busy with our lives, my wife suddenly passed away as I was 59. after I felt better, at 62 I got for the first time on a plane at 62. started in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and later Azia. most of time I traveled alone and it was great. sadly at 69 I got a mild stroke, same as Jim Lea of Slade had. now I will never travel again but so glad I did it. dont pospone because you never know what is around the corner waiting for you.

    Your best blog yet.
I was a teenager in London. I wanted to hitch hike down to Spain. My best friend was not ready. After two weeks with me having no work, he announced, he did not have enough money. I having no work for two weeks, set off alone, I had a really hard time because I did not have enough money.
Another time a friend was always going to go to Thailand with me
After three times I said my flight is this, get a ticket, see you on the flight.
    He did not show.
These clowns will just hold you back. Just tell them your flight and time, an forget about them.
Usually its just the beer talking.

Traveling is one of the most wonderful things anyone can ever do. I would say anyone who's never been to Thailand or nearby. Do it. Don't wait for anyone else or i can't afford it. Book your flight 6 months advance, work hard and save. It will be the best experience in your life. You only get one life

I stopped travelling with other people in my early 20's. Basically I had no patients for it. I like to do what I want to do and not what other people want to do (if that makes any sense).

When I’m alone and see couples, I’m envious. But on the (rare) occasions I’ve been with a partner, I’ve wanted to be on my own. Never satisfied😂. Lessons of life.

I think the number one, numero uno reason to travel solo is you meet people, you're forced to communicate with locals or like minded tourists and if you're pretty pleasant you'll meet loads of people on the way and make many new friends.

Most times I have travelled with people I end up being disappointed. Either they are confrontational drunks, like sleeping all day, way too cheap/poor, late for everything, break laws in other countries or they fall in love instantly and completely forget you are travelling with them. I have left a few people who pissed me off in the hotel and moved on. I just leave a note at the front desk for them when they check out so they don't think I am missing and send them a detailed email on how their behavior was the reason I left them. On another note one of the best things about travelling alone is the fact that there are no witnesses😉😉

When solo, you can wake up and totally change your plan for the day without issue or drama. And as already stated in another comment, you experience more finding your own way, interacting with locals, much more so then if traveling as a couple or group.

For those “social” people who fear traveling alone, I would advise them that they have a special advantage when going solo. I’m more outgoing by necessity when I’m on the road. My “social life” is never better than when I’m traveling, meeting people in unusual places and enjoying uncommon experiences. And when temporary loneliness strikes I contemplate why I travel and how much richer this traveling life can be compared to my everyday existence. Your vlog is spot-on!

I always travel alone, and love it that way. I actually broke up with my last partner when we travelled to my favourite area of the world (non-mongering) and I really felt restricted. Our relationship wasn't strong enough for me to sacrifice my wanderlust. I'm now 40 and I don't see myself ever changing.
You are totally right, and I couldn't describe it better - travelling is how I make sense out of life.

I find travelling alone enhances the experience exponentially. And when you encounter other holidaymakers in groups and eavesdrop, their chitchat is so meaningless and dull that you can barely listen for 5 seconds. It helps your language skills too (if interested in learning a bit of Thai). The only exception is if I have a Thai lady along - that can be fun.

Another fantastic video Ed , it’s so refreshing when someone is completely honest with viewers like you are, I’m a few years younger than you and traveled a lot in my own, especially in Thailand and Asia, it does sometimes get very lonely but the other times makes up for it , I get the pedestrian pace now also and it’s great to be happy in yourself not having to rush everywhere, there’s no doubt as you get older you prefer a slower pace, my plan now is hopefully in another few years meet a nice lady and travel together, see both sides!! Anyway keep the fantastic videos coming they are very cheerful and uplifting.
PS I seen you in Thailand but you were doing a video so I left you alone, hopefully I will see you someday.

Absolutely dead on in this video. We can relate to everything you said. I've spent years doing things that I wanted my brothers to experience and they thought--still do--think I'm nuts for doing these things. My wife's been on more of these adventures--the best company in the world--than anyone else. Admittedly I have taken some chances; I try to keep those things at a minimum these days. I could go on and on, but this is written in full support of your endeavors and to encourage anyone thinking about "going it alone" to watch, listen and apply your words within. Take care, but LIVE!

Very much dependant on who you travel with.
I've travelled solo, and as a couple, travelling with a partner can be great, someone to share all the joys with.
I've also enjoyed the freedom of solo travel, especially when I was younger.
Solo or with company, the main thing is to go! , life is short.
P s regarding lonely planet, don't bother buying any issues published after 2020, the format has changed, they are worthless with little information.

Good video ... resonated well with this old itchy footed explorer.
Before divorcing I traveled many years with wife/family who expected 5 star hotels and so called popular destinations.
After divorcing I have done many trips solo, which is why I am convinced traveling alone is the best way to travel. I even road a motorcycle 35,000+ kms around most of Australia with just a swag strapped on the back, sleeping under the stars and exploring off the beaten track remote locations for over 3 months.
Never ever felt lonely, I am quite happy with my own company or mixing with other travelers or locals when the situation suited socialising.
Travel is an urge to which I happily succumb. Just spent 12 months living in Jomtien/Pattaya and my feet are starting to itch again.
Peeked across the Mekong at Vientianne to Udon Thani but did not cross over so maybe Udon Thani ...having not yet explored NE Thailand?

Hope to do Pattaya with a mate this year, but I might end up on my own. I'm fine if I'm on my own...
Always have an agreement with mates when I travel. Your holiday, my holiday. If we meet up its because it's what we want to do. Exploring with mates can be fun!

Best thing about travelling alone is that "What happened in Thailand, Venezuela, Nicaragua" truly does stay there. No tell tales.

When i first decided to travel alone to South East Asia as i was planning my travels for months all i would head from family and friends was i was going to get robbed even murdered it made me slightly worried for the first week.
Both have pros and cons it depends on who we are travelling with,
    Thanks for sharing eddy.

Traveling alone is also building your character, you get to know yourself. As you said when you travel alone its safer. Whenever i've travelled with my football mates abroad, we always got into altercation either with the local fans or even police. Cheers Eddy.

One of your best topics Eddie and a lot of people will relate to it.
I’m hoping to retire and move to SE Asia within 2 years, am 52 soon and have seen too many people become unwell or their circumstances change and their travel plans get scuppered.
Am following your current journey with interest and keen to see where your next destination will be.
Idea/suggestion for a future topic for you. What would be your top 10 destinations and why?

I prefer to travel alone from my homecountry, with very few plans. See what happens, meet a few people along the way and going where I feel like, when I feel like. I would find it very hard to go anywhere from my homecountry with someone. Can't see that happening.

cheered me up this video. I agree but one time I did go with someone else (a female). Did not work out at all because you really get to know their dirty habits and stupid naive opinions about the natives. Can get dangerous if you are with someone who isnt street smart. Best alone and then maybe travel stretches of journeys with random people met en route

I've travelled alone and with a close friend a number of times. If you are with someone you need to allow each other some flexibilty. Eddy lad! Get yourself over to Japan as soon as you can....the Yen is at a 34yr low against many currency's! Great country, best food anywhere and fantastic public transport etc. I lived there in the 90's. Enjoyed your recent vlogs in Laos. All the best...Bill

My first few trips to Asia were with a group of Mates and although we had a great time I got a little fed up of doing what the group wanted to do rather than I wanted to do - there's more to getting pissed every night and getting left with Ladies no one else wants.
I do travel sometimes with one good mate who is liked minded like me and he does is own thing like me if he wants to - no dramas.
I prefer to travel by my self now a days have a great time with no regrets. I have a budget , stick to it so what can go wrong ! ( Women - its always Women )

Traveled all around Asia for over 20 years (36 trips ) alone the best part is you do your own thing make your own choices when you want. I enjoy my own company and what I do there is no witnesses of my money been spent on women and beer wasting the rest. Travel is amazing and does not need to be expensive after your flight is paid. We all only have one life don't waste it see the world. Safety has never been a problem I blend in any crowd looking like a back packer wearing a plastic watch carrying 3 wallets with my money split 3 ways just incase of been robbed in the road less travelled. 😊

I travelled with my girlfriend, bunch of lads, had enough, wanted to go solo. The best thing I ever did was, I was in my 20’s then, last time I travelled alone was to Warzaw, 57, Italy 58, didn’t get the same buzz.felt lonely for the first time.time catches up with everyone Eddie.my personal feeling is you should find someone to settle down with, small steps Eddie.
