I used to drive one of these in New Zealand. The cabs aren't much to write about, but those engines - they are absolutely legendary. My one had done close to 1.7 million kilometres when I left, and it is still going, no oil leaks. Fantastic trucks, one of my all time favourites.
Good to see that "super-dog" working, haven't seen an old V8 bulldog on the road here in years. Between those, the 3408's, VT903's and the 8v71/8v92's have been pretty much relegated to truck pull/show duty or bought up/shipped overseas. EPA, DOT, FMCSA and any other alphabet entity have pretty much sucked all the fun out of driving a truck here in the States anymore.
My first road train truck was a Series 1 Superliner ( V8-400). Its number one issue was when driving in traffic, going up through the gears, the lag on the turbo made it slow and sluggish to gain rpm. Of course these days, with the vast improvement in turbo's that would not be an issue. The 500's had a rather significant issue of breaking head bolts..........Ray Singleton's in Adelaide were breaking 2 bolts every week running Perth per V8 on doubles. Mack developed a special tool so they could get out the broken bolt without taking the head off. Those trucks were pulling fully loaded trailers with glass panels stacked in container frames which were horrible in the wind, and they had the power on 100% all day, even when coming back empty from Perth.
Great video, can't mistake the sound of the V-8 E9 barking bulldog!! Does anyone remember when Renault took over Mack? It was then that the end of the barking V-8 happened. Mack was told under Renault's supervision the V-8 would be replaced by a Cummins for the high h.p. end. The V-8 was also used in Renault's Magnum c.o.e. and their buses and a Canadian logging truck, the Challenger. A logger rebuilt some old Hayes and Pacific's if I remember correctly, and used the V-8 in them. A guy I know from N.J. ran a CL Mack dump w/ the E-9.He took it to the Mack dealer who sold him the truck for an overhaul w/ 500,000 miles on it. With his regular oil changes and maintenance, they couldn't believe how good the engine looked for the miles he had on the truck!
@@dp.oennismaurer205 It was not Renault Volvo has a controlling share in Mack I have a Mack mid liner its a re badged Renault and parts are damned high for that thing !! also 2 2011 Macks working they have Volvo engines that say Mack on the rocker cover but as the local dealer tells me the only thing Mack on that engine is the EGR valve . 347 K on them been pretty good other than emissions issues $$$ on keeping it correct and both are due for new injectors
The V8 Mack is not a copy of the Scania V8. Mack did aquire the rights to the open combustion chamber from the Scania V8. Besides that, the motors are completely different. Your E9 has 4 heads. The Scania V8 has 8 heads. That in itself would make the motors completely different.
wow, thats a very nice looking mack superliner. what year is it? my dad owned a 82 superliner, except it had a big cam 3 cummins in it with a 13 speed OD.
@@gary96397 - You're correct, A Scania V8 does sound a "HE'LL" of a lot better............What ever that means. But this V8 MACK Sounds a "HELL" of a lot better then a Scania and your comment.
Mack always had the 16.4L V8 in their lineup in both the U.S. and Australia with France to follow lots of years later (Renault Magnum V8). At the time Scania's displacement was only at 14.2L until a few years ago when they replaced the 14.2L V8 with their own 16.4L V8, but in comparison, there is no way that Scania and Mack developed the 16.4L V8 jointly.
@@keonekaleikula-kele3795 That's incredible statistics. My father had an MAN that was repowered with a Scania DS 8 . They made responsive engines for a 4 stroke and economical. An E-9 Mack could get 6 MPG as a normal Semi-trailer.
@cehisa Smoke doesn't do anything to ozone layer. The soot falls to earth. But breathing it while air born is linked to lung cancer and other respiratory problems. But that does not stop me from loving it!
Right, the load is to tall.. had to remove the ROPS, cab, exhaust pipes, and lift cylinders. Thats why they use rail trailers to haul em around in the states.
mitchellcorp what did you mean v8 scania and mack is the same engine?I know scania has developed for mack direct fuel injection in the 60s,and selling muck buses in sweden but never hear of a engine developed togeather
aussiedusty(v8 scania and mack both the same engine)just 1 comes out the front door and 1 comes out the back door.but i agree they have a sound of their own.
@hwoods01 Gravity will hold it down...trust me...I carried 2 half tracks over 500 miles once and forgot to chain down the rear one. It never moved an inch.
hahns mate u got ur points but i agree with peter . i just took the new actros 660 v8 merc gross 120 for a spin and i tell u it would give a 600 cat or ixc a run for its money .
@bazzab0mg08 Even though this video is in Australia and the Toureg isn't designed for towing heavy loads, try to drive it down the road with something like that and see how fast your engine overheats.
i seen one and only one mack here in canada with a scania motor and it was a 6 cyl in a mid 80,s r model tandem dump truck.. very strange for these parts
Mack E9 V8, shares the same bottomend as some of the scania V8's, that's why it sounds so much like the scania's. The designprocess of the engine was a collab between mack and scania. Yes, my response is a little late.
omg that sounds soo sweet compared to some of the new trucks they are bringing into new zealand ...they are starting to put that ad blue shit into trucks and it quietens the baffles in the mufflers.
as well as scania proving the v8 has more life in it....look at all the new models , still the same 8v engine as they used in the 70s lmao......ive seen more 6's on the side of the road than v8s :)

That superliner is pulling that Dozer like a champ very nice machine💪
Gotta love that deep roar that a mack produces
The reason they sound like that is there firing order is different to any other v8 😍

That is some fine sounding wind.
AIN'T NOTHIN LIKE A SUPERDOG!!!! especially with a 525hp mack V8 E9 in it!!!!
5 STARS all the way!!!!
500 magnum
Sweet super dog. We had one back in the early 80's. I wish I had it back!
Beautiful truck. Well taken care of by the looks of things.
Beautiful Take off
That's a nice Mack. Sweet looking paintjob.
Probably my favorite video of all time.
That v8 mack has no problem pulling that.
No better heavy hauler than a Mack :D
Thats a beautiful truck and it sounds awesome
This is what I call... POWER!!
old macks, im with you. new macks, not so much. things started going downhill when volvo bought them out.
Best sounding diesel engine hands down Mac V8
badass truck and damn thats a big load
Nothing better than a Mack E-9 V-8
Unless it’s a Mack E-9 V-8 that’s been turned up

Nice truck and great sound
Now that`s a proper truck
And THAT is what an E-9 is all about!
Sounds great, oh that’s the wind😂🤣
La fuerza mack ,, lo mejor del mercado

classic e9 ,v8 ,,the greatest name in American trucks now owned by Renault,"1990",driven one of the newer 454 hp in-line 6's,,Give me the v8 anyday,,
The E500 "500 hp" was made until about 2002 in the US.
L❤VE THE ROAR SOUND💯💪👏👍
What a trailer
i miss that sound

What is the total weight ? Great video !! Thanks

what breed of float is it man, a drake or what. does it widen to 4.5m or only 3.5 whatever it's a nice piece of gear that bet is worth a small fortune
wow that sounds the dogs !
Such a pity the wind messed up the sound of that beautiful unit.
damn, how big is the site that this dozer is going to? that thing is huge.
aussiedusty(v8 scania and mack both the same engine)just 1 comes out the front door and 1 comes out the back door.but i agree they have a sound of their own.
thats the same engine as killer mack pulling truck! E9 right?
Nothin can come close to an old mack motor for power and reliability.....the new ones, thats another story.
Dat wind noise. Would have to be Victoria.
Oh The old E9s

copperheadmarine I’m in the heavy haul biz if I remember right that D11 stripped like that is 285K .
What's the most hp that can be made from a Mack V8 before becoming a puller engine?
650hp without much effort

sounds like da choppa!!!!!
if u guy;s like the sound of a big v8 diesel, u need to listin to the europien brand scania v8
LOVE the sound of a v8 diesel
When you need something moved that’s very heavy get a BullDog Mack with a E9 500
6 chains for Approx 180,000#.. or about #30,000 per chain.. Problem officer?
Where'd u put the cab lol
You need to do something about the wind noise, the truck could hardly be heard.
@bazzab0mg08 :
Yeah sure, you keep thinking that. We won't burst your bubble.
What a fuckin beast.
six chains.
what is it for an engine, mack or cat v8

omg that sounds soo sweet compared to some of the new trucks they are bringing into new zealand ...they are starting to put that ad blue shit into trucks and it quietens the baffles in the mufflers.
Forgot to mention, Renault then got acquired by Volvo.
at the end of the day ankles a trucks a truck if it does the job makes u money ifs just a few hundred grand pile of scrap steel .
The biggest mistake mack ever made was dropping the V8 superliners!!!!
One of J.Ks
what year is that ?
Sure would have been better without the wind noise
Shame about the wind
as well as scania proving the v8 has more life in it....look at all the new models , still the same 8v engine as they used in the 70s lmao......ive seen more 6's on the side of the road than v8s :)
pleas searg for a scania 144-530, you will love that sound m8
looks like volvo tanks and battery/tool boxes
Mindestens 600 HP.
horrible wind noise barely hear what is going on
@308scoutrfl navistar is building the new caterpillar motors... Its a damn shame. California is screwing it up for everybody...
