So many people in this comment section seem to have comprehension problems…she’s not trying to scare people away from getting pregnant. She’s saying issues that a woman may *already* have but would normally remain hidden for many decades, show themselves or their symptoms during pregnancy. She’s literally saying pregnancy is one way to get clues on health/cardiovascular problems you may have when older due to already existing health issues-she’s not saying pregnancy is what will *cause* them
And she is not trying to push propaganda on not to bear children. I don't understand how so many believe she has a hidden agenda to convince women to not have children. 🤷🏻♀️
Incredible how very important talk about womens health is still getting comments like “whatever, women’s function is to make babies, shut up and get pregnant”
When women speak up about their health, they're treated like they're disposable and it's their "responsibility" to suffer for the sake of having kids. This is why many suffer in silence. Some women might be OK with the life-altering choice of having babies but those who don't want to get pregnant shouldn't be treated like they're "selfish" for not wanting that lifestyle.
This was such a fantastic talk. Meryam raised so many fascinating issues that are unique to women which most women go their whole life not knowing. Thank you for such a thought provoking talk!
I vomited for 2,5 months, had stress during my pregnancy, enormous weight gain, lost a lot of blood and pelvicproblems. I lost all the weight right afterwards. Now 20 years later I have very high cholesterol and Lichen Sclerosus. My thyroid levels are changing more rapidly than they should according to my age. So in my case I cant deny what she is saying.
This video is a fantastic resource for expectant mothers and anyone interested in women's health. As a life coach, I often work with clients to prioritize their physical and emotional wellbeing, and pregnancy is such a critical time to do so. By making conscious choices about nutrition, exercise, and stress management during pregnancy, women can lay the foundation for a healthy and fulfilling life. Thank you for sharing this valuable information and for raising awareness about the importance of taking care of ourselves during pregnancy and beyond. *I'm really happy to see that someone have same passion like me because I'm also making this type of videos to make your life productive and meaningful*
With both my pregnancies I had Pregnancy Induced Hypertension and bed rest. The doctors at the time told me that though I normally had low blood pressure (that returned after delivery) that I was at risk for hypertension and complications as I got older. This is interesting and it makes sense to me that some complications could be an indicator of future problems. Thanks for the heads up.
One of the reasons why I choose not to have kids is because of health issues. I've been happy and healthy throughout my life and don't want to mess with that. Almost everyone I know who has had children have health issues due to it including depression, autoimmune and thyroid problems, back issues, etc. This isn't talked about enough and women suffer in silence about it.

I had severe pre eclampsia with my last pregnancy and had placenta abruption now I’m in my 50’s for last 10 yrs had high blood pressure so this was interesting
It was interesting but what about women that use the pill for a long period of time?. The pill also affect the risk of cardiovascular complications with or without pregnancies.
I feel like this wasn’t entirely clear. Was this just a call for more data analysis of pregnancy complications? That’s a good thing of course, but it felt unnecessarily unfocused to me.
@Covyn it was pretty clear to me. 1) there needs to be more studies on the issue. And 2) doctors -pcps - need to communicate with their patients who have had complications during pregnancy so that they can use preventative medicine and track if any diseases come up later in life.
Interesting, I had obstetric cholestasis with 4 pregnancies (3 single, 1 twin). Essentially my liver acted up during all of my pregnancies. One of my kids died of liver cancer. I wonder if me and my kids should be screened for liver cancer. Never had problems with blood pressure, weight, gestational diabetes or anything like that. Had my first at 23 and last (my twins) at 42. Usually we're very healthy. My mother is still playing sports in her 60s. Her mother still goes out every day in her 90s and physically active. Her mother lived into her 100s as did her mother. But we've all had obstetric cholestasis.
Perhaps mothers have increased risk for health issues post babies because they can't take good care of themselves while managing children? My ability to cook balanced and healthy meals, regularly exercise, get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, and take care of myself mentally is basically non-existent compared to my pre-baby self. There just isn't enough time or support to accomplish it all!!
So does food you eat and your thoughts can lead to these diseases my husband and I have had kids but on both our families have no kids on both sides and they have chronic disease thyroid overactive respiratory etc so this theory i dont buy entirely

This... wasn't a talk discouraging anyone from having children. She's just saying women are collecting data on their long-term health during pregnancy and our health system fails to exploit that data. Pregnancy is the canary in the coal mine and we get individualized data for women that can tell us what they should be focusing on in their health concerns.
I would definitely not call birth the single most dangerous thing that happens in our life, it’s not without risk but we do a lot more dangerous things on a daily basis
Why is she only talking about the negative changes only? There are plethora of other physiological advantages of pregnancy as well. This is just a propaganda to deter women from giving birth so that they can adopt more cats and pretend those animals are worth more than having a babe. I understand not all women are able to have kids and not all pregnancies are helpful to the mother's overall health. All these should be investigated during antenatal care. But exaggerating to ward off women from having kids is no brainer for me. It's one of the many deceptive ideology running the existial postmodernism
Well... whit abortion being ilegal,i think this ted talk is really important. The amount of women on drugs and alcoholism is scary. But your right, pregnancy actually healed me on some ways.
@@jjay9909 out of the manya things that can kill a woman, complications from pregnancy is one of the least. Awful to talk about the pregnancy as a big problem. This talk is just to scare women who don't have kids yet! Completely non-objective and one-sided opinion.
Disagree, more needs to be done sooner and earlier. The placenta is critical to the health of the fetus and the pregnant woman. In the USA > 50% of women start their pregnancy overweight or obese, with notable health concerns. A woman's health most certainly will impact the health of her pregnancy, the baby and her future health. I agree with this physician, women would benefit from improving their health before pregnancy AND having earlier health checkups. The USA maternal morbidity and mortality is twice that of other developing countries.
@@TH-eb7ob exactly, people don't talk about risks enough.
