Welcome to the world of yesterday. That’s how we shot and it wasn’t ever an issue. You slowed down your subjects. Shooting film today for a wedding is a super niche market and your clients need to understand this prior to signing on for analog
Yes I totally understand that and shoot a ton of film at all my weddings. My goal though is to blend a bit more contemporary style of photography with a timeless look of film. To me that means more candid natural moments rather than the slow posed photos you tend to see from the past. I love both but having the tools to help me approach that best is what I’m looking for.
I admittedly don't own a leica film camera but I feel like the RF is one of the best kept secrets, I bought two when they were around the 600-800 range in mint condition just incase people figure out its an M mount camera lol
Thanks for sharing this. Having had the chance to borrow a friend’s Hexar, I can say that it was really fun to shoot and easy to burn through a roll. The dealbreaker for me was that it was uncomfortable to carry around. As seen towards the end of your video, it falls backwards and digs into the body. In the hands, a joy to shoot.
I forgot to include that in this video. I actually took a video of me walking around with the camera on a neck strap. It balances soo poorly. It is such a bummer. The strap holders are in bad spots. It is so fun to shoot though.
Haven’t had a chance to use either but based on your needs sounds like the hexar is a home run. Plus that extra cash saved should help fund more Leica glass. :) 👏🏼👏🏼
I shot weddings with Leica film, usually 3 around my neck and a Nikon f100 in the bag. 28 35 50 and a Nikon zoom 24-70 2.8 love that setup . M6, M6TTL MP. Rock on!
You can definitely shoot into the sun with a Leica. The holes happen when it’s sitting on a shelf or somewhere in direct sun light. If you are constantly moving you won’t have a problem.
I’m torn between getting a Contax G2 or the Hexar RF. I don’t have any Leica glass currently but already have the 45mm Zeiss lens for the Contax. What do you think?
Do you need auto focus? That should answer your question. For me I’d prefer to shoot film a bit slower and make sure my focus is exactly on what I want to draw attention to. Depends on what you are shooting and what you want the camera to do. For me I preferred the Hexar but I can see why people love the G2. It’s a suped up point and shoot.
A great comparison video. the look you achieve with portra is soo good. That you can burn a hole in the cloch closure I did not know. 😲 good that you have mentioned it. The Hexar is eo a great camera but you can't get it repaired as well as a leica.
Nice review. Whether you have to hand wind or wait for the auto film rewind, you and your clients still have to wait. But, the hand wind does draw more attention LOL
i'm hexar af shooter, always want to shoot the hexar rf because of the M glass system. The only drawback of the rf is that the shutter sound kinda loud comparing to Leica or hexar af. When talking about quietness, there's no looking back after using the hexar af. No matter what, still want to get a RF lol. Nice video man!
Wedding is definitely requires faster cameras, I don't think Leica M bodies is good for it. Although in my view Leica M7 is built better and going to last longer, but Konica looks fun.
Thanks for watching. I wear glasses too but just add diopters to all my cameras so I don’t need to wear them. The hexar was a similar viewfinder and it’s harder to find diopters.
Hi Tony, great video! I jumped into your channel because of the M7 vs Hexar comparison, which is great. But I have some questions on your professional use of these? Do you exclusively shoot film? Don’t you carry around any digital camera just in case something goes wrong? How do the couples react to this kind of photography? Thanks a lot, new subscriber!
Thanks so much! Here’s a an in depth video on how I shoot film at weddings. th-cam.com/video/YWRDh47FVQs/w-d-xo.html To answer your questions I shoot both film and digital. For how my couples react, most can’t tell the difference they just love my work and aren’t sure why. I kinda coach and educate them through the process why I prefer film. But I shoot digital as it gets darker / night then match my digitals to film. I’ve actually been shooting a bit more digital lately cause TAP presets are so good.
@@TonyWodarck thanks a lot for your answer and your explanation! Now I understand your workflow in a better way and your clients feelings. I will check your vídeo as soon as I can!!
I have the Summilux 50 ASPH. It’s my all time favorite lens. I also have a 35 cron ASPH v1 and a 28 Cron ASPH. All these photos in this video were shot with the 35 cron.
Which do you like best?

Love my Hexar. Having the 1/4000 shutter speed is great during bright days to open up the lens.
Totally. Such a great camera.
Tôi yêu thích HEXAR.

Smart! Such an insane camera for the price.

The Hexar is a home run for sure. You need to try these. They both have their perks. I do prefer the M6 over the M7 though.

If you’re going for the Leica just for the glass, DON’T. Zeiss glass is just as good if not better than Leica’s glass.

Yeah that’s the tough part if it breaks. But you could buy 3 or 4 for the price of the Leica.
@@TonyWodarck here in germany a hexar on ebay costs as much as an M6....😅
What!?!? Crazy!!

Very interesting discussion. Thank you.

wheres that square lens hood with cap from that you had on the leica lens on the hexar rf?
It’s the Leica 28 lens hood
..thank you for comparision, what is the difference in rangefinder....i wear glasses.....is the konica view bigger? greets BM

Nice Florence Marine hat!
Thanks!! That’s where I work.
i really wanna try the Hexar.
You should. I was so surprised. I’m loving it.
Hey tony which one would you recommend me to get? the Contax G2 or the Hexar RF?
Do you already own some good Leica glass?
@@TonyWodarck not at the moment but if I get the Hexar body I’ll get with the Leica glass
If you need autofocus get the G2. If you prefer manual focus get the hexar.
Hexar RF prices are on the up. Buy now
For sure

Stoked to see this vid!
Thanks Benj!!
Sold my M7 and keep hexar , simply because more practical . If I want Leica then my M4 will be my best .
Rad!! The hexar is such an insane camera. I totally understand that decision. The m4 is a work of art as well.
Get a Leica M Motor winder. Can’t believe that you don’t already have one as a wedding photographer.
The winding to the next frame doesn’t bother me as much as rewinding the roll which I believe the motor doesn’t do, right?
Great video

@@TonyWodarck do your Leica m lenses have any compatibility issues with the hexar rf body? I’ve read some rumors of focusing issues.
Sounds like a Canon 1v might be a better option for work
If I get the money I will get an M7.
The hexar is super nice but the Leica feels more timeless for sure.
Hi, will you do a review of that 1v? Love that camera.
I did a comparison video of the 1V vs the Eos 3. Will be releasing it tomorrow.
@@TonyWodarck Nice, i'll be waiting. Thanks.

But have you checked out Konica glass? There are a number of people who feel it's better than Leica glass!
Does Tony respond???????
Of course! 😉
one thing for hexar, do not shoot when there is no film in it
Good to know! Thanks!
Why?
