The cheaters & criminals already prosper in our world. Tdump already is that statement as he lived his entire life as a conman & business fraud & was able to become USP in 2016 through a technicality. Other nations have similar leaders like Vlad Putin or Netty Benyahu who both are actively trying to conquer neighboring lands as we speak.
All my youth I heard, how GREAT this nation would be, because of the genial invention of the "checks and balances". Where are those now? Where are the honorable people in politics?
Well, let's review...we have a president...he can do certain specific things...but he can't do all the things he'd like, because some things require the House and Senate.....Same with them....The Republicans have the House, but can't do that much because their majority is so narrow, and they don't have the remaining branches. Democrats have the Senate, but also have the same problem....narrow majority, and the other party controls-barely-the House. And the Supreme Court is firmly in the hands of actual Americans....for the moment...so they provide a trace of sanity and actual wisdom. I would say that the checks and balances are working....perhaps they're working TOO WELL to suit you... You're not supposed to be able to reconfigure the nation on a whim. You're supposed to have overwhelming support in order to make major changes. In today's climate, what are the odds of anyone getting that kind of support?
@@tgriffin3059 Nicely repeated from school classes. But does it work? Does it stop EVIL? Or does it cement it? You say, it "works" -- I say, it does the opposite of what it SHOULD DO.
It is… if Trump gets elected they are planning to centralize executive power, diminish our checks and balances making him a dictator. After that there is nothing keeping him from getting rid of term limits for government positions and installing Trump loyalists in every position. If that happens it will be the end of the US as we know it.
Dont feel too down. The US has been in a death spiral for the last century. The secret sauce is this: every country is typically in a death spiral except in very rare times of huge growth. We have held off the death for a century, if we dont let ourselves become numb to politics we will hold it off for another century yet.
I don't think people realize just how fragile things like democracy and society really are. All the laws, rules, and systems in place can't hold it together if the people themselves refuse to go along with it. It's tolerance that sustains everything.
Its only as strong of a system as you can make it. Especially when you give disproportionate power. Our "democracy" has always been weak intentionally aimed at empowering Democrats and Republicans(and Whigs federalists /anti-federalists) but not the voters who often go unheard. Democrats don't seem interested in progressives but won't give up the space that would also let Republicans as a party lose their power.
I honestly get extremely panicked thinking about Trump winning the election and life changing into something even more awful. I crave a time I didn’t have to worry or feel like this. I want things to be “normal”
I and many hate that thing so much because of the relationships we once had with family and friends will never be the same because of him . He may like the disfunction in his family but I for one hate what he has done to us. Im not looking forward to the holidays.
@What_do_I_Think yeah honestly, yeah, I think so, in my very honest heartfelt opinion, yes. Because the people that are abusing their power are largely elected people, say fuck the presidentcy if you have to. . . But go vote for everything else. . . Positions that are are elected elected every tiny part of our daily lives in ways a president couldn't dream of. If people simply voted every year, not just the presidential election year, we'd see major change. Judges, Sherifs, councilors, governors, state attorneys, ect. . . . Positions that could make much greater change, go vote for them. . . .
What country just accepts, that the whole system is just destroyed by one group and does not take action? Where are the handcuffs? When will the perpetrators (most are well known for a while!) be put in JAIL? I never heard of such a country, before I heard of the US.
There is a (justified) fear of crazy trump supporters. Everyone has been too scared to rile them up into starting a civil war but they're gonna do it anyway. This is what they want. They cannot coexist - they want to take their country back. Democrats have always been "compromising" by just giving republicans what they want. Theyve been gerrymandering and restricting voting access for years. Trump's cult-like sway over millions of people just moved up the timeline. This was inevitable.
I have three words: FOLLOW THE MONEY. Those that contribute these large amounts to politicians’ campaigns are very clear as to what the candidates they pay for need to do if they want to continue to hold office.
I saw an ad on IG for a shirt that had the Unabomber police sketch and the caption said “Vote by mail”. Its the kind of thing that-as an Iraq combat vet who witnessed VBID attacks at polling stations-really concerns me.
I live in PA... in a red rural area... When I was a registered Dem it was difficult to get my mail-in and I almost wasn't able to send it in on time... My wife and I registered as Rep a few years ago and this time we got our ballots early and already sent them in last week. If you live in a rural area and you're NOT a fascist... register as a Republican so that it's harder for them to discriminate against you.
The downside of this though is some areas will only let you vote based on what party you register with (my experience in Texas was if you're registered with one party, showing up to vote on the day you are only shown options to vote for your party, there is no write in on the machines- it's just a multiple choice selection and since democrats don't seem to contest the republican incumbents a lot of the time, there is no option to vote for anyone and the republican is assured the win because they have no competition)
@@iamsocoolz If you are talking about local elections then yes... BUT if you are in a solidly red area where your Dem vote isn't going to do anything, then there's no loss. My wife and I could only vote for the Republicans in the local election yes, but we were also able to vote for relatively stable people over the QAnon people that claimed that the moon landing was faked and that the Earth is flat (I wish I was joking about that). Your vote absolutely DOES MATTER, and you absolutely SHOULD VOTE! The way I see it, with 20 (or is it 21 now?) And seeing that PA's electors go to the winner of the state's popular vote, then I'd say that actually, your vote matters A LOT. I won't tell you who you should vote for, but please vote..... We could also see Trump "winning" then being removed one way or another to make room for Vance.
That would be true if Congress stays at nearly 50/50 like it is now. If there’s a “blue wave,” good things could happen. 🙂 But if there’s a “red wave,” bad things - _really_ bad things - could happen.
They would definitely replace Trump with Vance, the true fascist. Trump is horrible, but he is motivated by greed and vanity. I could be wrong, but weren't the few cases of election fraud from 2020 committed by Republicans? And not totally related, but I recently made the comment you make that the is election really just decided by 20,000 random people in a county nobody is ever going to go to. But I made that comment to a friend who is honestly probably one of the most moderate people I know and it pissed him off! The counter argument back was that I was an elitist for thinking that the opinion of those people in that county shouldn't matter in an election. Like completely missed the point of the argument and then flipped it backwards to think he was reaching this intelligent "gotcha" moment with me! And, unfortunately, that is probably going to be a counter argument shared often by people who are misguided in their understanding of why the Electoral College is such undemocratic BS
Well, don't forget about those FORGED electoral college certificates the ex LIAR-IN-CHIEF conjured up. I think he had spread so many lies about "democrats stealing the election" that some of his supporters were trying to "offset the cheating" and took it upon themselves to try to "level the field", so to speak. But you're absolutely correct. I only heard of 2 instances of fraudulent ballots turned in by democrat voters. Both were unintentional.
Anyone who claims to be a moderate because they see themselves as being between the democrats and republicans is just conservative. The mid point between a center right party and an extreme right party isn't a moderate.
@@YasugoLiehu Yeah I was in high school. I always forget that it was the Bush administration that got it to go to the Supreme Court, because I seem to recall the media at the time making it sound like it was Gore who was being the big baby by dragging the recounts out -- even though later analysis show that he probably would have won the state if they were allowed to happen. And even then, it was the Bush campaign that had ballots tossed for hanging chads, which I'm sure today would be called "illegally cast ballots done by migrants unfamiliar with American hole punchers"
The best thing democrats could do is push for the abolition of the electoral college. Make voting easier, simpler, faster. That way younger people in states like California have sway again and if voting doesn't take hours out of your day to do, it could guarantee that Republicans have an even harder time getting in in the future.
Exactly if everyone had their votes equal, the same Republicans would scarcely win because they are incredibly unpopular. It's partially true also with ranked choice voting, which would actually make it possible for a third party to exist (ones that aren't impotent)
But what happens if he wins both the electoral college and popular vote. He's doing much better than in both years he ran especially with minorities. I'm worried that this talk of him stealing the election is blinding us to the fact that Kamala Harris is in serious trouble.
@@vulcanfelineTrump didn't shock the Republican party into following his lead. They have been turning into less and less of a principled party since they began courting evangelicals in the 1970s and chose Ronald Reagan (an actual politician as California governor, but predominantly an asshole and actor) to symbolically lead their charge at nullifying the New Deal political order in the 1980s. By the time of the Tea Party in the 2010s and the conduct of the GOP during the Obama era, the steps were already assembled and carpeted for Trump to climb. In Canada, you're automatically registered to vote just by ticking a box on your tax return. You don't have to register yourself to vote, and voters' lists are accurately maintained by an independent government agency beyond the reach of cheap politicians. A system like Canada's would be nice to have in the USA.
I think they would change in California to ranked choice but other big states will not do it. So they need to stay at winner take all. Republicans by and large get elected by scaring people. And by making sure this hard to vote for democrats like Texas and Florida does
@@Cotelw8345 I understand what you are saying, but the National Popular vote takes the "winner take all" to a higher level of voters. If a single county in a swing state can tip the election, then why continue to let that happen? If enough states equaling 270 or greater agree to winner take all, then you've got an election by more voices. Phase 2, once enough states agree to this winner take all, they become the "swing" states and it would only make sense for the entire country to go full popular vote.

It doesn't matter if a third party doesn't win or is a "throw away" vote. If enough of us vote third party, that's a clear message to both parties they need to change their policies to get more voters. That's the point.
Third party isn't going to be viable until we get more in local elections. Forget "sending a message". It isn't going to send anything right now. I desperately want more options, but I know that I can't make that an option from the top down. Change has to start at the foundation.

Because we gotta get people to vote 🤦♀️ it's a painful cycle
Checks and balances... for democrats.
Checks and Balances except for the president-appointed supreme court because fuck the citizens apparently.

It is… if Trump gets elected they are planning to centralize executive power, diminish our checks and balances making him a dictator.
After that there is nothing keeping him from getting rid of term limits for government positions and installing Trump loyalists in every position.
If that happens it will be the end of the US as we know it.

Democrats love death and misery. They hate happiness.

But you're absolutely correct. I only heard of 2 instances of fraudulent ballots turned in by democrat voters. Both were unintentional.

I'm worried that this talk of him stealing the election is blinding us to the fact that Kamala Harris is in serious trouble.

so excited to watch!! i can’t believe the election is so fucking soon already
Soul less ghoul lawyers should be a new title awarded to lawyers who files these frivolous lawsuits.
Been waiting for this one.
I’m so, so scared. Many people will die by suicide if he wins again…
He will not be President again.
If it helps, I am too. Trump and his base are fucked in the head.
I mean.. I do plan to.
I don’t want to live through the ruin of democracy and my safety gone as a lgbt woman.
I just hope people don't cry when Harris loses because since 2016 it's hurting Democrats electability to this very day. Even after January 6th people still think the left are sore losers.
@@Riu-bw4blthat's fair. I plan to try to go to another country but honestly I don't think there's any way I will have enough money so idk what to do
Your channeling-exhaustion-through-sarcasm is always refreshing, Leeja
I follow people in Appalachia who are saying they do feel like they’re getting a good response from rescue workers from local and national levels
If you're gonna cheat at a poker game, the best way to cover it up is to accuse another player of cheating.
Thank you, Leeja, for all you do.
Vote guys!! 💙🌊🗳
I'm voting early in NC!! I suggest everyone do the same!!
Another great video! And today I learned that "genocide" is a no-no word on TH-cam. Amazing.
Are democrats filing counter suits on each of these filings?
Thankfully there is. I was waiting for mention for Marc Ellias's legal company and there are references in the text shown at the end of the video but I would give him a shoutout.
Basically where RNC is, Marc is not far behind throwing an opposition to their plans to limit voting rights. His team of lawyers have been named as "one of the biggest thorns on the election laws" by the Trump team. He does youtube videos laying out what they are doing and raising awareness of these lawsuits and I recommend checking him out. He knows what he is talking about.
Only a portion of them.
God help us all. Vote 💙🇺🇲💙!!!!!!
SAVE US LEEJA
Thank you so much leeja for emphasizing that the time to change the two-party system is not every 4 years during a general election!
VOTE on election day, you can slack off at the beach later.
I already voted, as I'll be out of the country during the election. And I've made arrangements for a possible extended leave. 🤣
Why not be sensible and use early voting?
Not everyone has the luxury of being able to take off enough time that particular day. Who are you to tell people what to do? Do you go to the beach a lot in ROEvember?
Harris-Walz 2024
💙🩵💙🩵💙
We are NOT going back!!!
I am usually at the beach on election day but only after safely voting early at my county clerk's office. This year I am kind of afraid to be that far from home though. Not sure what I will do yet.
& exactly why aren't lawyers fined heavily for frivolous lawsuits?
Leeja you are awesome, thank you for this one !!!!
I'm one county over from Butler Pennsylvania and have volunteered to work the polls for the last 6 years and have not been contacted once to help, even though they keep saying they need poll workers desperately. I wonder what it is that would stop my deeply red county from asking me to help out at the polls??????
Yuhhh
Maine leading by example 💪🏼
Fun fact: in my country we criticize our elected representatives continuously AFTER they were elected. In America you criticize your candidates only until they're elected, after that you leave them alone, barely remembering who you voted for...
we need to be talking about this more
Thank you for feeling my inner rage over JillStein popping up again like she does every 4 years
She's as useful as a case of herpes.
Those naïve "idealists" who voted for her are largely responsible for giving us Trump in 2016, which led to the current situation and a very possible destruction of American society. We warned them of that, but they wouldn't listen.
I will never forget them.
Hi Leeja! I hope Mary Trump Media reaches out to you! If at least to do a collab, or to invite you to join the Nerd Avengers!💙💙💙⚖️
This is what circling the drain feels like. Had to end sometime, that's the basic principle of thermodynamics: entropy.
Our poor education system brought all of this on.
It depends on where you live. Democratic run states always rate higher for education. Republicans benefit by keeping their constituents uneducated. That's how they get votes
It’s by design. Knowledge is the greatest threat to authoritarian regimes (and wannabe authoritarian regimes) and keeping our education system broken will help keep people stupid and controlled.
Vote
Education can not help the willfully ignorant.
It's crazy how many Lawyers seem to choose evil.
Oregonians, vote yes on 117 for ranked choice voting!
I would preferred STAR Voting, but since that initiative didn’t get the required number of petition signatures I’ll support RCV instead.
Journalism is 100% your calling. Love your videos!
I am for her as a justice on SCOTUS. At least she is honest and thoughtful and actually believes in the law.
Ok, but "organize" Isn't an actionable plan.
Pardon my wording, but "organize" really is "a concept of a plan."
My parents, grandma and I live abroad and we all mobilized ourselves and already voted yesterday 💪
And once again we can thank the GOP and Admiral Rayguns for the "winner take all" way of handing out electors. Originally all states handed out electoral votes proportionally, but when some of the GOP states wanted to be "the state that put Reagan over the top", they started moving all the states to winner take all...
I am so tired of living in a constant game of capture the flag
Leeja, I'm begging you (not seriously but I love the drama) to dive into the concept of "Phantasms" PhilosophyTube does a video about it in the videos "Why we can't build better cities" and "the most controversial philosopher in the world". I think those are the video names. But I swear to God, the whole right wing lives in a darn phantasm.
I live is Butler county PA and it’s sad to say that it’s very likely that the county will go red, meaning my vote won’t really matter. I will still vote anyway in the hopes to sway the vote within the county
Idk if you can but I’d really like to see you do a vid about the hurricane and how poorly the mostly republican georgia government has done. I live here and it’s truly so devastating how little support or info we are given here
Literally here where I live in Augusta they have no power almost anywhere and have cut water or are telling people to boil water with the no electricity we have, theres no gas yet any supply spots are far out from most places leaving most with nothing
Wish I could vote but I can't even file my taxes because my existence is repeatedly questioned for some reason
Just like they did from Modale in the 80's in Florida when Jeb Bush was governor
I am in Georgia, and my anxiety is not assuaged.
I am sorry I hate the electoral college . I am not stupid...
Flip the table!! Flip the table!!!!
Doesn't have to be that nice one.. just flip A table and then yell "For the CHILDREN!" :D
It's wild what Type A personalities do when they vote Republican and lose.
The Republican litigation concerning those PA ballot challenges was thrown out late last week. The PA supreme court ruled it was too close to election day. And just today i recieved notice that my mail ballot is on the way. Vote blue people. 💙
Who pays the legal costs when they lose their claims?
I’m sure the bill never gets paid
We the taxpayers
That's the fun thing! The lawsuits also double as a convenient excuse to send out more fundraising emails to Trump supporters! Its a grift!
Wish they took that same interest in paying legit taxes for the higher tax brackets 🤑
If what you are saying is true then this issue won't go away after the election or the next election or the one after that.
We need to get rid of the electoral college. Modern technology supports the popular vote.
I live in Montgomery County, PA. It's a battleground county in a battleground state and it is quite crazy here!
I first saw this kind of bad faith coming from the Republican Party in the year 2000.
Absolutely! I can remember Trump saying, a good two months before the election, “the only way the Democrats can win is by cheating.” I knew then if Trump lost, there would be chaos afterwards.
The clarity that you provide in your videos is amazing. Even when it's nightmare fuel.
I love you Leeja, but the line about people being flooded out are the ones voting for the backwards policies is very hurtful. I’m in North Carolina and just west of where I live whole towns are literally gone from the recent flooding. Not all of those people voted red. None of those people deserved it. I know you like getting snarky, but this didn’t land.
I agree, but I think she just meant that it is insane that people would vote for something that will kill them, their friends, and their family. That said it is rude to make a joke on such a serious situation.
@@reyla5645 I understand for sure. I understand the frustration and the impulse to poke fun at the “leopards ate my face” situation that folks vote themselves into. I just wanted to bring attention to the comment so we can all be more compassionate people.
Why isn't he serving time at Riker's again? Inquiring minds want to know why he's not drinking toilet wine while his roommate lights his mattress on fire...
