What are some key rivalries you'd like to see in the new. new Big 12?

@@gregnelson1330 That would be a loaded schedule. I think the time for Gonzaga and UConn to join the conference has passed.
If West Virginia ever rehires Rich Rod, Arizona vs West Virginia would be a great rival.
Is that even a possibility? That would be entertaining though.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu TCU, BU, OSU are all 4.5-5.5 hours away and have a ton of history with Tech. ASU is 800 miles and a time zone away. Listen to your buddy Clint he sounds like he knows what's up with TX and OK schools. Happy 4th.
Uh, that's what we did. It's exactly why I had him on. My point is, it seems like there's a chance for new rivalries to form that also have some history going way back.

I knew all Texas schools had rivalries, but I'm surprised I didn't know just how big the rivalry between TT and TCU is.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu Not sure how this would shake things up, but I would throw an Arizona/OkSt rivalry into consideration. It's been a while, but I don't think it would take much for Arizona fans to remember Justin Blackmon in the Alamo Bowl and Arizona's revenge at home two years later.

OK St probably wouldn't mind doing Houston. Then Kansas and Houston could be paired, which works perfectly for basketball.
TCU or Baylor vs ASU, the Heaven and Hell Game. In the future Texas Tech vs Virginia Tech in the Tech-mo Bowl
I love both of those. Or maybe BYU and ASU. We'll have to do a new one if/when we pick up ACC schools.
If VA Tech comes in, the rivalry will definitely be with WVU (we already have the Black Diamond Trophy rivalry - currently sitting in OUR house!). And of course pITT

Houston : Arizona & Tech
Arizona would be great because if basketball. The games with TT in recent years have been fun, so I like that one too.
Neil Armstrong taught at Cincinnati so you could have the Astronaut Trophy shared by the best record between UC, UH, and UCF.
I like it, but it would piss off UCF, which only makes me like it more.

I do think TT and Houston could be a fun rivalry.
Arizona -ISU would be a great new rivalry. Polar opposites in many ways, but same level in football & basketball.

ASU-ISU would be better. Both are state universities and have a type of wind storm as a mascot

OSU v Houston doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but considering it was by default because it was the last option left, you did a pretty good job.

Arizona State vs BYU has great rivalry potential. Theres a big LDS community in Mesa AZ who attend ASU. Could be a mini holy war match up

Texas tech vs Cincinnati could be cool rivalry if Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce publicly talk trash leading up to the game

Cincinnati - UCF, Iowa State, West Virginia
Colorado - Arizona, Kansas State, Utah
Houston - Baylor, UCF, Texas Tech
Iowa State - Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State
Kansas - Arizona, Iowa State, Kansas State
Kansas State - Colorado, Kansas, Iowa State
Oklahoma State - West Virginia, TCU, Texas Tech
TCU - Baylor, BYU, Oklahoma State
Texas Tech - Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma State
Utah - Arizona State, BYU, Colorado

Rivalries I think it makes sense, and regionalism to make the games more fun.
Solid. Not so far off from what we came up with and not a single one I couldn't get behind.
I know this is for fun, but I have to say that assigning rivalries is a sure way to guarantee the rivalry won't stick.
If a rivalry isn't organic, and personal, it's just a manufactured farce for marketing purposes.
Agreed. There are plenty of examples of this failing (Utah- Colorado) for one. Like you said this is just for fun, but also it would be fun to face some teams more regularly to help encourage rivalries. I'm hoping some unexpected rivalries for organically.
If you were to ask anybody in Manhattan, the majority of them will say Kansas. The reason the Iowa State game has become very entertaining was the results and the up-and down games that the two teams always had.
Plus the two teams usually play every year at the end of the regular season. And Twitter banter. Who doesn’t love Twitter banter!
Thanks for chiming in. That's what I would assume, but with Farmageddon and the Border War being more well known games, I wasn't sure.
I’m glad that you paired Cincinnati with one of the Texas schools because someone is going to outright insult Cincinnati Chili and the rivalry will be on. West Virginia is going to be a rivalry game by proximity. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, I think their top rivalries are actually Xavier and the University of Kentucky.
36:35 Louisville would be an instant rivalry for Cincinnati.
Cincy and Louisville would be great. I think it's funny how WVU is so indifferent towards Cincy when all they've wanted is to have a regional rival for so long. We'll need Cincy to be competitive in those games though to help it pick up.

As a WVU fan, I actually like the idea of the John Denver Mountain bowl between WVU and Colorado. I think it could be fun.
It would be fun to add TT to the mix since John Denver went to school there.
For Colorado:
K-State - old time Big 8 hatred
Ok State - old time mutual respect
UCF - Black and Gold
Colorado was one of the toughest because it works well with so many teams. I like these.

ASU: Arizona, Utah, Texas Tech
Arizona: ASU, BYU, Kansas
I like it. I think ASU-TT has real potential, but I deferred to the Texan on that one.
Texas Tech is a much better fit with Arizona
For Iowa State, my thoughts not all of the fan base. We hate Kansas (mainly basketball), we respect OSU(mainly football and wrestling). Kansas probably dislikes ISU because we take their Big 12 Tournaments, but idk that they hate us. OSU I think has the same respect, but I could see they maybe see us as a little brother. OSU has a long history, ISU has bee moving up the ranks the past 30yrs especially the past 7-8yrs with Coach Campbell consistently getting into the top 50 and even pushing into the top 10 once. KSU is kinda new didn't grow up with this rivalry (maybe I did but just didn't realize it, so was it really a rivalry?) In the past 2-3yrs it's really picked up
Thanks for the insights. I love getting each fan base's perspective on this, especially as we're still new to the conference. Feels like in basketball BYU and ISU was setting the stage for a potentially fun new rivalry.
You guys did a really good job with Texas Tech. Y'all were correct with their top three, and y'all were considering Arizona and Houston. As a Texas Tech fan I am excited to rekindle the Arizona rivalry from the border conference. Our best p5 all time matchup ratio is with Arizona. We own the series something like 25 to 5. With regards to Houston we definitely love to pound on Houston. It's not quite the same level of animosity as we have for school like Texas, but it's a school we feel like we're better than and certainly enjoy to remind them of their place in the world.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu maybe it’s just because ASU has less overall relevance, but I cannot get quite as stoked about them right now. We will see as the new conference develops that definitely change. Texas Tech and Arizona State do you have a lot of similarities that could create a rivalry if they were good and we were good.
The only problem with the Houston rivalry is there’s just no one to return fire on the Houston side. That was one thing that made our Texas and Texas A&M rivalries fine. Was that the other fan that was there and ready to mix it up. Whenever we try to start beef with Houston, there’s really no one to fight with , so that may be why it hasn’t developed quite as much
Rivalries can't be forced. It'll come with time. It's interesting you say that about Houston. It could just be my account, but I don't see any Houston fans on Twitter.

Miami, Duke, NCST & Louisville
I'm in Virginia, so I prefer VT over Duke. But having Duke BB would be an awesome addition to the best BB conference.
Duke would never join and as a West Virginia fan, Pitt or Virginia Tech would be better for the conference for the rivalry games between West Virginia. To have either the backyard brawl or the black diamond trophy game in conference would be a great addition. Football schools > basketball schools.

Colorado should be TCU(especially after last year), Utah and K state.
Utah should be Colorado, BYU and OK state.BYU should be Utah, TCU and Arizona St. ASU should be Arizona, BYU and WVU (comments from coaches). KState should be Kansas, Colorado, OSU. OSU should be KState, Utah(because they are top Dawgs) and Tech. Tech should be TCU, baylor and OSU. TCU should be Tech, BYU and Colorado. The rest doesn't matter.

I could see TCU and Colorado naturally turning into a rivalry. I was disappointed to see they're not playing this year.
Blah. No offense, we just don't have a real rival in the Big 12. I guess I'm looking forward more to OSU given what happened to us last year at home. But is that a rivalry? Not really.

This reaction was expected. Which are you - Cincy? The problem is, no one else has history or reason to care about the new schools, and you can't blame them if you don't even care about playing each other.
Leaving Kansas out of the thumbnails is a no brainer mistake. KU is the oldest member, best history, even in football. Maybe the point is that Kansas has no rivals. Or that they’re headed to the B1G?
I wouldn't read into it. I just fit what I could. I think Kansas was even on there but I rearranged it. My mistake was that I included as many logos as I did.
KSU hates KU way more than ISU. They hate KU more than they like themselves.

@saturdayswarriorbyu Incidentally, KU's historic rival is Missouri. That rivalry is pure hatred on both sides, and has state history dating back to the Civil War. KSU has more hatred for KU than KU has for KSU.

I was aware of the Kansas hated towards Missouri. It sounds similar to the Michigan dynamic with ohio and Michigan State.

Utah v TCU. Revival of the MWC days.
KSU v Colorado could be soothing.

No Holy War or is that just a given? I do think TT with ASU could be a good one. I'd love it if Miami joined. They'd probably hate being forced into a rivalry with UCF, which makes it that much better.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu Cuz the ACC is a dead man walking. The western BIG12 presidents, including BYU, really like rubbing shoulders with them. They are best pals with Notre Dame. Arizona desperrately wants that Oakland recruiting ground back. Stanford was told "NO!" by the BIG10.
Would Stanford play with ASU, AZ, Utah, and Colorado?(Hint:they already did)

BYU had some success scheduling Cali schools in independence.

@@saturdayswarriorbyu I think that is nonsense. They are flying across the country just to remain relevant in athletics. The Bay area was certainly oversaturated as far as sports. They just lost the A's and Raiders though possibly allowing for a little more oxygen. Stanford could be in a position to benefit.
Regardless, both sides have already had a chance to make a deal but didn't. Can't say for sure who did no, but it looks like that ship has sailed. There're are schools I'd rather add, but it's fine if it ends up being Stanford.

Colorado which they are 10 and 4 in the last 14 meetings
And 10 and 16 against all time
And Utah who they are 20 and 26 and 2 ties all time
Texas Tech is not the same Texas Tech of old
And Arizona is 5 and 1 against K State
And Tempe Normal aka Arizona State
Owns Utah
So Utah rivals would be BYU
Arizona and Arizona State
Fair, but it would also be good to not just keep all the Pac-12 schools together. Plus, when looking at knowrivalry.com (which we should've done for the video), Arizona doesn't show up for Utah at all. And for Arizona, it was just ASU. So, I still think we take more established rivalries into account first. Zona does show up for Colorado though, so we could try rearranging to accommodate that.

OSU and Texas Tech are way bigger fanbases/brands than Miami, people forget Miami is a TINY private school, lots of bandwangoners.
And yes with 16 teams, a 3 protechted rivals you would play the other 12 every other year. so in each stadium at least once every 4 years.

Bigger fan bases, but I still think Miami would generally be considered a bigger brand. But unless they start backing it up, that may not be the case much longer.

TCU is probably Tech's most hated in rival in the Big 12 now that Texas and aggy are in SEC.

OSU-Utah, OSU-KSU, OSU-TCU. Bedlam was a huge rivalry between teams competing for a spot in the conference championship for the last 15 years. OSU needs a rival that can compete. OSU is 12-2 vs Tech over the last 14 years. Iowa State just upset us twice when we were good and they weren't, and is 4-11 in the last 15 against us. Houston is nothing to us.
As an ISU fan, it is incredible just how we come together to specifically make your lives hell.
Nobody cares about Houston. And we're not making these decisions in a vacuum, those schools have other rivalries to consider. Utah could become one if you continually compete for the conference championship as you both think you will.
@Shipwright14 as an OSU fan, those upsets are what rivalries are made of. I don't really have feelings towards ISU, except when it's in Ames in November.

OSU fan base cares more about Utah and KSU than UH. You’re trying to manufacture hatred, that Sh-t comes naturally. True rivalry comes from one team standing in the GD way of progress. UH isn’t standing in anyone’s way. For OSU, KSU/UU are in the way. And UU is so easy to hate anyway, they should probably be on everyone’s sh-t list. Not everything fits into a nice tight box. If you want something and someone is in the way of it, Boom HATRED. If two teams get in each other’s way enough times true long term animosity will brew. You can’t just make this up. And that’s why you’re wrong.
ISU-2011. Still pissed, think of it every year. Inferior team.
TT- some real challenges with Mike Leach. No mike leach, no challenge.
UH- no one cares.
KSU-recent Big12 Champion, highly rated. Well coached, well supported.

Which games do I want to watch? UU and KSU. Duh!
It’s not like the past. The most compelling games for each of the teams are the ones that will come closest to a rivalry feel. Not everyone is going to have 3.
@@user-dq7vd1mf3j I don't disagree with anything you said. This was just for fun, but also, it would need to be for every team if it were to be built into the schedule. But I'm sure this wasn't implemented in part for the reasons you laid out. I look forward to seeing which rivalries form in the Big 12. I wonder though with teams not playing every year and the transfer portal, if we'll see on field rivalries form as often. More likely than not they will be formed by the fans on Twitter.
