Have you seen Peter Sadlo during the third movement of the 8th under Celibidache? He seems like he's rather enjoying it.
In the last note of the very last phrase, you can actually hear an overtone C5. It's hidden, but it's there (I found it by following the 1st trombone's B4). That's so cool!

from all I have heard, Bruckner is the first real heroic composer. Wagner is great but his music isn't exactly what we associate with heroic music. Bruckner's 8th is truly a heroic symphony.
That still has to go to Beethoven and the Eroica symphony.
Your pretty much alone with the idea that wagner didnt compose heroic music. So you might wanna stay away from saying things like "we associate" when formulating your opinion. It would be more fitting to say "I associate".

Intro, fourth movement, Bruckner 8!
Actually it's the recapitulation a bit later in that movement, the intro is very similar but doesn't reach that high climax.
The rich, choral sound contrasted against the raw, exciting power is why bruckner is one of my favorite composers, and trombone my favorite instrument.
The high B at 1:43 is so in tune, sounds amazing

As a German I like how the Anglo-Saxsons say Bruckner. We are rolling our R, like Till Lindemann from Rammstein, but with British tongues it sounds so much cleaner and more effortless. But when it comes to Messerschmitt, well that is another cup of tea.

Like many situations, the second trombonist on this sounds great, fills out the thirds of the chord beautifully.

Wow, those 18-21 year old kids who have not even finished college must be making an impact if these world class brass players who at the height of their careers are bring them up in your mind.
These guys seem to know their stuff a little... However, for us novice score-readers, um, clef signs would be nice. (Just for a piano play-along--otherwise, love it!)

Top part is in tenor clef, others are probably bass but the bottom part might be some other clef

Bottom two are bass, top two are tenor. You can see this at the octave Es at 1:47 ish.

Wagner tubas are totally another kind of an instrument - They are a derivative from the "French" horn, and as such they wouldn't as imposing and bolstering as trombones and ("true") tubas are.
@@TenorCantusFirmus while true you gotta keep in mind that that Wagner tubas can sound really loud and badass. Just look at the 4th movement of Bruckners 7th symphony. The sound is different from trombones but just like french horns they can be really loud and dominant.
@@NotBroihon Fact is also in the piercing, direct sound trombones are capable of: Wagner tubas wouldn't be the same thing also because of this.
