just bought one, and I have a Leica Summicron 35mm on it, and when I scooped it up, the guy mentioned that the rangefinder patch doesn’t match up vertically if you’re using any M mount lenses that aren’t Konica. Is this true in you’re case?

That’s really weird because my patch lines up fine vertically using my 50 summicron but I’m going to pull them out and double check it first thing

My patch doesn't line up vertically and I'm using voigtlander 35mm 1.4 and voigtlander 15mm 4.5. Theres a video on here that shows how to calibrate the rangefinder but doesnt seem like it can be done without some damage to the body/rubber grip.

I'm curious to know how you're loading your M6. To me, loading a Leica with the fast load mechanism is just so much more straight forward and less fiddly. Of course, you have to make sure the film isn't crooked over the focal plane, but your Leica _should_ just take up the film if you put the tongue of the film between the prongs. This is the best explanation of it, and once I learned this, I had no more issues with film uptake: th-cam.com/video/Fcy86A-wj-o/w-d-xo.html

@@timriddick2 looks like it was us two the video was made for then! haha. Regardless, let me know how it goes once you get your M6 back!
