Chuck from notime2besad vlogs everyday and it's pretty much the same and it gets boring then there is Johnny in Thailand he does about 2 or three a fortnight and it is interesting and fresh .

I use to come to Pattaya when I was a teenager. It was a simple seaside village where those of us who lived in Bangkok would come over to enjoy the beach. That was 1968-70, yeah, long time ago but it was fantastic back then and we truly lived like kings. Also soldiers and sailors would come on R&R. What a difference it is now.
The USA Air Force built U-Tapao Air Base & it opened in 1966.
I went to Pattaya in 1990, spent three weeks there and blew £3000. Had a great time but never dared go back because I worried I might hever leave

Eddie,check out Lake Toba in Sumatra, its stunning. You can fly direct from BKK to Medan.
I think you've got your approach spot on. I totally agree on Pattaya being good as more of an occasional treat. I did six months after I retired and I might go back next winter but doing Macedonia and Bosnia this summer. My favourite places were Hua Hin, Kampot and Hoi An.
Pattaya is fun for a visit but I find the idea of living there nightmarish. I am curious about your slow travel approach. Do you stay in hotels or rent short term? When I retire I like the idea of living for a few months at a time in a location.

As much as I enjoy your videos, Eddy, I am afraid I could not live in such a hot country, as I can't stand the heat and much prefer cooler, autumnal weather. A lot of people do. We don't all love the heat. I like then cooler British weather. The heat makes me sick. I always dread the summer coming around. But yeah, as I say, good, enjoyable videos, Ed. Keep up the good work.
Sounds like a solid plan Eddy. You are partially responsible for me moving to Thailand from the US. Actually I've been visiting Thailand and Vietnam for 30 years but I landed up in Pattaya. I'm on a second 12 month condo lease now, and I have a single exit retirement visa. It just turned out to be the perfect combination of things for me in this city and I'm taking Thai classes at a local place that I really like. If I develop a new income stream I will travel more but on my social security I'm OK for now. Hope to meet you sooner or later !! Cheers !

Let me tell you Ediie, my wife of 19 years is from Udon Thani although we’ve lived here in uk now for many years. Udon used to be a drab, boring city, it’s now a lovely place to be and only 50 kms from the Laos border…..its really been transformed and is a very progressive City,its not a town!……I wouldn’t be surprised if you settle there, much better than Pattaya in the long run…..failing that, personally I could easily live in Chiang Mai

Pattaya is like a big plum pudding . Pattaya is like a big tiger in the end it will eat you all up slowly . Most farangs last up to about five years in Pattaya .

Alrite Ed, quick 1 from me. Me & my mate went to Ayutthaya in Nov 2022, lovely place & as laid back as places like Koh Chang. We got the train from Hualumphong in Bangkok. 40Thb each way. Lots of temples (it’s a mini Angkor Wat), many hotels give you a bicycle for free. Lots of lazy hours at eateries & bars along the river. TOP TIP: get the train back as it stops at Don Mueng, easy to get a flight/taxi straight back to Pattaya as the train is quite slow from Don Mueng to Bangkok station so jump off at Don Mueng and straight in a cab. Safe travels pal!

You should still buy a condo while they are dirt cheap. it doesnt mean you cant travel around its an investment. I have my condo and i still travel around when im there

Hi Eddie, Neil here, I recommend you travel to the far North of Thailand, up to the Mekong river. Mai sai and Chang saen and travel over to Laos. Get off the tourist trap Eddie . 🤓🇬🇧
Steady Eddy, regarding flights vs land travel, I'm not sure if you're aware of this but the immigration at the Aran-Poi Pet border (Thai side) typically only let you come to Thailand via land twice per year. You might have to fly in or go through a different border crossing after a certain number of times if you're coming into Thailand via Cambodia regularly. This might have changed as I faced this issue in early 2019, however it is just something to be aware of.

It says very clear on Thai embassy website: maximum two land crossings per year. And it always been like that. Why nobody ever read the official instructions?
There are also other reqs there: money and hotel reservation - must show at border crossing if requested.
@@VittoShulmanBack before the Junta came into power (i.e. 2014), people used to regularly live in Thailand and just do border runs every month. They'd just change the land border they entered through, so that they didn't go through the same one too often. Slowly, the rules got stricter until around 2017-2018 when people couldn't do it anymore. The point is that what is written into the rules and what actually happens can sometimes be different things in Thailand.
It's currently -27 C here in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. I visited Pattaya in 2006 and loved it.
Good luck with the itinerant retirement, Eddy. I think I'd probably end up doing the same, rather than taking a 'fixed abode' (such as a condo, etc). It's good to stay 'agile' (able to react quickly to changed circumstances, etc), but it can be tough moving from place to place after a while - and in the longer term..? Hmm. Perhaps take out a rental wherever for a good few months from time to time, so at least you can give yourself a break and a chance to orientate and recharge.

You'll love Udon Thani for a shor trip. Its like another country within Thailand. Everything is cheaper including Tuk Tuks and odd fruit are found everywhere. Look out for Custard apples. Try the Brickhouse pub. great Sunday Roasts.

I like eddy and am a big fan but your right . He needs to change his attitude a bit . I learned Spanish over the years of travel . Now I am learning to speak the Thai language , a person can start out slowly. A few phrases at a time .

I agree with you Eddie on the daily life of a you tuber, Years ago I subscribed to " no time to be sad " who posts a daily video but there is only so many times you can watch him and his wife's family having a meal or going shopping or going on a journey and stopping at a fuel/ shopping station. Although I still get daily alerts unless his tag line shows something interesting I don't watch now.

We live in Hua Hin and love it. Absolutely no interest whatsoever in Pattaya. We all know why foreign guys go there.
