Hey boet. I did a similar mod on my QP awning. I must say it surprises me that none of these big brands have incorporated lighting in their awning arms. Their RTT options have solar capabilities so you mount your solar panel, plug it in and there is no need to worry about wiring. I would presume this would roll over into the awning products.
Bugs don't see the red light spectrum too well, thus you get much less flying critters pestering you, also, red light doesn't affect your night vision as much as white or Amber, so I can walk from my vehicle's illuminated area to an area of total darkness without needing to let my eyes acclimatize.
