My starterclutch howls when start my rebel 250. Thanks to this video i've enough confidence to check it out myself... Probably a little cleaning. Maybe replacement... Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks also for your video! I thought it was a problem inside the starter. I found mine started after i often used to start it in gear with the clutch in, even when cold? But i believe in my case that it could have been more load than it was made to handle. From now on i will only start it in neutral!!
Those screws almost definitely require a JIS Japanese Industrial Standard bit to remove. I'm guessing they stripped out and were difficult to remove because you used a regular Phillips bit. They look very similar, but they have different profiles and the Phillips will almost always damage JIS screws.
Where did you get the replacement parts from, I ordered one off ebay, advertised as a fit for my 86 honda rebel, but when I went to put it on I realized it wasn't a fit
Also if anyone has any advice. The china made replacement part this guy has (I bought the same starter clutch replace.wnt). The screws heads don't fit flush on it. (Very close though). Would this mess up the starter clutch sprocket? On the oem part, where the screw goes in is slightly recessed so the screw head would sit flush. Thanks.
u need get a Hand Impact Screwdriver, Manual Reversible Impact Driver Includes 12-Piece Flathead, Phillips, Hex Bit Set, Disengage Rusted Fasteners or Frozen Bolts, Ideal Hand Tool
I did some research and the consensus is that it's a not a good idea. The gearbox is not strong enough with the amount of torque you have to put on it...
Hey man. I did this. The left crankcase oil seal started leaking. But it still is flush where it's supposed to be. No idea what's going on... Any ideas??? Help please anyone. Would fully removing the oil seal and reinserting help anything. I did hammer the flywheel puller tool which worked well, but I don't think that's causes the leak bc I was working on the bike for awhile after that before I took off the starer glitch sprocket. The leak seemed to happen immediately when I pulled off the starter clutch sprocket out from the crankcase a couple hours later. Pushing it in helped a bit but it's still too much :'(
Sorry to hear that! That is beyond my expertise unfortunately but it sounds like you should replace it before reassembly (or it will keep leaking). I would search TH-cam for some help on that topic - I bet there are videos out there! Good luck!
Thanks. I think I'm ok. I'd love your response though I had it just on the kickstand. Which leans a bit. The crankcase oil seal will slowly leak if leaned and starter sprocket pulled out. Just from the inner rim because oil is intended to travel through & lubricate the bronze bearing inside the starter clutch sprocket. That's why it has a oil seal on the outside of it. I was so confused bc I saw your video and others and never saw any oil coming out when that sprocket was pulled off the crank shaft. But from what I can tell, you have the bike more upright than I did and maybe that was why. Ive reassembled as it seems all good.

I like seen these videos but what gets me is they all use short extension with the sockets instead of using a longer one and everything is in the way and yhey dont use universal sockets and no pentrating oil if they used these things they would fo the job easier and theor ratchet would be further and wont hit anything and crack the bolt or nut spray with say WD 40 or your fav9 spray and us a battery drill with an adaptor and undo the bolts or nuts

I got mine from eBay too. I would double check if it was not a 450 (instead of 250) - I almost made that mistake when I ordered.
Tighten bolt a little bit into flywheel, hit flywheel with RUBBER mallet
Mine sounded like a broken tooth haven't checked it yet, might be the cause.
Maybe a vid of a carb rebuild?

If you have the bike in gear will it keep that thing from spinning when loosening the bolt? I don't have that vise grip chain tool

What'd you do for that tank? How'd you get it to stay in place?
I drilled the frame, tapped it and added couple of bolts and a spacer.
