@@WalkThatBass I know your british or whatever, but in America that is some damn good singing especially for jazz :) Sometimes ya gotta be informal and break the rules of music lol.
Questions I guess it's a matter of taste and method , but having the top note of a chord the same as the melody, isn't the best way to go. If you go by the foundations of voice leading with contrapuntal guide lines (Bach in short) this would be call a weak voice leading (quinta octava or prima). Tertia (thirds) sexta (sixth) will give a better interesting voicing. The disadvantage is that the singer doesn't get a clue about the top note he/she needs to sing. Will be happy to hear your perspective
How can I know what should I use chords in comping vocalists?? For example what chord progression Should I use?? Specially if its on the spot comping. Because I don't know what particular chord and chord progression Should I use. Tjank you for this lesson from the philippines hehe Follow up question Can I use random chords in comping a singer? Or group of singers?
Us piano players are all alike... we never have any confidence in our singing abilities. LoL. You performed that with respectability. Too tough on yourself.
You always talk and comment on how to give a proper Jazz performance, but are there any infamous performances you could commentate on, performances where everything goes wrong and despite the musicians having talent, they can't quite get their talents to mesh?
Tommy Flanagan's solo on Giant Steps is the most well known cock-up in Jazz circles. I cover some of the better known mistakes in jazz recordings in my video/lesson here: th-cam.com/video/dfpNbJGLisU/w-d-xo.html www.thejazzpianosite.com/jazz-piano-lessons/jazz-improvisation/making-mistakes/
Is it my impression or at 7:27 he gets lost and go out of straight 4/4 time? Then he gets it back. Nice to se that gods make mistakes ehehe we are humans
