I remember the days of Mokhotlong Mountain Transport back in the 70s when the tar road ended at the Pholela Bridge just outside Himeville. My father founded the Drakensberg Motor Club and raced the Roof of Africa Rally 8 years in a row 1967-1975 in his off-road specials.

Shocking to see all the trees cut diwn. Huge erosion problems starting there now. Why did the environmental dept allow this to take place. What with the "No bacon and booze" I think we know the answer. Unfortunately it might be impossible to rehabilitate and regenerate the land. Big big probs ahead in that area in the foreseeabie future.

Your authenticity is the special ingredient and to be honest if you were doing this full time you shouldn't change anything. I grew up in a Natal Parks Board environment and my wife is the same as I in our views of Africa. Surprise and adventure is the name of te game! We do not enjoy a scripted or guided tour as much as a self drive. Yes, I've trained as a guide but as a normal self drive tourist the sense of adventure and wonder is a significant draw card. You give the world that same sense of adventure and excitement in your channel those personal drive experiences give. Brilliant!

Monkey apples are part of the Strychnos family and are a staple in a number of indigenous herbivores diets. Slightly citric in taste and good cricket ball practise when short of a ball! To be is special and incredible thicket fauna and flora populations. Very beautiful reserve.

We loved our time in Tembe when we visited South Africa about 6/7 years ago. We got to see our very first Suni Antelope there.

In December 23 we spent 4 days at Somkhanda at Thamboti wild camp we had close counters with elephant and rhino in our camp it is a great place and so glad they have reintroduced the wild camps. Thanks foe sharing this video it's real life presented no fancy shots just plain fun. When is your next tag along tour.

In 2018 i went there for a school trip and a pride of lions walked into the camp where +-30 kids where sleeping outside under the stars in an unfenced camp. We all just had to run into the huge tents that where there. Later we saw them again when they had moved off. Biggest lions i have seen amoung any other reserve.

What a great episode. Really enjoyed this one . Have always wondered about Somkhanda, and now definitely on the bucket list for sure. Love the fact it’s unfenced camping and they allow the freedom to leave the vehicles in the park. Enjoy the commentary and the ‘raw’ footage . Great episode and thanks for sharing 👏👏

Always enjoyed killarney. Was nervous camping there at night though hardly slept. Also some of my best 4x4 memories. Also stopped going due to the management rules - very sad. Hope they get it back to its former glory.
