  • Back to the TAKOM Tiger 1 (late production) and it's time to set the foundations and airbrush the camouflage scheme. I'd debated as to the best way to do this and finally settled on using Blu-tack masks to set the foundations.
    This is the second part in the series for for the Tiger. This video will take you through a few corrections from the first video as well as show you how to create the unique scheme of the SS Panzer 102 - Heavy Tank Battalion.
    I also put the Ammo by Mig - new range of ATOM paints to the test - so be sure to see how they perform.

    Excellent work. The summary of corrections since the end of the last video was a great introduction. I do love this scheme. It is so striking and unique compared to the standard German schemes, and it's also great to see the ATOM Paints being put to work on another project. The chipped zimmerit is looking great. I'm looking forward to seeing your weathering on this Tiger!

    Free hand it baby... Freehand that glorious Camo pattern! I use Cotton balls that I form and puddy to the tank or a slight bit of Tamiya tape. The cotton balls you can manipulate and squish together, or spread apart depending on how hard or soft you want your pattern.

    Thank you for giving the ATOM paints a real workout with our model projects, because besides the main subject (the model of course) I am very interested in your findings regarding the paint's behavior and handling. I find the text panels in your videos quite helpful, most of the time I stop the video to read them.
    I am using these paints as well now for the main, resp. important parts of an airbrush paint jobs, and I find they are quite forgiving regarding my beginner's capabilities (I had to get a second airbrush suited for the low pressure tasks, though).
    Regarding your use of the Tamiya retarder: "when needs must", there is now a thinner (and cleaner) for the ATOM paint range available on the market. I just have ordered one, and see if there are any noticeable improvements when painting close to the model at low pressure.

    • @workbenchhobbies4316
      @workbenchhobbies4316  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad to hear you are finding the videos helpful and useful. I do use the dedicated ammo thinner to thin the paints. I just resorted to the Tamiya retarder thinner because I was too lazy to clean my airbrush and the lacquer thinner is just more forgiving in the scenario.
      Appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts 🙏🍺

    Great model build! Well worth the wait. I agree heavily with your last statement. I myself have built many tanks and although I prefer to paint them “pristine clean” (in the sense that I don’t add weathering to my tanks such as the tamiya tiger, pz 4, and the Sherman m4) weathering always fascinates me b/c it is indeed a skill that needs to be planned out. Hopefully with the airbrush I recently ordered, I may decide to tackle the weathering process and also cammo department instead of defaulting to just a single color (like all black for the panzer 4 or all olive drab for the m4)

    I can clearly remember when I repainted my 1:16 RC Taigen Tiger in exactly this wave camouflage. With such a size it doesn't matter whether you work with an airbrush or a brush, I did everything with a brush, well except for the base coat with an airbrush. The effect then looks completely different.

    Nice work taking a bold step on this one, I tend to play it too safe. @@workbenchhobbies4316 Hi. I just got out "Death Ride of the Panzers" by Dennis Oliver (Aussie guy) which I recently purchased and features a whole bunch of coloured plates of late war armour which is based on his extensive research.
      Indeed the duckman is correct according to nearly every image presented in this volume. Running gear is a consistent vehicle base colour (Dunkelgelb mainly).
      A variation to this is that a mix of colours may be used but the whole single wheel is one colour (one wheel all Rotbraun, next wheel all Dunkelgelb, etc.) in a random combination.
      Only a few vehicles have mixed colour camo on the running gear (the Panther on the cover does but it is one of the few) and camo is generally not applied below the track guards/fenders.
      Late war you can get away with a lot due to the utter chaos in Germany. Supply chain non existent so it's use what you can get. Dirt and mud included.
      The scheme for Tamiya's Finnish Stug gives each wheel a single colour as does their full colour Hetzer painting guide.

Turned out he was trying to use Vallejo flow improver in it. Stay on brand. Once you are comfortable with it then you can try other stuff. That advice stands for every paint type too btw

    This is really a nice color scheme for any tank. Just as everyone has released their Tiger tanks, here comes Takom with their army of Tigers. Should we just wait till everything is released until we make are picks?

      Hey. The tool I was using was like this one. hobbyisthaven.com/collections/filing-sanding-tools/products/adjustable-wireless-electric-grinding-machine?variant=39730496798822
      But it was only a cheap one from eBay. I’m upgrading it shortly. I’ve arranged a discount for my community through Hobbyist Haven if you’re interested. Use WBENCH10 discount code for 10%. Thanks for taking the time to connect

    What liquid u use to stick all wheel and track ?..permanent glue or temporary ?

    • @workbenchhobbies4316
      @workbenchhobbies4316  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi. I use a Tamiya Extra Thin cement to attach everything. It is a permanent glue however there is a drying window of around 30 minutes that allows me time to wrap the tracks around the wheels and form the shapes. Hope that helps

    This is what happens when people do not PRACTICE, before they are going to use this technique on a model....
    If you would have practiced, you would have discovered this effect, and thus could have avoided it on the model.
    Using masking putty will work fine, as long as you know how to use it.

    Great build Clayton :) One question though: Was there any reason why, when feathering the edges, you didn't simply modify the Dunkelgelb part? :D

    • @workbenchhobbies4316
      @workbenchhobbies4316  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. I feathered the colours mainly because I felt the yellow bands were too big. If I feathered the yellow it would have made them look even bigger. When I went back over the yellow (only in spots) it was to tidy up overspray rather than trying to feather the edges.
      Hope that makes sense 😬🤔😎🙏👍
