    For the amount of taxes they are getting for that house, you would think that they could fix the damn street right outside it.

      Here in new orleans all the streets are like that, the city is built on what was once a swamp. So the streets are constantly caving in, the city will fix the bad holes once a year but within a few months they're back to their bad state.

      @@TheKid12363 Here in NYC we have the same pattern. 🤣 City fills them up once a year and then it's back to crap again. Then, we have the utililities companies dig up the road to fix stuff and leave it in bad condition. With holds line up and drains in the road. Bad situation.

    I absolutely love this House! If only it were in a different location in the Country somewhere. I would have a long drive way with Trees on both sides, and a fountain in the middle of a circular driveway. A pool in the back yard with a guest house, also a 3 car garage. I mean, as long as we are dreaming! lol

      Yeah right! They were drafty and expensive to own! And the craftsmanship for most part is gone! These were a rich man's home! I once worked as a locksmith! I got a call to fix the locks on the front door of an old home! God the front would defy a battering ram! All that was wrong was some screws were loose and the front door lock needed some oil! The house looked like the nineteen twenties! The pool was the newest thing in the house. And the people liked living in this old house! It was old and dark! Everyone to their own!

    This is my favourite video of all time! I love the estate agent's descriptions of the house and the way the two guys talk in general about the house. The house is the best I've seen on TH-cam. The atmosphere of this house is conveyed so well in this video. This is the perfect house. Better than any $20,000,000 mansion. The Garden District reminds me of Holland Park in London. Imagine lying by that pool in Spring and looking up at that beautiful tree in the garden.

    I love how the fluted Corinthian columns of the front porch are repeated at the door and then on the fireplace and in the bar. Sometimes Victoriana historic references can be too eclectic and overpowering, but here all the historic elements are in keeping with each other. This is a precious piece of history yet makes for a fully functional and surprisingly cosy modern family home.

    I’m not crying .. ok seriously almost underpriced. Like Jacob said you can’t by those old trees or the perfect setting so really this house has it all. Fantastic job on the filming. Most forget to give you the view out the windows and don’t realize how much that draws the viewer into the home. Best restoration I’ve since in a very long time.

    Breathtaking! Absolutely my style. I have a Queen Anne too and my contemporary art and furniture work perfectly. Personally, I love an older home, but don't want to live in a museum or grandma's house. That style of decor just wouldn't be me. Have to laugh at the price difference. Here in small-town Indiana, I paid about 2.5 million less for roughly the same amount of space on a corner lot. Happy New Year!

    Love how they opened up the 3rd floor to bring in more height and light into the 2nd floor family room. They didn't state whether the fireplaces are usable or merely decorative. I would like to see the basement as well - wondering what the ceiling height would be down there and whether the floor is poured/solid or compacted earth (given the age of the home). Would have been nice to have more grass and garden area in the side/back yard vs all the hard surfacing, especially if one has young children. Legally, I think the pool should have a safety fence of sorts surrounding it. I do love all the different porches and balconies. Not sure if the 2nd floor wrap-around verandah is built to handle a lot of people/weight. The 3 separate HVAC systems for each floor must have cost a fortune. Love the original stained glass. The closet space is amazing. The only thing that seems to be missing is an entryway coat closet. Also, there's no garage or outdoor storage for lawn/garden/pool items. Overall, a beautiful home that shows very well.

  • @beckyevepete

    It's beautiful. That said, I have a difficult time with "restorations" that paint all the woodwork white! The homes from this era had beautiful woodwork. I realize painting everything white has been popular for a while. In Queen Anne, Victorian, Renaissance Revival homes they generally had rich colors and woods, such as mahogany that make things like turnings, carving, all the exceptional craftsmanship stand out. Gives it character!! Personally I'd like to see it more as it was originally.

    • @Shrinksjp
      @Shrinksjp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree. Better furnishings. more color, and at least some more authentic woodwork to fit the period of the home. At least this home is attractive. There are some Victorians that when you step inside everything is stark modern and completely fights the architecture of the home. If you want a modern home, why would you buy a Victorian. The most famous Victorian Painted Ladies in SF on the famous Postcard Row was bought and completely modernized inside with all Home Depot materials! I don't understand that.

    • @Jeanette3
      @Jeanette3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts exactly! The white just totally washes out the beautiful dark woods that were probably originally there. Takes away from the beautiful woodwork that would’ve been there.

      Having helped my parents salvage, strip and restain probably half a mile of old woodwork and 2000 sq ft of oak flooring for the house they were building in the 80s, I can attest that it's a ton of labor. If this house didn't originally have painted trim (some did) I'd guess this restoration was done by someone more interested in the potential sales profit than a sympathetic restoration.

      Yes I immediately thought of Ms.Rice’s book The Witching Hour............this is a regal beauty indeed! The only flaw is the complete lack of privacy in the pool area and backyard with other homes looming over it on every side......a lot of money for little yard privacy. More land, more acreage would be perfect! Also the master closets are too small. It is beautiful however.

    At the risk of being pedantic , Queen Anne period houses and Victorian period houses are not only separated by many decades , but are quite different in style. But I guess to your average American , anything over 100 years is super old , but to us English , its actually fairly standard !!! 😂

    "Very well chosen" indeed! It takes a well studied and sensitive mind for the architecture and design of antique homes to accomplish a complete contemporary re-do like that which this home has received where the end result is a timeless, quality, tasteful enhancement of the original. That has been accomplished here MOST astutely. VERY impressive. I most especially loved the ultra slick and brilliantly scaled DR chandelier. Gorgeous. *Ditch the dead donkey* Subbed for hopefully MOAR fabulous antique home tours!

      New Orleans is an OLD city in American terms , this house is in an older richer established neighborhood in the city so ,the charm and history is what drives the price up ...also the amount of wood used in this is amazing ,although some people prefer it to stay unpainted/modernized ...NOLA is also a city that it is not easy to expand into bigger lots because of the river/swamp geography so the ground space and the mature trees are so coveted ....it has and has always had much of the same charm as Paris ..where you have wealth and poverty just a short distance from each other ...this same home in Northern California would be about 18 Million and the owner would buy his neighbors house next door at first available opportunity and tear it down combine the properties to add a garage and bigger swimming pool or guest house ...I love the UK and its history too
