Some people can’t tell a red star from a Patel Phillipe and think the iwatch is cooler than either… really the cool thing is that you get the cool style like a Richard Mille with what appears to be an awesome level of quality and aesthetic for the price.

The case is certainly nicer looking than a lot of Richard Mille look-alikes as it is actually faithful to the RM design language. I find that a lot of affordable RM alternatives fall flat due to poor design. That being said the skeletonized movement in this watch still leaves something to be desired. This watch suffers from the same issue that most affordable skeletonized watches suffer from and that is the fact that the movements aren't designed to be skeletonized and just look ugly. Unfortunately the perfect RM homage still seems out of reach, which is a shame since I actually really like the brands aesthetic.

For a ~$2500 watch purchase, I'd rather buy one or two vintage Omega Seamasters. Yes, their design is very much different, but they are very solid and keep their value. I'm very happy with my vintage Omegas, and it's very unlikely that I will sell them.

  • @penngwinn

The watch is Chinese parts that are assembled and go through QA in Japan (at least that's the way I understood it.). I was able to fund their Kickstarter and get a 2 pack of the T4 Archers, and they are awesome. It looks great, and has a tourbillon, but it doesn't cost $30k minimum. I gave the second one to my buddy for his 40th, and it's been his daily wear for nearly a year. Looks new still and functions perfectly. They come in a really nice box that was way more elaborate than I was expecting. If you want to try to fool people into thinking you're wearing an RM, this is the best way to do it for sure.

About a year ago, I purchased a Zer00 Time T4, which is a tourbillon, movement. I investigated it at the time, and my watch consists of Chinese parts, but is assembled in Japan. The Chinese actually do know how to make a good watch these days, but their main problem is quality control and cleanliness in assembly. Zer00 Time avoids this by assembling the watches in Japan, where they have the reputation as perfectionists. My T4 is beautiful, runs great, and is a real conversation piece. I totally love it! I own Rolexes, Omegas, Panerais, Longines, etc. - but if I want to get attention, and start some watch conversation, I wear my T4.

As an "above-ground replica" watch, it's probably overpriced! The only thing unique about it is that it comes with a 2-year warranty. In the aughts, I purchased two Omega watches. One was purchased from an authorized retailer; the other was a replica that I've used as a "beater" for the past 15 years. After about ten years, the genuine watch stopped ticking and required $800.00USD for servicing! The replica, that cost less than 1/10 the price, has never stopped ticking and keeps relatively accurate time to this day.

I'm not an RM fan, for most of their line. However, I kind of like this and if I was in the RM market, I'd probably look for one their older watches that were more like this. This watch is an interesting quandary as many popular watches are semi-clones of other manufactures watches and we forgive them for this because either their copy became the most popular version or it's "just different enough". Cloning the fonts, for me, pushes this too much into the copy category. I think the case is fine, their Japanese/Swiss movement is weird but isn't pretending to be something it's not. If they had come up with their own font it would have been enough different for me to say cool.

Looking at the watch, courtesy of your macro lens, some of the finish on the parts are reminiscent of a time when a thou, or one thousandths of an inch, was considered to be precision machining, but we are now living in an age where microns, one thousandth of a millimetre, are how "precision" is measured.
That's not a criticism of Chinese watchmaking or good quality Chinese manufacturing, it's more of a dig at the designers who specified such loose finishing tolerances on parts that are in clear view ... and that's the perspective of someone who has a couple of $2,000 watches.
For such a "showy" watch, I'd be disappointed with the level of finish, especially as the level of finish could be improved by adding 30 seconds to the milling cycle times.

I think the reason so many people find RM to be so distasteful is that it embodies all the negative aspects of conspicuous luxury items. It’s practically designed to scream “Look at me I’m rich.” It’s extremely distinctive, but there’s nothing to justify the quarter million dollar price tag. It’s the watch of choice for rappers, athletes, and other similar celebrities to show off how rich they are. But with this watch, absent the quarter million dollar price tag, I begrudgingly admit the design is kinda nice

Excellent macro details! Looks sharp, but not sure if one would fork out this much for a Chinese watch... for now.

How is this not plagiarism? I really dont get how the watch industry gets away with it.

It's not worth the extra $1,750 because it kind of looks like a Richard Mille

How else are you supposed to get dried boogers out of your nose? I don’t think it is a coincidence that your finger has evolved to fit into your nostril.

Tough call. Depening how you look at it, if this has RM printed on it, it would be a fake. Now without it's a 'hommage'.

If this is a Chinese watch, why does it say Japan Made on the dial? So, Chinese watch made in Japan with a Swiss movement. All for only $2,000!! 😅

A Rm for 250, or a home for 250 making 30k a year while still owning and gaining equity. People who own rm just have f u money.

I think RM are fugly -- but extremely-beautifully-made -- watches (particularly the movements; thank goodness they don't come attractively cased or I might be tempted). This has all the fugliness and none of the beautifully-made-ness.

Imagine this Richard Millie watches were about 100 bucks maybe maybe $1000 he couldn’t give them away now you can’t even buy one … that’s what happens when a celebrity says okay I’ll make your company big for you as long as I get half the money 😂 and bam 💥 the watches are millions of dollars all the sudden…

  • @patrik5123

What stopped them from making it from real gold? And how do they justify $2000 if it's all just a combination of slightly modified mass produced parts that suppose to resemble some big brand all together?

  • @julieta203

If anything this impressive effort shows how ridiculously overpriced an RM is.
