Great video, it is a big service to the community. The first ambulance I purchased was via auction and it was in a small town in Ohio. After about 700 miles it shut down on me. I was thinking it was a fuel related problem. I got ahold of a towing service and had it towed to a power stroke diesel shop. Luckily I broke down near a good one. When all was said and done I was out over $2,400 dollars. They replaced the engine wiring harness and the primary alternator and for whatever reason it was running good so I took off. I didn't get very far until I had to limp back to the shop. It ended up that there was serious rust in the fuel tank. He cleaned the tank out, put new filters, etc. and it was good to go. It also had a significant rust problem that was not visually apparent. At about the 1,300 mile mark, the rear left caliper came apart. I continued home very carefully. The shop I took it to at home had to work extremely hard to remove the wheel due to rust and rust is what destroyed the caliper. I will never purchase a vehicle from the rust belt again, no matter how good it may look visually. One more note about aluminum, it may not rust but it can definitely corrode. If you see any raised areas on the aluminum body that look like rust bubbles under the paint, that is most likely corrosion. It typically happens when the incorrect hardware is used to mount lights, etc. to the aluminum. I am not sure if the salt from roads also causes it. I had to sell it as it left me very uninterested in putting any more into it. Needless to say, I lost my shirt on the sale. It is now a plumbers truck in town. Sorry for the book length story.
Pro tip: even after the wait light goes out keep waiting until you see the battery volt gage goe up. The glow plugs keep cycling after the light goes out. So when its really cold you should cycle the plugs 2 - 4 times then on the last time wait that extra 20-30 seconds and when the volt gage goes up then crank it 😉

David you have really come a long way with your videos. I'm still working through watching all the build videos however you just seem so more relaxed and in a peaceful place. During some of your build videos I could tell you were really going through tough times and we're under the wire to get things done. Even Lefty looks a lot more settled in. I am so thankful I came across your Channel you have given me a wealth of information how to proceed in my dream of spending the rest my life on the road and hopefully at the age of 67 I'll be able to log couple hundred thousand miles. Very good and informative video David. I'm a fleet manager for a relatively large heavy duty fleet and a certified ASE Master technician. You did great! This will really help a lot of people.
Great video!! Some of the best advise regarding diesel engines is performing a cold start with the engine cold to the touch and a cold day is even better. Something to look for is the exhaust; if is white colored after it has just been started (cold start) then the motor is, “tired”, and is soon to need a refresh; I would pass on it unless you’re prepared to pull the engine and rebuild it. Another really good thing that you noted was to remove the oil fill cap and check for any “blow by” (smoke or positive pressure) coming out of the filler neck. David; you have a solid Ford 7.3L diesel that is a good Diesel engine. However, the newer 6.0L Ford diesel engines aren’t as robust nor as sound as the 7.3L engine; they also require much more maintenance and get less mileage. I wouldn’t recommend one unless you absolutely have to have a Ford... I did some research and talked with a few EMTs and Paramedics to see what their recommendations were with regard to various rigs (Ambulances). Without fail; all that I spoke with recommended the Chevy 6.6L Duramax primary due to its mileage which they just said was significantly more than the Ford; specifically with regard to the shorter van body style type 3 body. However, Chevy stopped making these van bodies in 2013 or 2014. The good news is that these van bodies are becoming available now on the market. I purchased a 2010 Chevy G3500 Express Cutaway (1 ton van body) that was made just before DEF was introduced. I just took a trip across the state of Iowa (northwest to southeast) and back last weekend as I’m learning the Ins and outs of the rig (approximately a 650 mile trip). I filled my 30 gallon tank once and still have over a 1/2 tank left; I saw an average mileage of a little over 17 mpg towing a motorcycle on a small trailer behind me with wind. I have seen close to 19 mpg with just the rig and my worst mileage was a trip to Arkansas last fall pulling a 20’ enclosed car hauler with a motorcycle and an ATV inside up and down the mountains at speed between 70 - 80 mph; I saw 11.6 mpg. I don’t need to run my rig that hard and can drastically improve my mileage and increase the seat time on longer drives by slowing down to 65 - 70 mph (1800 - 2000 rpm). At 55 mph (1600 rpm) is where I see the best mileage, 19 mpg or a little better. I’ve got a lot of power as noted by the previous towing statements and also noting that I had set my cruise control with tow/haul mode selected. My rig would actually downshift as it started running up the mountain and would then be passing semis as it actually maintained the set cruise speed. What I learned is that I will release the cruise control goin up the mountain so that my rig won’t down shift, rev so high, and go that fast. I don’t need to be passing semis going up a mountain... However, I will then re-engage my cruise control at the top of the mountain as I start to head back down. This is because with the tow/haul mode selected, it will hold my rig at speed and not allow for a run-away situation. Also, I’ve found that when tow/haul mode is selected I can just touch my brake pedal and it will automatically down shift my transmission, which helps to slow me down and saves my brakes. I have a CDL and have driven semis for years, but this rig is a new bread all it’s own. It drives differently than cars, pickups, straight trucks, and semis. Although it has some similarities with a few of the aforementioned mentioned. The rig without tow/haul mode drives more like a car in that when I let off the accelerator it will coast and I will have to slow it with the brakes alone, but with tow/haul mode selected it will slow with the transmission if I touch the brake pedal and I can down shift through the six gears if needed simply by touching the brake pedal (but not actually apply the brakes). Basically I’m learning how the computer runs the engine and the transmission. I’m still in the shake down mode to find any minor issue before I take it on a longer trip and so that I feel comfortable taking it across the country after I build it out. I’m starting with the mechanicals and then the cab before I actually start the build (conversion to an RV) in the back (house). This also allows me more time to camp in it and to think about what my must haves are and how the layout... Great video, great tips. One thing I like to do when I’m buying used vehicles is, to get someone to drive it, and I follow it. Look at wheels.Do they track straight? Any wobble? Look at tailpipe, any smoke? A lot of smoke? Stuff like that
Will definitely be rewatching this video before I buy. This winter I will be traveling in my SUV to get a lay of the desert southwest to see if this is a commitment I really want to make. In my 20's and 30's I was nomadic by choice and never let the grass grow under my feet. Now that I am older I may find I would just rather stay put and grow a garden. Another great video, David! Excellent points Dave, One thing I like to add (that I wished I knew about when it comes to diesel trucks) always check the engine hours indicator, a normal personal use diesel truck will get an average 35- 45 Miles/hr. Do the math and compare the truck mileage with the "Engine On Hours" meter...Keep in mind, ambulances do a lot of idling in their service life (heating and air conditioning) Diesel engines love running under loads, not at idle. I hope this helps...
Hi David, kudos for your great video. We are former Roadtrek owners now seeking an ambo that is either converted, partially converted, or stock depending on condition/price. I’m learning more about diesels as well as ambos and your video was very organized and thorough, so a newbie can understand. I’m making a checklist based on your video for when we check out rigs. Also, we will never buy another rig site unseen. The Roadtrek was sold by a reputable (seeming) FB seller that had a following, so we bought it and had it shipped. Motor/transmission were great, but because it was low mileage and lived in Ohio then Michigan, it had surface rust and many leak points that were not disclosed. While we did make it work for a few years, we could have done much better by seeing rigs in person and not be so desperate to buy one remotely. Thanks again!

Nice job, you nailed it. When I bought mine it didn't have the pass through, there was just the window (1999 Medtec) with a cabinet installed in the house just below it. I figured I'd remove the cabinet and small window and then have to do a lot of cutting/welding. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the doorway was in essence already there, I just had to remove two cross braces which didn't look structural at all but were only there to basically create a wall and window between the cab and house. Just mentioning this as some people get hung up on there not being a pass through, I don't know if they're all the same but it saved me a lot of work I thought I was going to have to do. I have a few pictures of what I did that I can send you if you want.

I couldn't have stumbled across a better video! I'm going to look at my first rig tomorrow morning! 95 ford 7.3 taking my son and my son in law (mechanic and semi driver respectively) . Being a 60 yr old woman not familiar with diesel engine wanted second & third opinions....never thought about taking a code reader great idea! There is a little area of rust on the DS rocker but this is Pennsylvania and an almost 30 year old rig....its got 70 k so not even broke in yet....rural area they are only getting rid of because they somehow got a grant or something and bought a 2024 and don't need 2! I saw it sitting out one day after hearing about them getting a new unit and ask what they were doing with it said they were selling it i asked how much they said 20k i said darn i only have 8k but call me when the price comes down to my level....called me this week said they sold the stretcher and would take 10k for it....say taking it for the ride and letting the boys look it over....i have managed to save up another 1k in the month and a half since this possible deal popped up at 20k...hope we can find something to get them down to 9 k or i might have to nudge the boys for a short term loan😃
I hope it's a good rig - remember, there are rigs of that age that are selling for $3-5k so you're well within your right to talk them down. Tell them to take the lights, sirens and flasher unit off to drop the price more too :)

Find a mechanic that'll do a vehicle inspection before you buy. It'll cost you some $ but it can be way cheaper than paying them to do repairs. And the piece of mind can be priceless.
Good advice all around. If you do not feel confident about inspections then just hire a mobile mechanic. They can do pre-purchase car inspections for around $75. I was once banned from a Toyota dealership because I would always find the issues and they would essentially loose on the sale. Showed up and they had called the cops on me for trespassing even though the client said he had hired me. Was funny! So anyway they lost that sale too.

Congratulations on your rig! I suggest drive drive drive... to get comfortable with it. And, dig into it! You'll become expert at all of its systems :)
Lots of great points. I would add, however, that while some diesels can go 500K miles plus without major failures a lot do not. Yes the 7.3 is robust but an ambulance gets hard use. I would highly recommend that those without mechanical knowledge and/or the will to work on their rig a lot go for a low mileage rig with low engine hours. Yes they will pay more but in the long run they may come out ahead. Especially newer rigs with a lot of pollution controls and the related electronics. They can be money pits. Like the old saying goes you can pay me now or pay me later.

Yeah, since the pandemic, I have noticed these things go for far more than pre-pandemic prices. RV sales are going through the roof and the word is out that ambulances are a good surrogate. But with that knowledge comes increased demand and sellers know they are in demand. Also, some engines are better than others. I have a 6.0 PSD and that is NOT as user friendly or as inherently reliable as a 7.3 PSD but I doubt I will have my ambo for more than 100,000 miles anyway to really care and it has plenty of power. There are the Duramax ambulances and rarer the Cummins but most ambos seem to be Ford PSD (in which case the 7.3 is the choice engine for the older ambos). There are tons of forums on which powerplant is the best and what to watch out for...

Trying to talk hubby into this choice of RV. This is going to help. We are avid remodelers and have the ability to pay for some trades too for the build out. So this is a viable hobby for us in retirement with the outcome of an investment and Recreation choice. You are a great resource!

He makes a lot of good points when buying an ambulance. I looked at one and I got lucky. The rig ran good and everything but the lucky part about it was starting to pour down rain when we were driving it and the ceiling on the box water was just flooding with rain water. II couldn’t believe it. The problem was, I found where the antenna was on top of the box, the rubber seal rotted away The man that owned i The ambulance he never knew that the rubber grommet where the antenna was had rotted away. David is giving a lot of great checkpoints if you’re in the market, you may want to write these checkpoints down so you have a list of them to go over
@@TheCampulanceMan Yes that was an easy fix. Don’t know how long it’s been leaking inside like that, it ran very strong though. I didn’t see anything wrong with it just didn’t wanna deal with what I may fine if I bought it and start tearing things apart because he don’t even know how long it’s been leaking like that and it’s been sitting. So we bought a Ford transit and I’m doing all the work myself, so it’s gonna be quite a task.
We had a vacuum pump go out on are ambo. So will say to keep an eye out for that as well. Other wise it has been good to us so far. As time goes on I keep a tool box on the rig and some extra parts like cps sensor, belt, fuel filter and air filter as well.
@@TheCampulanceMan yes sir the brake vacuum pump. Just under the ac compressor on power stroke motor. Was easy to replace on the side of the road. Have never had one go out on me and did not think to replace it prior. Lesson learned and we made it home safe

Not necessarily topic specific. I just bought a replacement battery for the ExpOverlander. The previous Diehard Platinum was ELEVEN years old!! I highly recommend them.
Had a 1999 F-350 Powerstroke 4 x 4 loved that truck. I replaced the idler pulley and the belt tensioner the batteries, all filters and all fluids. Then the "gentleman I was buying it from reniged on the deal.

if you go solar put 1500 watt to be above the game, especially if your boondocking .. away from power for days, and lithium ion batteries with a solar charging unit , use 1 of the outside storage units (with a vent in the door ) to house it and if you can find a 4x4 retired ambulance even better and please remember remove all red emergency lights N sirens off the unit. you can turn the white lights into outside lights for when your sitting outside at night just wire them into switches but swap every bulb into LED (saves on power )
You definitely get more bang for your buck with lithium over lead-acid in the long run. I would add get LiFiPO4 lithium batteries. They're a little more expensive and they have a little less power for their weight then other lithium batteries. But that chemistry is absolutely non-flammable.
@@Erik-pr2rf Yep, 5 to 10 times longer life span than lead acid. And you can use 80%+ of the power (amp hours) in the battery per discharge as opposed to 50% with lead acid. And they're not nearly as affected by the cold. The only real down side is the initial price but they save you money in the long run.

I prefer vehicles with old BLACK oil. A clean oil indicates a mechanic has recently went over the engine. The mechanic can hide things that would show up on a vehicle that has driven a thousand miles plus since last mechanic maintenance.
I started to have cold starting problems about a week ago I put new battery's in yesterday and it fires right up good as new :) the ones in there came with it I'm surprised they worked at all I found a date marked on them 2012

By the way, what size diesel do you have and what kind of mileage do you get, also what speed is the transmission. You might have already addressed these questions in other videos that I’ve missed.
I have the 7.3 liter. Considered to be one of the best, most reliable engines ever produced. Good for 500k miles with regular maintenance. I average 13.5mpg on the road, loaded.
@@TheCampulanceMan that’s great mileage, I get 14-15mpg with my Suburban 5.3… considered getting a trailer to pull (7mpg) but for that price I could get an ambulance with storage/shelving galore, plus a self contained unit to live in (stealthy) while I’m traveling and producing art on the road, a whole new concept for me. Without fail; all that I spoke with recommended the Chevy 6.6L Duramax primary due to its mileage which they just said was significantly more than the Ford; specifically with regard to the shorter van body style type 3 body. However, Chevy stopped making these van bodies in 2013 or 2014. The good news is that these van bodies are becoming available now on the market.
I purchased a 2010 Chevy G3500 Express Cutaway (1 ton van body) that was made just before DEF was introduced. I just took a trip across the state of Iowa (northwest to southeast) and back last weekend as I’m learning the Ins and outs of the rig (approximately a 650 mile trip). I filled my 30 gallon tank once and still have over a 1/2 tank left; I saw an average mileage of a little over 17 mpg towing a motorcycle on a small trailer behind me with wind. I have seen close to 19 mpg with just the rig and my worst mileage was a trip to Arkansas last fall pulling a 20’ enclosed car hauler with a motorcycle and an ATV inside up and down the mountains at speed between 70 - 80 mph; I saw 11.6 mpg.
I don’t need to run my rig that hard and can drastically improve my mileage and increase the seat time on longer drives by slowing down to 65 - 70 mph (1800 - 2000 rpm). At 55 mph (1600 rpm) is where I see the best mileage, 19 mpg or a little better.
I’ve got a lot of power as noted by the previous towing statements and also noting that I had set my cruise control with tow/haul mode selected. My rig would actually downshift as it started running up the mountain and would then be passing semis as it actually maintained the set cruise speed. What I learned is that I will release the cruise control goin up the mountain so that my rig won’t down shift, rev so high, and go that fast. I don’t need to be passing semis going up a mountain... However, I will then re-engage my cruise control at the top of the mountain as I start to head back down. This is because with the tow/haul mode selected, it will hold my rig at speed and not allow for a run-away situation. Also, I’ve found that when tow/haul mode is selected I can just touch my brake pedal and it will automatically down shift my transmission, which helps to slow me down and saves my brakes.
I have a CDL and have driven semis for years, but this rig is a new bread all it’s own. It drives differently than cars, pickups, straight trucks, and semis. Although it has some similarities with a few of the aforementioned mentioned. The rig without tow/haul mode drives more like a car in that when I let off the accelerator it will coast and I will have to slow it with the brakes alone, but with tow/haul mode selected it will slow with the transmission if I touch the brake pedal and I can down shift through the six gears if needed simply by touching the brake pedal (but not actually apply the brakes). Basically I’m learning how the computer runs the engine and the transmission. I’m still in the shake down mode to find any minor issue before I take it on a longer trip and so that I feel comfortable taking it across the country after I build it out. I’m starting with the mechanicals and then the cab before I actually start the build (conversion to an RV) in the back (house). This also allows me more time to camp in it and to think about what my must haves are and how the layout...

Great video, great tips. One thing I like to do when I’m buying used vehicles is, to get someone to drive it, and I follow it. Look at wheels.Do they track straight? Any wobble? Look at tailpipe, any smoke? A lot of smoke? Stuff like that
also check the mounts on the Box to the frame make sure they are not rusting and look secure same goes with between the cab too ...

Will definitely be rewatching this video before I buy. This winter I will be traveling in my SUV to get a lay of the desert southwest to see if this is a commitment I really want to make. In my 20's and 30's I was nomadic by choice and never let the grass grow under my feet. Now that I am older I may find I would just rather stay put and grow a garden. Another great video, David! One thing I like to add (that I wished I knew about when it comes to diesel trucks) always check the engine hours indicator, a normal personal use diesel truck will get an average 35- 45 Miles/hr.
Do the math and compare the truck mileage with the "Engine On Hours" meter...Keep in mind, ambulances do a lot of idling in their service life (heating and air conditioning)
Diesel engines love running under loads, not at idle.

Hi David, kudos for your great video. We are former Roadtrek owners now seeking an ambo that is either converted, partially converted, or stock depending on condition/price. I’m learning more about diesels as well as ambos and your video was very organized and thorough, so a newbie can understand. I’m making a checklist based on your video for when we check out rigs. Also, we will never buy another rig site unseen. The Roadtrek was sold by a reputable (seeming) FB seller that had a following, so we bought it and had it shipped. Motor/transmission were great, but because it was low mileage and lived in Ohio then Michigan, it had surface rust and many leak points that were not disclosed. While we did make it work for a few years, we could have done much better by seeing rigs in person and not be so desperate to buy one remotely. Thanks again!

Tire date code is only on one side of the tire. So sometimes you have to climb under vehicle to see tire date code. Very good thing to look for!

Nice job, you nailed it. When I bought mine it didn't have the pass through, there was just the window (1999 Medtec) with a cabinet installed in the house just below it. I figured I'd remove the cabinet and small window and then have to do a lot of cutting/welding. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the doorway was in essence already there, I just had to remove two cross braces which didn't look structural at all but were only there to basically create a wall and window between the cab and house. Just mentioning this as some people get hung up on there not being a pass through, I don't know if they're all the same but it saved me a lot of work I thought I was going to have to do. I have a few pictures of what I did that I can send you if you want.

I couldn't have stumbled across a better video! I'm going to look at my first rig tomorrow morning! 95 ford 7.3 taking my son and my son in law (mechanic and semi driver respectively) . Being a 60 yr old woman not familiar with diesel engine wanted second & third opinions....never thought about taking a code reader great idea! There is a little area of rust on the DS rocker but this is Pennsylvania and an almost 30 year old rig....its got 70 k so not even broke in yet....rural area they are only getting rid of because they somehow got a grant or something and bought a 2024 and don't need 2! I saw it sitting out one day after hearing about them getting a new unit and ask what they were doing with it said they were selling it i asked how much they said 20k i said darn i only have 8k but call me when the price comes down to my level....called me this week said they sold the stretcher and would take 10k for it....say taking it for the ride and letting the boys look it over....i have managed to save up another 1k in the month and a half since this possible deal popped up at 20k...hope we can find something to get them down to 9 k or i might have to nudge the boys for a short term loan😃
I hope it's a good rig - remember, there are rigs of that age that are selling for $3-5k so you're well within your right to talk them down. Tell them to take the lights, sirens and flasher unit off to drop the price more too :)

Find a mechanic that'll do a vehicle inspection before you buy. It'll cost you some $ but it can be way cheaper than paying them to do repairs. And the piece of mind can be priceless.

Good advice all around. If you do not feel confident about inspections then just hire a mobile mechanic. They can do pre-purchase car inspections for around $75. I was once banned from a Toyota dealership because I would always find the issues and they would essentially loose on the sale. Showed up and they had called the cops on me for trespassing even though the client said he had hired me. Was funny! So anyway they lost that sale too.

Lots of great points. I would add, however, that while some diesels can go 500K miles plus without major failures a lot do not. Yes the 7.3 is robust but an ambulance gets hard use. I would highly recommend that those without mechanical knowledge and/or the will to work on their rig a lot go for a low mileage rig with low engine hours. Yes they will pay more but in the long run they may come out ahead. Especially newer rigs with a lot of pollution controls and the related electronics. They can be money pits. Like the old saying goes you can pay me now or pay me later.

Yeah, since the pandemic, I have noticed these things go for far more than pre-pandemic prices. RV sales are going through the roof and the word is out that ambulances are a good surrogate. But with that knowledge comes increased demand and sellers know they are in demand. Also, some engines are better than others. I have a 6.0 PSD and that is NOT as user friendly or as inherently reliable as a 7.3 PSD but I doubt I will have my ambo for more than 100,000 miles anyway to really care and it has plenty of power. There are the Duramax ambulances and rarer the Cummins but most ambos seem to be Ford PSD (in which case the 7.3 is the choice engine for the older ambos). There are tons of forums on which powerplant is the best and what to watch out for...

He makes a lot of good points when buying an ambulance. I looked at one and I got lucky. The rig ran good and everything but the lucky part about it was starting to pour down rain when we were driving it and the ceiling on the box water was just flooding with rain water. II couldn’t believe it. The problem was, I found where the antenna was on top of the box, the rubber seal rotted away
The man that owned i The ambulance he never knew that the rubber grommet where the antenna was had rotted away. David is giving a lot of great checkpoints if you’re in the market, you may want to write these checkpoints down so you have a list of them to go over

I didn’t see anything wrong with it just didn’t wanna deal with what I may fine if I bought it and start tearing things apart because he don’t even know how long it’s been leaking like that and it’s been sitting. So we bought a Ford transit and I’m doing all the work myself, so it’s gonna be quite a task.

Good points but you also need a good passenger seat in case Lefty goes for a ride with you.
We had a vacuum pump go out on are ambo. So will say to keep an eye out for that as well. Other wise it has been good to us so far. As time goes on I keep a tool box on the rig and some extra parts like cps sensor, belt, fuel filter and air filter as well.
Are you referring to the brake pump? Mine failed just as I was returning to camp with a new one in a box:)) Good idea carrying spares too!
@@TheCampulanceMan yes sir the brake vacuum pump. Just under the ac compressor on power stroke motor. Was easy to replace on the side of the road. Have never had one go out on me and did not think to replace it prior. Lesson learned and we made it home safe

Outstanding. Thank you for this info. I'll be looking at a rig in the next 6-12 months and know very little about diesels. I'm learning by reading what the good engines are, including the 7.3 which I know you're sold on. Engine repair expenses are what scare the crap out of me though.

When pulling the glow plugs out you have to be careful as it is very easy to snap them off.
I am probably going to ask my friend to help - he's a master tech at Lincoln and has always helped me with tough jobs :)
Had a 1999 F-350 Powerstroke 4 x 4 loved that truck. I replaced the idler pulley and the belt tensioner the batteries, all filters and all fluids. Then the "gentleman I was buying it from reniged on the deal.

Concerning Tire date, I've heard it recommended tires should not be driven on after they're 7 years old.
DOT tire codes for you , given your a dually...are less a concern. You have extra tire on each side for safety.
That is exactly my justification for leaving those rears on!! But it's time for them to be retired :))

if you go solar put 1500 watt to be above the game, especially if your boondocking .. away from power for days, and lithium ion batteries with a solar charging unit , use 1 of the outside storage units (with a vent in the door ) to house it and if you can find a 4x4 retired ambulance even better and please remember remove all red emergency lights N sirens off the unit. you can turn the white lights into outside lights for when your sitting outside at night just wire them into switches but swap every bulb into LED (saves on power )
You definitely get more bang for your buck with lithium over lead-acid in the long run. I would add get LiFiPO4 lithium batteries. They're a little more expensive and they have a little less power for their weight then other lithium batteries. But that chemistry is absolutely non-flammable.
@@infotoons212 plus you recharge lithium batteries more ... many people dont know that .and they r SAFER .....
@@Erik-pr2rf Yep, 5 to 10 times longer life span than lead acid. And you can use 80%+ of the power (amp hours) in the battery per discharge as opposed to 50% with lead acid. And they're not nearly as affected by the cold.
The only real down side is the initial price but they save you money in the long run.

I prefer vehicles with old BLACK oil. A clean oil indicates a mechanic has recently went over the engine. The mechanic can hide things that would show up on a vehicle that has driven a thousand miles plus since last mechanic maintenance.

By the way, what size diesel do you have and what kind of mileage do you get, also what speed is the transmission. You might have already addressed these questions in other videos that I’ve missed.
I have the 7.3 liter. Considered to be one of the best, most reliable engines ever produced. Good for 500k miles with regular maintenance. I average 13.5mpg on the road, loaded.
@@TheCampulanceMan that’s great mileage, I get 14-15mpg with my Suburban 5.3… considered getting a trailer to pull (7mpg) but for that price I could get an ambulance with storage/shelving galore, plus a self contained unit to live in (stealthy) while I’m traveling and producing art on the road, a whole new concept for me.
