Doing a build review, pointing out a few 'pay attention here' moments, is of so much help to modellers wanting to get this kit (box of kits). Thanks for investing the time in the build review! Its a great help!
The more choices the merrier. I never can understand anyone bitching about model kits. No one is forcing anyone to buy a kit . .and other companies models don't sell takom kits. It's logical for Takom after king tigers and Panthers. And you are spot on when it comes to versions
Hey Will. well said! Blows me away when the chorus line starts to complain about subject, scale, version etc etc. I’m grateful we are getting new tooled kits and getting all these choices within our hobby! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🫡🙏😎
I never understood it either. When these were announced a discord server I’m in people were complaining. Yes, the market is saturated with Tigers and P-51’s. However some of those kits are from ‘67, ‘73, ‘82, ‘97… hell even kits designed in ‘06 or ‘15 can show their age. Technology and tooling is constantly improving. I’m all for new tools of things. I’d like lesser stuff too, but what sells more and attracts more people to the hobby? A tiger 1 or Mustang or some obscure variant of a limited produced vehicle only real history nerds have heard of? How many people really know about a Duplex drive Sherman? Or an M4 “Jumbo” or ME-410?
@@lyad3618 as expensive as you want it to be really. If you’re not looking to spend much money on kits or materials then you could grab a starter kit. It comes with paint and a simple kit. Some kits come with colored plastic too so you could just build it as is. The deeper you dive into the hobby the more materials and kits you collect and thus end up spending a lot in the process. Again it’s whatever you want out of the hobby. It is nice when you complete a kit. I’ve only completed 4 since I started lol
Hey! sorry I missed this comment - Complex question... A kit like this would be around $70AUD (give or take) - but you could pick up a kit for a lot less than that for your first attempt. A basic set of tools might be $20 AUD... Paints would be required after that...but maybe start with the build and see how you enjoy that part. It really is such an amazing hobby, so Id encourage you to give it a try if you are even slightly interested - thanks for connecting
Thank you for your sharing. I’m into Tamiya models. However, this’s the best video on TH-cam (at least to me) on introducing the Takom model(s); it’s detail and concise. 🎉
Wow, thanks! Im into Tamiya models too... but there are so many other excellent options out there as well. Glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you reaching out to say hi! 🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 In your opinion, what other brands nowadays have the same or even better quality than Tamiya (I mean ease of builds and not overly engineered)? I’ve been building Tamiya kits since the early 70’s… LOL 😝
Well.. no doubting Tamiya are the benchmark with ease of build and engineering... but their range of subjects only spans so far. Takom and Meng are usually pretty predictable.. but Takom can suffer from over engineering sometimes. My advice would be to do a quick google search of the kit you are considering and see what others are saying about it. That will give you a reasonable feel for the complexity of the kit. TH-cam is always good too if you can find a build video. Hope that helps. 🤗
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Did you know Otto started a Pharmacy chain after the war? And to this day three stores are still open. They are called Tiger Apotheke, no joke!
I'm sure the model companies have thought about that, but unfortunately Kurt Knispel's service is poorly documented. He didn't write a book and the most important book about him (Kurowski) is not entirely trustworthy. (Some actual tankers that were interviewed, complained that the author put words in their mouths.) So it's not easy to name the "Kurt Knispel Tiger", and in fact, because he was a gunner in 1943 rather than a commander, he was probably switched between several Tigers. Nevertheless, there IS one very credible account by a Tiger commander of a particular 1943 battle where Knispel was his gunner. That Tiger is firmly associated with the name Kurt Knispel, and I have done the research to depict it.
A pleasure to watch. A lot of research and work went into this to produce such a slick, informative, beautifully produced and entertaining vid. Cheers!
The best Takom review (build review!) seen- the link in link tracks with guide-horns: to be candid, are the only thing throwing me from buying ANY of these Takom kits…although- watching you do the work, detailing and showing us the issues: how to resolve them, is encouraging… NOT having the ability to “easily”remove tracks for weathering, ditto the road wheels etc. for “fear” of breaking off guide horns, or bits of track- the hours needed to assemble the track (getting old, stiff fingered and eyes weaker) - taking away too much time from the rest of the build (and life)…. With the amazing mold technology available now- one would think that hell, why not Mold the tracks around the drives and returns- then fill in with length of track- or high tech band tracks with guide horns molded in (NOT like Dragons Magic Tracks!) - no worries about breaking bits when moving in display cases or to showings- something new. Spending time on details; is vital… as I micro drilled out the barrel of Tamiya ball mounted MG-34 on a Jadgpanther! Stunning MG-34s on that Takom! Cheers and a Good Night To All-
Hi John, the tracks really werent that bad. And if you break it down into smaller sub-assemblies, they find themselves built in no time. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water 😉 these kits are great. Or you could always upgrade it with a set of 3D printed tracks to make your life easies! Many thanks for connecting I truly appreciate it 😎
Wow! Was umming and ahhing over buying this Tiger. You got me over the line. Hoping Takom sling you a commission! Looking forward to your painting and weathering video. Cheers.
Don't be so sure that a commission from Takom would be free of strings. I got banned from their Facebook for pointing out a missing radio in a Panther kit.
Supply and demand and eventually the consumer/builder is the sole judge of the viability of Takom's offering. For me, I'm not enamored with the Tiger I...at least I wasn't until I watched this. Thanks for taking the time; it does make a difference.
Thank you for watching. It’s always nice to hear people are appreciative of the content and it’s making a difference…even if in a small way. Thanks for connecting 🙏🍀
Clayton, thank you for an absolutely outstanding and thorough review and build. In less than 25 mins, you have done a brilliant job of detailing most of the major aspects and salient points of the Takom kit and key historical aspects to be aware of during the build, and it was also easy to watch. It is so refreshing to see someone who has done the research in preparation for their video, not only on the model kit, and its associated parts, instructions, and paint schemes, but also on the historical content and accuracy of the Takom kit. It is frustrating to see the amount of garbage content and reviews that exist on TH-cam where the reviewer has done no preparation or research at all, including not even familiarising themselves with the build instructions, and constantly states having no idea what various parts are, let alone having any knowledge on the subject matter. As a case in point, I saw a recent review of an M4 Sherman kit depicting LTCOL Creighton 'Abe' Abrams' Thunderbolt VII tank on the box art and as one of the paint schemes and the content creator was totally ignorant to the historical significance of that particular tank. Suffice to say you have restored my faith in the fact that there is still quality modelling content out there by creators who actually know what they are talking about. I have built a number of Takom kits in both 1/35 and 1/16 scale and I have found them to be of excellent quality and value for money, though I would have to say they have lifted the bar again on the level of detail in these recent Tiger I kits. I placed my pre-order for the Tiger I Big Box Limited Edition as soon as it was available and it arrived a week ago. I have saved your video and will be using it for reference material during my build. Thank you again and keep up the excellent work with your videos. Oh, and do we need another Tiger I kit? Yes, we certainly need these three Takom kits to replace the many old and sub-standard kits currently on the market.
Andrew, firstly, thank you for your detailed, thoughtful and kind comments. It is comments like these that really drive me to continue doing what I am doing. And don't for a second think that I don't miss crucial details and/or get things wrong, but I think that paying service to the history of the subjects we are building is a crucial part of this hobby and one that gives me alot of joy. I am just trying to produce videos that I would like to watch, so it is very pleasing hearing your comments and thank you for coming along on the journey my friend 🤝🙏😎😁
Thanks to you and Missing Lynx my wallet has lost another $100!!! Not usually a fan of pre-made zimmerit but these Tigers are getting some pretty good reviews and getting 3 kits and a 1/16 figure for $99 is just a crazy value. Really well done video BTW, thank you for the effort because I know what these things take to put together.
Wouldn’t that be awesome! Still…there are a few options out there for the Firefly…guess it just comes down to affordability. Thanks for joining the conversation 👌🏼👍🙏
If you don't mind the wait, or buying direct from China, the RFM Firefly can be purchased and shipped for under 50.00 US. On Ebay, RM5038. I also saw the Asuka Sherman 1C for 54.00 with free shipping. But I have to agree, the Takom Hetzers were under 50.00 with interior, and I got all three Takom Tiger 1's for 51.00 each shipped. I hope Takom does a range of M4's, and T-34's as well. With any luck Meng will expand their M4 line.
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I'm sorry to hear Meng is moving away from military kits. I think their M4A3 is very nice, I like it more than the Asuka versions and was hoping Meng would make the 75mm turret version.
10:15 - It's called ground pressure. With less wheels the ground pressure add up and makes it harder to manouver on softer terrain. This is also why tiger tanks have those wide tracks :)
Hi Clayton Oh what fun 😅😂 Out of all the Tiger tank references I have I can personally recommend MMIR’s The Modellers Guide to Tiger Tanks to assist working through the nightmare of the versions, modifications and production dates etc especially with the very small PE upgrade kits and scratch building 😅 Helped me with Dragon’s and Tamiya’s Tiger kits. I hope that you’re going to do build videos on them all mate, really looking forward to watching them. Cheers from Perth ❤😊
Hey Michael. Yep, I was spitting out those facts taken directly from that book. I did reference it in the video down in the bottom left of the screen. Awesome book too btw! As much as I’d love to build all 3 I don’t have enough hours in the day…so this will probably be my one and only venture into the Takom tiger. Thanks for connecting 🙏🍀
Good morning Clayton!, Friday morning for us in the midwest of the USA. I am suitably impressed with the detail of this kit. The Zimmerit is outstanding!!, easily the best I have seen from anyone. If I build one of these Takom Tigers I will go with Friulmodel tracks. I have never been disappointed with them. The assembly process for link & length, particularly the guide horns in this example, just doesn't seem like it's worth the effort. Anyway, overall this is an excellent kit with some helpful molding and design techniques that aid the modeller in the assembly process. Look forward to the next installment 👍
I feel Like we can never have enough, because honestly, the newer a kit,the better the technology should be,meaning that hell yeah,it looks great, however I prefer earlier Panzers,III and IV,but Tiger’s are iconic so every company needs to release one ;)
You’re going to love it. I have a few things on this build that need to be corrected, so be sure to check out the next episode in this series and I’ll go through them. Specifically for the command version. 🍺💪🙏
Great video Clayton! The molded zimmerit looks excellent in the kit; much better than the Dragon kits for sure. Your step-by-step of all the options was excellent, though I believe that the cover for the ventilator is not armour but rather a wading cover from the early examples with the snorkel. The stowage included is very nice... I did not know that was included in the kit!
Love all the different options. The double hole optical range finder Was a weak spot. When hit with a shell it would make a big hole. The single optical range finder although less acurate over long range made the metal stronger and less likely to fail with a shell hit.
I haven't ventured into the world of 1/16 yet. Not sure that I ever will but appreciate that people are loving that scale at the moment. Thank you for connect and your support 🙏
That antenna pot being added at 22:08, is supposed to be countersunk into the hull roof until only the rim is showing. So, a large hole should be opened up at an early stage. Did the instructions make this clear?
Hey Davey - yeah..Ive been made aware of that. I think it is an oversight in the instructions but need to revisit them when Im in the studio next time - Ill address a few of the things that have come up in the next video in the series. Appreciate you reaching out 🙏🤝
I’m so up in the air on weather to get the tiger big box from Takom. I’m going to a show in April so maybe if one of the vendors has one I’ll probably take the plunge 👍
Hey Eric 😁 There’s no doubting the big box is great value for money. I guess the question is can you see yourself building 3 tigers?! Thanks again for joining in 😎🙏
Best Tiger I ever built was a Trumpeter Late Production with full interior. It got the white metal tracks, totally deserved them. Superb model, lost in a divorce . . .
tiger tank and a mustang plane are the two ww2 models I would love to build and seeing this video i know now which one i want to build first!! totally rad video the detail these have is amazing!!
Hi Clayton, good looking kit, not 100 % sure but I don't think the co-ax mg is fitted in the command version as that is where extra radio went, hence plug to mg hole, just some trivia for you.
Hi Dean, I am aware of that error and a couple of others and will look to address them in the next video. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge though and connecting with me 🙏
Welcome back. Takom make great kits that are generally pretty well priced. ‘Top tier’ is really open to interpretation. Pretty hard to fault a new release Tamiya kit… There are so many companies producing high grade product now. We really are spoilt for choice. Now get building! 😉🍀🍺😎
I was very happy to see that Takom made the lower hull front a separate piece. On the Dragon Tiger I with zim, that I have, you add a thick piece to the nose, that makes the nose overly thick.
Hi Clayton, i enjoyed your review of the Takom 1:35 Tiger kit, i have never built a Takom kit and i think the detail is really good! The only thing i dont really like is the assembly of the tracks, im not a big fan of assembly style tracks but i think i will look for this kit and give it a try. 😊
Hey Gary. Yeah…the tracks are a little tedious. I can’t lie…but it’s like having children and getting through the teen years…awful when it’s happening but worth it at the end 😉😆 It’s all cost, but there are plenty of 3d printed track options out there. Great to see you again 🙏🍺☝️
Hi Clayton.. Great video . I was wondering if I need to buy another Tiger (I have 29 in my stash ) But yes I believe I will pick up at least one of these new ones. If I might make a few little notes. The plug on the mantlet should be flush , The command version extra antenna plug should be in a recessed hole on the left hand side . and last the front part of the ball mount is missing but that might just be for painting purposes .. Please don't take this as criticizing , it is just meant to help. Thanks again for a great new video and you have made me want to get this late version for sure . Keep it coming , Can't wait to see it painted up .
Thanks Richard. Appreciate the input re the plug and mount. I’ve had a few people pull me up on that so will address that in the next video for sure. 29 tigers! That’s considered a condition in some countries 😉 Thanks for connecting 🙏🍺
Awesome video and build!!!!! Have built a few TAKOM kits and have noticed that very same thing you pointed out from the first kit I build: extra sections in the instructions with no type of explanation as to what the "version" is to be called out. Figured that since most of their kits are the "2-in-1" stuff I'll build a little of both and add to vehicle - crews would be using whatever supply parts were on hand at the time whether said parts were of an earlier version or later version so it would probably be more historically "accurate" if the parts were intermixed some.
Hey James, one thing I have learnt building armour is there are no absolutes, so you could be on the money with your theory! As long as you are enjoying what you are building, that is all that matters. Thank you for your comments I truly appreciate you reaching out 🙏
Not a bad idea at all! Would help with the issue I had… but the jig in the kit is pretty good. You just need to be careful. Appreciate you joining in 🙏💪😎
Cheers ❤👍🏻..there will never be enough Tigers ! Like Shermans ! Dragon/CyberHobby's Sherman range together with Asuka / Tasca's .. Buy build compare and collect 😊
Hi Clayton thank you for sharing and yes I have actually ordered this kit and hopefully it will be with me next month? I did not go for all 3 as I think my wife would have other idea's but I did order 2 new Hetzer kits also the command version and the flame thrower which will be with me in June this year. and I agree with you I will probably buy either resin or metal tracks, I'm not a fan of link and length tracks but grateful you persevered with this kit but I think its a great looking kit but with all kits there is always room for improvement and the reference book you mentioned is no longer available unless you have plenty of spare bucks on eBay but I recommend the Hilary Doyle /Thomas Jentz trio of books on the Tiger Tanks great accurate information a bit expensive to buy but a good investment for both modellers and tank nuts like me. 👍😎
Hi Paul. That’s great! You’re going to love it…and those little Hetzer kits are great too. I’ll check out the books you suggested. Thanks again for being part of this community 🙏🍺☝️
you are most welcome the books are 3 volumes by Thomas L. Jentz & Hilary L. Doyle published by Schiffler covering both Tiger 1 and Tiger 2 In depth but yes I cannot wait to build these Takom Kits and I have also subscribed to your channel looking forward to your next video. @@workbenchhobbies4316
If takom produces an interior version I'll be pre-ordering it foe sure, as I have all but a few of the rfm full interior tigers and kits of other tanks! This looks really worth buying!
Just be aware, there are many inaccuracies in Tiger interior kits nowadays.... the model companies' attitude seems to be "If we don't know what goes there, the customer won't know either"
Well. In fairness, we shouldn’t be criticising the kit before they’ve even made it. Although based on the shortcomings of the Hetzer release you could be onto something 👀🙄
Yeah, the tracks do take some effort. Just approach them methodically and with patience. They weren’t as bad as i thought they could have been. Good luck with the build 🍀🤞💪🙏
Appreciate the in-depth review. I just finished a Tiger with full interior and I am looking forward to building these Tigers as well. One thing I did notice with this kit that varied from the RFM kit is the zimmerit shown on the upper glacis plate, the flat one between the front flaps. I noticed there is a museum Tiger that had the zimmerit reapplied and they applied zimmerit on that upper glacis. I scoured reference photos but couldn't find a single photo showing that zimmerit was applied there. Have you come across anything or did Takom make a mistake? I feel like the research is what makes Tigers so difficult to model because there is so little visual information available for all the variants, changes, etc.
I’ve been trying to find references on the tank I’m wanting to paint but keep coming up short. You can drive yourself crazy obsessing over details. It gets to a point where you just have to let it go and make peace with it. At the end of the day these things end up on our display shelf with us being the only ones that would know the difference between any of it. Did Takom get it wrong? No idea, but one thing I have learned over years of modelling armour is to never deal in absolutes, because these things saw so many updates and modifications. I think if something is plausible and you can’t find reference to counter it then it’s fair game. Not sure if that helps. Thanks again for connecting 🙏💪🍺
Hi Clayton! Great video of this build as usual mate. When I returned to modelling a few years ago, the Tiger 1 from Tamiya was one of the first projects I tackled. I have built a couple since then from different manufacturers, but that first Tiger I built takes pride of place in the display cabinet. It is not as well built, or painted and weathered as well as later builds, but for some reason it represents my satisfaction with building models again after so many years absent from the hobby. With regards the Takom Tigers, I will be looking to build all three when I can get my hands on them. I love the Takom brand, and have now completed quite a few of their German armour kits. Yes, they can be frustrating at times, but overall they have few fit issues, and the crisp detail in the moulding is fantastic. Really looking forward to the painting and weathering episode on this big cat. Cheers for now mate!
Hey Gary. Really appreciate you joining in. The Tiger is a special subject isn’t it? Can’t wait to hear how you go with these ones. I’m sure you’re going to love them! 🍺🍀
Hi. Mine was a review kit direct from Takom (via The Modelling News), so I got mine before they were available. Pretty sure yours shouldn’t be too far away. I’ve seen a few people sharing box shots online. Thanks for connecting 🙏😎🍀
At 5:28 you say that the external bolts for the shock absorbers, were moved during production. Well, they were not, as far as I can tell. I have checked the oldest surviving Tiger, which is the 31st one built, and the positions are identical. Where did that notion come from?
Hey Davey. I’m away from the studio at the moment, but if you wanted to send me a msg through Facebook or my website I’m happy to send you the info. I do reference the book all through the video. ‘The modellers guide to the tiger tank’ - Patrick Stansell
@@workbenchhobbies4316 OK, for the benefit of the viewers : those bolt heads never got moved. Takom have them in the right position (but their shape is a little "off").
This looks like a lovely kit, and i have no objection to 'another tiger' but I can understand where the frustration comes from, my main area of interest is british armour and while there is a decent spread available its dwarfed by the shermans and germans and as I like to add figures to my builds because I love the sense of life and scale that they add, its really hard to find british tank crew figures in comparison to soviet ones, or especially american and german ones, but I'm happy for a release like this because these types of subjects are the big money makers so hopefully the manufacturers can make enough from these to release the odd slightly more niche offering, like a matilda 1 or a modern tooling for a CVRT in place of the now quite aged AFV Club offering, or any number of other vehicles! Plus the more well known vehicles are often what draw people in to the hobby in the forst place, and getting more people interested in modelling and hopefully the history behind whatever it is they choose to build is the most important thing!
Hi Simon. I think we’d all love to see more British armour. Have you seen the Vargas Models Matilda 1. It’s 3d printed and looks incredible. It’s on my wish list! I think as 3d becomes more accessible we will start to see a lot more of the vehicles you are hoping for. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🍺💪🙏

Thank you mate, another good show, and until today I'd (erroneously) pronounced it "zimmer-mit"! What is the rotary tool you're using? My ages-old dremel is good for metal and wood, but can't be slowed enough for plastic.
Hey Michael. I’m just using a cheap battery powered one off eBay. It has 5 speed settings from memory. Seems to do the trick. Thanks again for joining in 🙏
I have the three kits hopefully coming soon. May I ask if the zimmerit pattern is the same in all three kits. Hopefully they're different which would save me some work
Hello Clayton, Thank you very much for the review. Very informative and a lot of fun to watch! If I may ask a question, what do you use for a drill? I see you using an electric drill and not a hand powered pin vise. I have been looking for one due to problems with my hands. Thank you again and hope to hear from you.
Hi Walter, it was a cheap one off e-Bay that charges off a USB cord. It has 5 speed settings and from memory cost me about $20AUD so have a little peek and see how you go. Thank you for connecting I truly appreciate your kind comments 😁
Bonjour! So pleased the video helped. That Otto Carius tank has some unique features, so if you were wanting to depict that accurately I’d encourage you to do a little research. Or you can just build it 🤩☺️😉 Good luck with your build and thanks for connecting 🙏🍺
@@workbenchhobbies4316 hello, thank you for your response;i know that the Tiger 217 Otto Carius doesn't have Zimmerit on the glacis forward: and it's missing the first wheel:see on the boxart;sorry for my poor english!good journey, amity,Patrick🙏
I do have a question: are metal barrels suppose to be “painted” or like covered to be painted? Granted that the next video would probably answer my question but I am deeply couriers as I do hands down prefer the metal over the plastic when given the choice
I bought the 3 kit box because it was a steal. Barely more expensive than a single MENG kit. A downside with Takom kits is their small instructions imo. It can be hard to determine how a part sits from the instructions. Another is the thick sprue gates connecting to the parts which were present in at least their earlier kits.
Thanks for connecting. These kits do present incredible value for money (at least where I am from). These instructions were pretty good for the most part and is the larger style booklet. Connection points to the sprues was generally very good too. 🥂☝️👀🙏🍺
Any Tiger or Panther kits new on the market are welcome but l can't help thinking there are many more obscure and lesser known WW2 German AFV 's that model companies could add to their catalogue and which modellers like myself would love to build .
Hey there. Thanks for joining in. I agree with you but I guess the manufacturers need to make commercial decisions. Also with the advancements of 3d printing our access to some of the options you speak of is becoming more of a reality every day. Thanks again for connecting 🙏😎🍺
I think some nice 3d printed tracks would certainly make the build a little more enjoyable, but the tracks in the kit aren’t that bad. It’s a case of looking worse than it actually is I think. Thanks for joining in the conversation 🙏😎💪👍
@@workbenchhobbies4316 good day mate I have a question I am doing this same kit at the moment I noticed you did your wheels single row then double and finished with a single to me it looks like their is single row then double and double followed by single asking around Tigre’s we’re built with the second configuration looking at some pictures of a Tigre factory that’s how they were done Could you please clarify this for me as it has confused me 🤷🍻
Hi - the wheel type and configuration changed during the production run. The Tiger initially had 24 road wheels per side, and when they went to the steel wheels they dropped it to 16 wheels per side. If you google Tiger Wheel configuration Im sure you'd be able to find a heap of info. Hope that helps
@@workbenchhobbies4316 so it’s ok to put the 24 wheels on each side lol I did and then I seen your build and thought I did something wrong 🤦🏼didn’t want to go pulling all the wheels of 😊😊
Nice review Clayton. I'm surprised this is your first 1/35 Tiger!. Having been read the riot act regarding kit accumulation, I wont be getting this beauty anytime soon 🤣 Looking forward to the painting/weathering process on this one. Any plans? Vignette? Stylised base?
So, i recently got the TAK2201 kit (M. Wittman's Tiger). Should i consider selling it or giving it a try? Honestly i would prefer having an easy going process...not the opposite. What do you think?
Thank you very much for your interest. Well, my basic concern here is mostly the tracks, which as i understand may be a bit difficult, needs delicate moves, is time consuming, along with some cupola issues i've read in another video. But i will trust your final input!
The cupola is an easy fix. It’s just the angle it’s facing is incorrect. Just remove the locating lugs and rotate it to where it should be. It’s an accuracy issue I missed. Re the tracks…yes, time consuming and a bit painful but I’ve dealt with worse. They give you the guide horns pre-spaced in lengths which speeds things up. You could go aftermarket tracks but that is still time consuming…but if I ever built another I’d probably get metal tracks for it. It’s a great kit. What’s the alternative you were thinking of? Think you’d be hard pressed to find anything better
That’s a pretty complex question because it really depends on your expectations and skill set. In reality these schemes would have all been sprayed, so if you wanted to replicate the soft edges of the camo then that would be tough to replicate with a brush. But modelling is a journey, so if all you have is the means to brush paint then don’t let that get in the way of you enjoying the kit. Build for yourself and look to learn something new with each build and you can’t go wrong. Good luck 🤞 🍺🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 thanks for the reply, i have been painting warhammer for just under a year now and am getting into more tanks and stuff so i think i might have to take the plung and get a airbrush set!
For me, using the airbrush is one of my most favourite things to do, so I’d encourage you to taken the plunge. There is a learning curve, but once you get it it will elevate your modelling to a new level 🫡💪✅
Well…my favourite airbrush is the Air Cobra from Ammo, but I’ve heard good things about the the Iwata Neo. Reasonably priced I believe. Just make sure you get a dual action brush and I’d recommend 0.3mm to 0.35mm. Hope that helps 🙏🍺
I am currently building up the Takom Mid version and there are some real problems with the fit of the road wheels. They don't connect properly and the space is too narrow for the next set of wheels to fit into. The tracks are also painful with 6 connection points to sand including the guide horns (which are too thin). I really don't understand how a company that can go to such great lengths achieving amazing renderings can shit the bed on a simple item like roadwheel connections and tracks.
Sorry to hear you are having such trouble with the kit, because the road wheels on mine were just about perfect. I hope things improve for you from here 🙏
The road wheel set is complex, it's possible you are assembling them wrongly. Try posting a photo of your wheels on "missing lynx", it's full of experienced kit builders.
@@garylawless3608 Wow. What about the fit of the front plate? I've seen a lot of complains about it. I have takoms porsche jagdtiger but haven't build yet.
@@workbenchhobbies4316He he thanks, the soldiers I buy are based on American Vietnam and WWII mostly. I have all the colours available. I used to paint my soldiers, but the solvent in the paint made the plastic very fragile and brittle. I also like to do Airfix models.
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I like to think of my pink army men as a regiment of soldiers that were discharged from various armies for being gay who formed their own unit!! I get most my soldiers from BMC in Scranton in the US. I also get a lot from different shops I go to. My army men are some of the only things my dad hasn't thrown away form my old room at home!!! I've been collecting since I was 12 or 13. I also like to do Arifix models too. I see you used the beer emoji, I like a nice Boddingtons occasionally, what your favourite brand to drink? In the past 3 months I have only had 1 can of bud!!!! I've been saving my money for other things!!!!
Hi there. Good Kit - absolutely. They got a lot of the detail and the engineering right. Is it for beginners?...probably not. There are a lot of parts and complex assemblies you would have to navigate. If you were only new to the hobby I'd recommend looking for a TAMIYA Tiger to get a feel for the tank. That way you are generally guaranteed a smooth and simplified build process. Hope that helps and good luck with the next kit!
Thanks so much I'm not a beginner that much being doing this for about a year and I'm 13 😂so yeah thanks will think of getting this kit or a trumpeter kit 😅thanks for the help
I don't like L&L tracks. I like to paint them separately from wheels and while it's technically possible with L&L it's fiddly and unpleasant. If I ever buy this kit I'll most likely get RFM plastic or T-Rex resin tracks along. As for subject... There are some Tigers of good quality - Dragon, RFM, Border Model, was this one necessary? No, but the zimmerit here looks really tasty. Still I'd rather see some good quality IS-2 or IS-3, as currently you can only have old Tamiya and Trumpeter kits. Of course I would prefer to get them from RFM, as they usually provide workable tracks ;)
Now you’re teasing me! Imagine a brand new Takom IS2/3! Yes!!!! For the record, I’d usually paint the tracks first too…but wanted to get this together to get the review out for everyone 😎🙏🍺
Hi Steven, I think producing a Tiger in 32nd scale would be absolute suicide for any model manufacturer. I know Bronco tried to introduce that scale with a T34 and they couldn't give them away. I truly appreciate you reaching out and connecting Steven and I hope you enjoyed the video 🤞
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Hi , honestly , i have two 1/32 scale Tiger I tanks from Forces of valor (unimax and waltherson edition) and i displayed them together with my 1/32 Focke Wulf Fw-190 and Bf-109G , the results is awesome , so i imagine what if company like Takom and Rye field model make Tiger I in injection with high level of detail in that scale
I can see the attraction posing them with 32nd scale aircraft but unfortunately 35th scale is so deeply entrenched with armour builders, I think it would be hard introducing 32nd scale armour as a mainstream scale. Mind you, Border Models are promoting a line of 1/35 aircraft now so it will be interesting to see how the sales of that range go!
Don't need another Tiger, I need an ambush of Tigers. However, so saying, I think the only Tiger I have in my stash is a 1/16, so, this was a no brainer.
Doing a build review, pointing out a few 'pay attention here' moments, is of so much help to modellers wanting to get this kit (box of kits). Thanks for investing the time in the build review! Its a great help!
Couldn't agree more. In box reviews, while they can be helpful, are not as useful as this and how it will build up.
Hi Jamie, thank you for connecting I really appreciate your support of this channel and it is always pleasing to hear that I am adding some value 🙏
Me410! Now I’m getting excited 😛
You can never have
enough Tigers!! 👍🏽
Too right!
Thanks for not just doing a box review. Actually building the model helps tremendously
Yes an in box review can only show you show much can't it, glad you enjoyed and thank you for reaching out 🥳
How expensive is it to get into a hobby like this? This tank for example.
It really is such an amazing hobby, so Id encourage you to give it a try if you are even slightly interested - thanks for connecting
..what he said :)
@@workbenchhobbies4316 You’re welcome!
It's over-represented because people love it!
Yep, clearly these things sell 😎
Otto Carius gets all the love from model companies(deserved)
I just wish we could get a Kurt Knispel example from one of the big 1/35th manufacturers.
You make a good point. Wittmann gets a bit of a run too 😆 Appreciate your comments 🙏🍺☝️
@@workbenchhobbies4316 Did you know Otto started a Pharmacy chain after the war? And to this day three stores are still open. They are called Tiger Apotheke, no joke!
Wow is that right! How interesting. Maybe I will get there one day and buy some Asprin 😁
I'm sure the model companies have thought about that, but unfortunately Kurt Knispel's service is poorly documented. He didn't write a book and the most important book about him (Kurowski) is not entirely trustworthy. (Some actual tankers that were interviewed, complained that the author put words in their mouths.)
So it's not easy to name the "Kurt Knispel Tiger", and in fact, because he was a gunner in 1943 rather than a commander, he was probably switched between several Tigers.
Nevertheless, there IS one very credible account by a Tiger commander of a particular 1943 battle where Knispel was his gunner.
That Tiger is firmly associated with the name Kurt Knispel, and I have done the research to depict it.
Great info Davey 👌🏼
Fabulous! Another Tiger, another masterpiece!
Thanks Nigel. Glad you are enjoying the channel 🙏💪😎
A pleasure to watch. A lot of research and work went into this to produce such a slick, informative, beautifully produced and entertaining vid. Cheers!
Thanks for connecting Andy. I appreciate your view 🙏💪🍺
Cheers.
😆😆 no commissions unfortunately 😒 just glad I could share the kit with this community. Thanks for joining in 🙏
Don't be so sure that a commission from Takom would be free of strings. I got banned from their Facebook for pointing out a missing radio in a Panther kit.
After the review I gave on their Weasel I can’t imagine I’d be in their good books either 😉😆

I hope they make a Sherman firefly 1/35 model soon I e been waiting for a more affordable model
I think Meng are moving away from military vehicles unfortunately. You’ve got me excited for a firefly now 😳
@@workbenchhobbies4316 I'm sorry to hear Meng is moving away from military kits.

Hi Clayton
Oh what fun 😅😂
Out of all the Tiger tank references I have I can personally recommend MMIR’s The Modellers Guide to Tiger Tanks to assist working through the nightmare of the versions, modifications and production dates etc especially with the very small PE upgrade kits and scratch building 😅
Helped me with Dragon’s and Tamiya’s Tiger kits.
I hope that you’re going to do build videos on them all mate, really looking forward to watching them.

Fantastic. I am so pleased to hear it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and thank you for connecting 😎
Thanks for joining in Jim. Great to see you again 🙏👀😎

I feel Like we can never have enough, because honestly, the newer a kit,the better the technology should be,meaning that hell yeah,it looks great, however I prefer earlier Panzers,III and IV,but Tiger’s are iconic so every company needs to release one ;)
Absolutely. If the kits are good people will buy them! Too much is never enough 😉😎

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. I’m sure you’ll love them! 🥂🍺💪🙏
Hey mate. Wasn’t the snorkel cover on the engine deck? I’ll FB msg you where I took that info from 🙏🍺
Just beautiful and thank you for the option selection
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for this. My big box is 'in the mail'. Should be here soon. 😃
How exciting for you - enjoy the builds 🥳🥳
Love all the different options.
The double hole optical range finder
Was a weak spot.
When hit with a shell it would make a big hole.
The single optical range finder although less acurate over long range made the metal stronger and less likely to fail with a shell hit.
Hey David. Great info! Thanks for sharing. Hope you’re enjoying the channel 👍🍺💪
Just in time for this video!!! thank you!!

Great video as always. I'm working on the Takom/Andy's hobby 1/16 early Tiger atm and can see a lot of similarities in the kit engineering.

Appreciate you sharing your knowledge though and connecting with me 🙏
Have been absent from this hobby last few years but now I am finally returning. Is Takom the new top tier as was Dragon a decade before ?
Welcome back. Takom make great kits that are generally pretty well priced. ‘Top tier’ is really open to interpretation. Pretty hard to fault a new release Tamiya kit…
There are so many companies producing high grade product now. We really are spoilt for choice.
Now get building! 😉🍀🍺😎
I was very happy to see that Takom made the lower hull front a separate piece. On the Dragon Tiger I with zim, that I have, you add a thick piece to the nose, that makes the nose overly thick.
I have a few Dragon Tigers in the stash but never built one. Might make for an interesting comparison one day. Thanks for your comments 🙏😎🍺
Takom has definitely been releasing some good stuff, I’m currently working on one of their new stug III’s

I can’t lie…but it’s like having children and getting through the teen years…awful when it’s happening but worth it at the end 😉😆
It’s all cost, but there are plenty of 3d printed track options out there.
29 tigers! That’s considered a condition in some countries 😉

Thank you for your comments I truly appreciate you reaching out 🙏
Brilliant video - thank you
Hi there thank you for that, appreciate you connecting 🤝
If they made the jigs as PE, that would help with gluing the tracks. just a thought
Not a bad idea at all! Would help with the issue I had… but the jig in the kit is pretty good. You just need to be careful.

Great video, where can these be bought. Are you in Australia. Thanks and an enjoyable explanations. Can't wait to see it painted.
Hi Patrick. Anyone selling Takom kits in Australia will sell them. I know BNA we’re taking pre-orders… but they will all have them. Hope that helps 🙏🍺
Do we need another Tiger?
Yes, we do
😆😆 we do don’t we 😉🫡 Appreciate your comments 🙏
Thanks for this fantastic video. I'm waiting for mine to arrive. Is the bow machine gun cover plate off intentionally?
Hi Brandon. I did leave a few bits and pieces off for the painting phase…so I’m going to say I did it on purpose 😉
Thanks for joining in 🙏
Nice review, dont think any manufacturer would spend the time and cost if they didnt think they would sell .
Too true. Appreciate you joining in 🙏🍻
I'm a sucker for a tiger and ordered the three..expected at the end of February 😊...Great review btw...👍
Hey Mike. You won’t be disappointed. You are going to love them! Appreciate your comments 🙏😎💪
@@workbenchhobbies4316 three tigers for about £27 each is a steal...I'm a bit of a tiger holic too..and a free figure...
@@workbenchhobbies4316 You also won't be disappointed with Takom's Panther and King Tiger kits either especially the versions with complete interiors.
Absolute bargain you are spot on Mike! Have fun building 🥳
Hi Michael, I have actually built the King Tiger with the full interior for The Modelling News. However, I have never built one of their Panthers.
Good looking l tanks,How long ago did you receive your box I ordered it foreverrrr ago
Hi. Mine was a review kit direct from Takom (via The Modelling News), so I got mine before they were available.
Pretty sure yours shouldn’t be too far away. I’ve seen a few people sharing box shots online.
Thanks for connecting 🙏😎🍀
the answer is yes!
😉😆😆 it most certainly is 👍🍺
At 5:28 you say that the external bolts for the shock absorbers, were moved during production.
Yep. Addressed in latest video
Another entertaining video from you 👍👍👍
It seem like Takom did an outstandig job 👍

Thank you mate, another good show, and until today I'd (erroneously) pronounced it "zimmer-mit"! What is the rotary tool you're using? My ages-old dremel is good for metal and wood, but can't be slowed enough for plastic.
Hey Michael. I’m just using a cheap battery powered one off eBay. It has 5 speed settings from memory. Seems to do the trick. Thanks again for joining in 🙏
I have the three kits hopefully coming soon. May I ask if the zimmerit pattern is the same in all three kits. Hopefully they're different which would save me some work
Pretty sure they will be unique to each build…but not 100%. Sorry I can’t be more helpful
Most excellent! 👍
Thanks buddy. Appreciate you joining the conversation 🙏🍺
What about issues mentioned on Tiger I info? The most serious one is about the rear grilles....
Hey 👋 I’m unfamiliar with issues there. Please feel free to share. Like I said at the start of the video..I’m no expert so always happy to learn 👍💪
Actually I really need to study this kit in more depth. My list of issues is just preliminary as of today.
Keep us posted mate 👋
Hello Clayton, Thank you very much for the review. Very informative and a lot of fun to watch! If I may ask a question, what do you use for a drill? I see you using an electric drill and not a hand powered pin vise. I have been looking for one due to problems with my hands. Thank you again and hope to hear from you.
Hi Walter, it was a cheap one off e-Bay that charges off a USB cord. It has 5 speed settings and from memory cost me about $20AUD so have a little peek and see how you go. Thank you for connecting I truly appreciate your kind comments 😁
hello from France,i buy the Tiger Takom 2200 Otto Carius and your vidéo help me a lot for mounting my kit, amity,Patrick
Bonjour! So pleased the video helped. That Otto Carius tank has some unique features, so if you were wanting to depict that accurately I’d encourage you to do a little research. Or you can just build it 🤩☺️😉
Good luck with your build and thanks for connecting 🙏🍺
@@workbenchhobbies4316 hello, thank you for your response;i know that the Tiger 217 Otto Carius doesn't have Zimmerit on the glacis forward: and it's missing the first wheel:see on the boxart;sorry for my poor english!good journey, amity,Patrick🙏
Your English is great 👍 Re Otto Carius.. I’m no expert there, I’ve just seen a few people pointing out a few unique features
I do have a question: are metal barrels suppose to be “painted” or like covered to be painted? Granted that the next video would probably answer my question but I am deeply couriers as I do hands down prefer the metal over the plastic when given the choice
Metal should always be primed before painting. Thank you for connecting Leonardo 😁
I have this model yet to build. Think I’ll get some different tracks for it. Great build tho
I think some nice 3d printed tracks would certainly make the build a little more enjoyable, but the tracks in the kit aren’t that bad. It’s a case of looking worse than it actually is I think.
Thanks for joining in the conversation 🙏😎💪👍
@@workbenchhobbies4316 good day mate I have a question I am doing this same kit at the moment I noticed you did your wheels single row then double and finished with a single to me it looks like their is single row then double and double followed by single asking around Tigre’s we’re built with the second configuration looking at some pictures of a Tigre factory that’s how they were done
Could you please clarify this for me as it has confused me 🤷🍻
Hi - the wheel type and configuration changed during the production run. The Tiger initially had 24 road wheels per side, and when they went to the steel wheels they dropped it to 16 wheels per side. If you google Tiger Wheel configuration Im sure you'd be able to find a heap of info. Hope that helps
@@workbenchhobbies4316 so it’s ok to put the 24 wheels on each side lol I did and then I seen your build and thought I did something wrong 🤦🏼didn’t want to go pulling all the wheels of 😊😊
Did you follow the instructions? Which version of the tiger are you building?
Nice review Clayton. I'm surprised this is your first 1/35 Tiger!. Having been read the riot act regarding kit accumulation, I wont be getting this beauty anytime soon 🤣 Looking forward to the painting/weathering process on this one. Any plans? Vignette? Stylised base?
Hi mate, Booooooo 😉 surely you can sneak this one through! No plans other than to get this paint scheme down, coz this one could be a tricky one!

Thanks Eddy. Glad you enjoyed it 🍺
So, i recently got the TAK2201 kit (M. Wittman's Tiger). Should i consider selling it or giving it a try? Honestly i would prefer having an easy going process...not the opposite. What do you think?
It’s a beautiful kit…but can I ask, what is it you are most concerned about?
Think you’d be hard pressed to find anything better
when painting would you say airbrush is a need or is painting with a brush okay
@@workbenchhobbies4316 do you have any recommendations on brands for me to look into
Well…my favourite airbrush is the Air Cobra from Ammo, but I’ve heard good things about the the Iwata Neo.
I agree. I’d be so surprised if they got it that wrong based on the kit I just built. Good luck 🍀

Hi there quick question was this kit a good build and is it a good kit for beginners 😅
My pleasure. Great to see a young person embracing hobby. Good luck 🤞

How many times Tiger I was made in 1/35 🥱🥱 , we need it in 1/32 scale in injection form 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 yes , they had released 1/35 Bf-109G , Nakajima B-5N and Ju-87D , hopefully many more aircrafts will be released in 1/35

Don't need another Tiger, I need an ambush of Tigers. However, so saying, I think the only Tiger I have in my stash is a 1/16, so, this was a no brainer.
