About to receive the starter clutch after much research. Just noticed this and figuring it's not part of my issue. Cold start is fine, but whines and grinds a bit after a ride. Usually forced to push start if it doesn't rock back into place. Good luck everyone!
Would you happen to know where I can order the chain for this exact motor ? I have a 250cc wild fire quad and it has one of these motors on it everything is identical just ordered a starter for it as well
th-cam.com/video/xuJHco8aFvI/w-d-xo.html that's a link to a video I made replacing the starter 1 way starter clutch. It may just need cleaned, but I replaced it with a good used 1 and no more noise.
Taylor Kay Mine had a dislocated stator bearing.Innthe stator there's 3 roller bearing with these little springs about as small as springs in a ballpoint pen and 1 of those springs came dislodged making a bearing loose. That caused it to vibrate making the starter chain to vibrate. The roller bearings are hard to find, that's why I just bought a nice used stator and 1 way clutch on Ebay.
I'm sorry, I thought you said it was a Rebel 450. I've about completely restored my Cmx450 Everything I come across is Rebel 250. I thought things looked different.
In order to remove the starter you have to take off the left side cover because the starter chain will fall off. I would remove the left foot peg and shift lever. So you can get to all the left side cover bolts.

Thank you for the video. I'm troubleshooting a starter problem and you've really helped me get oriented.

You can get a used one on ebay. They very seldom wear down. Because all the starter chain does is turn the one way clutch then it stops.

Where did you get that chain for the starter

I have the same problem any chance you know the actual issue to stop that happening

I literally can not find my videos on how to replace a whole starter...

I changed it but i had an oil leakage after finishing it
Sounds like the seal is leaking behind the stator flywheel
Sounds like the starter clutch to me.
You may have had starter problems but that acts like a starter clutch replacement is needed.
