    I've been building models since I was about 7 years old. Many were well beyond my age level at the time. It was always disheartening when I'd save up my pocket money for who knows how long, buy a kit I wanted, build it and only to later have my father throw them out as trash. He did that with EVERYTHING artistic I used to make be it models, short stories I wrote, or pictures/posters I'd draw and color. He would get upset when I bought a model kit because to him, they were nothing but toys, and apparently at age 7, I was too old for toys... This was the kind of man who thought if (by the time I reached the age of eleven) I hadn't made up my mind on which career/job I wanted as an adult, I was slacking. He thought my sketchings/drawings were also a huge waste of paper and time. Time I could have been using to find my first job... at age 9... Just because he had dropped out of school at the age of 15 or 16 because he wanted to work instead, he thought I should also do the same, it seemed. All it did was bury my creativity. It's a shame that it did because the teachers who loved having me in class are those who actually saw glimpses of that. I really do not understand his logic in trying to stamp out my imagination. I guess that, sadly, there are so many people who are unable to grasp the fact that models are NOT toys.
    Now as an adult, I buy high end model ships whenever I can. They helped keep me sane when I spent the better part of a year in hospital. My wife (then girlfriend) encouraged/encourages my model building. I have a fleet of around 50 1/700 scale ships.

      Your dad was a sad asshole, so sorry to hear that friend. Glad you are enjoying your adulthood. As a 30 year old I have only recently got into model kits while trying to find a new hobby, I was worried about the stigma of being toys but the more I looked into it, the clearer it became the opposite, and my girlfriend is also supportive.

    Just started the same kit and am looking forward to using this series of videos to help take my project up a level from previous builds. While I agree with your comments about the amount of flash and size of the seam lines, I disagree about the issues you had with the front plate on the super structure. I agree it is a terrible design, but after a few minutes of looking at it, a lot of swearing, and a bit of brute force, it did fit, with no need to make any modification. In saying that, keep up the good work. Your channel is helping a lot of us mediocre modelers to get better. Cheers from New Zealand.

    This Jagdtiger is now at the NACC at Ft. Benning in GA. The gun wasn't taken out by a shell hit btw. I have been on and inside the JT in question. There is a hit to the left hand final drive the immobilized the vehicle. The recoil hydraulics were drained and the gun fired, essentially slamming the gun rearward thus destroying it. Also, there is a heavy hit to the lower glacis below the drivers position.
    As an aside, Aberdeen Proving Grounds lost their entire macro collection back in 2012 and the vehicles were split up between three different military bases. Ft Benning got the tanks and TDs, Ft. Sill in Oklahoma got the artillery pieces, and I can't remember which base got the balance. Back in the 90's Aberdeen has been given a huge chunk of money to preserve their collection, but had done nothing but paint 3 vehicles by 2011. The also moved the tanks that were at Ft. Knox to Ft. Benning as well, since the US Armor School was moved there.
    The NACC has a frankenTiger, this JT, a KT, 3 Panthers (including the only Panther II known to have been built), the last remaining T28/95, 2 T29's, and a T30. There is also a Soviet JS-3 and a whole host of other Russian vehicles.

    Sector 35 makes white metal tracks preassembled on EBay. A little more expensive than Fruils, but worth it. Quality is very good, not a lot of flash. Create miracle also makes nice sets. The come with copper push pins, which makes assembly easier than fishing wire through.

    I was an intern at a plumber and we used some kind of fiber/rope ( don't know the name in english ) and wrapped it around the thread and smeared some fatty substance on it before fitting them together. That or we also used a tool that would press them together with great force, my supervisor told me that it was almost like a weld, just without the whole blowtorch stuff.
    Might be inaccurate, been some 10 - 12 years since then.

    Easy with that xylene superglue curing spray; a close friend of mine used a similar chemical when working for a magazine in the 70s/80s and now has a rare lymphoma, along with 4 of his coworkers. I have to agree on the Friul tracks...quality has went down for sure. I used a set for a recent Tiger Model T-90MS and while they fit fine, they was a train wreck cleaning them up and assembling them. Some were also bent and a great deal of them had tons of flash in the guide horns. I didn't feel they was worth the $39.99 USD I paid for them.

  • @daredemontriple6

In my opinion figures bring a diorama to life and help really give a sense of scale to the model that otherwise is absent with just the machine and it's surroundings. Besides maybe some bad figure painting will help the rest of not be so jealous of your insane skills ;)

    I've been intrigued with the CA glue applicator you have jerry-rigged together. To me, it looks like a piece of wire wrapped around a stick by copper wire. What I can't work out is the bulbous end (try and say that without smirking). Can you share your secret, please? I have made probably 10 Takom kits and I have always been impressed by the fit and the engineering. I have only made 1 Blitz kit though, so maybe they aren't spending as much time and effort on the "cheaper" models in their brand. I actually prefer the longer builds over the Blitz kits (I'm a sucker for punishment).

    I'll give you a trick for when you have to do long, boring and repetitive assembly/hand painting/weathering. Get your electronic device and a set of headphones, choose an orchestral soundtrack (could be from games, films, etc), music playlist or heck, even let's plays of games you'll never have the chance to try. Yes, I know, you'll be a bit slower, but at least, you're not gonna bored to death after 15 minutes.
    Not only that, but you'll get to enjoy something you might not could otherwise, if you’re not already using that trick.
    Keep up the art buddy!

    Dear comrade, tell me what my mistake is. I want to make welded seams on the Mouse around the additional armor plates in front of the tank hull (you probably understood what I'm talking about, because you made the same seams on your tank) So my tamiya putty sticks to anything but not to the plastic of the tank ! This is already driving me crazy. I moisten the tool and a toothpick with water, the body of the tank remains dry. But anyway, when I put a piece of putty on the body, it does not stick to it and constantly sticks to the tool to simulate the weld. What's my mistake?

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmm, if the surface is completely dry then you're probably trying to texture it too soon and the bond isn't strong enough yet. I usually apply the putty into several welds, I spend around 15-20 minutes doing this, and then when the putty is starting to solidify and isn't sticking to the surface as well, I switch over to texturing tools. Once I'm done I just repeat the process until the whole tank is welded.

      @@NightShiftScaleModels Thank you very much for your reply! I will try this way. A little later, a video about Mouse will appear on my channel. And there I will apply techniques (for example, hitting shells into a tank) that you describe in such detail, for which you are very grateful! I will also mention you in my videos :)

    Very nice build work! I think perhaps Takom wanted their customers to get that late war German factory feel with the front plate. You just have to make it look pretty and weld it in place- no time for showroom quality, right?? Haha also very excited to see the figure!! 😁

    Totally dig the look of these builds with the photoetch on the grey textures and putty weld seams. Have you ever built an armor subject to look straight out of the factory before the application of any protection paint, or field colours? Great work! Cheers

    With this much re-working... at what point are you basically scratchbuilding a model? Maybe that'd be cool, can you 3d print a minature that you then take to completion with your trademark skills?

      Not all Takom kits are as bad as this Jagdtiger kit..

  • @scaledistrict7276
    @scaledistrict7276 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Howdy man, nice work on this one! I researched every available photo of Jagdtiger, there is no need for texture and some weldings really don't need to be replaced, they look perfectly fine the way Takom made it but hey, I was also very dissapointed with this kit because of bad quality of moulding (almost every part has to be cleaned and some are unusable so I took it from Dragon) and also because of some fit issues... Generally it is decent model but nothing more. I have Jagdtiger from Tamiya, it is much much better model, especially in terms of quality of moulding.
