- Millions of tourists, both guys and girls come to Thailand, and all of South East Asia to enjoy the amazing massage shops that line the streets like coffee shops back at home,,,,,,
But the massage industry is different in every country,,,,
Here is my take on what makes Thailand different from Vietnam and Cambodia,,,,,, its stark and a little dark at times,,,,,
The best part of a Thai massage is when they walk on your back!
Funny I find some girls are good at this and some are downright horrible,,,
I have one place they I have this done by the same girl every time

That experience in Thailand. My spine was out and I asked the girl to walk in my back. She reluctantly did starting from the top, when she inched her way to my lower spine, we heard a loud click, she maybe thought that she broke my back but no she realigned my spine. It felt great.

Great video Doc Mark! I am heading over to Thailand in October and I am looking forward to getting a true, full body Thai massage without the happy ending version. Thai massages here in the US are in the $100 an hour range which I think is ridiculous. Some people are willing to pay that amount, so each to their own. In Australia you get 1h Thai for around 50 USD, in proper shop, private room, massage bed, towel, etc. Thes shops are everywhere, some offer extras some dont. Hand will cost you 30 USD on top.
US is rip off.

I had a very professional massage in Vietnam but it was organised by a local friend of mine so she knew which shop to send me to. Cost 220,000 dong for 1 hour ($12 AUD).
That's awesome and yes usually if you know somebody you can get fantastic service....

My experience of massages in Vietnam was totally different.
For me it was very easy to find proper professional massage in Ho Chi Minh, Danang, Hoi An and Hanoi that didn’t offer any ‘extra services’.
They were very easily to find on google maps and to check the reviews.
It was obvious which shops offered the ‘special options’ as they usually had scantily clad girls trying to beckon (cherry massage for example in district 1 HCMC) you inside.
Or on maps they were listed as a ‘VIP massage’.
I had a brutal experience

in vietnam u must have been in a red light area as the massage shops are usually the places for extras to happen - not many beer bars type places - but in vietnam u can go to the really nice places where they shave you ear wax and walk on your back and wash and dry your hair as part of the massage experience and it costs about 300000 vnd = 10 usd
Yes I have heard that the barber shops let's call them are the spots to go I was right in Ho Chi Minh city and it was just crap that's all I can say it was just crap I was so happy to get out of there
I get legit massages for 150฿ on soi chuwong 3, in Patong, and the lady I go to is amazing! I highly recommend them. I’ve only used a couple of the ladies there I forget her name but the lady with the huge bust is also very good. Again legit. But they are nice to look at. 🙂 There’s also another one for the same price around the corner from them on the side road next to the 711.

Me and my wife had a massage in the same room in Ho Chi Minh City. It was a terrible massage! and we felt uneasy all the way through.

My last visit to Vietnam, I went to several massage shops in Saigon and in Halong. There were all regular massage shops offering no extra services. At every shop, I had the full body massage. I chose the massage out of their menu. However, each and every one of the shops tacked on a mandatory tip of 200k to the price of the massage which they claimed would go directly to the masseuse. I thinks it's all BS and a way for management to extract more money from the client at the expense of the masseuse, because in spite of what they claim, I do not see much of that money actually going to the masseuse. Why I say that? Because at one place, the masseuse outwardly showed displeasure that I didn't give her more tips over and above what I already paid. I never ever experienced this BS tactic in Thailand.
I sadly had a brutal experience at trying to get a massage in Saigon....

I'm rethinking my massage techniques. As I age.. My massage goal is body rejuvenation/longevity.
That being said, I'm going with thicker girls/strong looking girl lol, or a middle-age guy. Someone I know has the strength to breakdown body tissue.

Mark, my experience in Vietnam going for Massage, both in DaNang and Hanoi is completely opposite of yours in Ho Chi Minh. The happy ending service in Vietnam is mostly considered a taboo.

But there are tons of spa treatment TH-cam channels that feature TH-camrs going to massage shops and barber shops getting wonderful legit, deep pressure massages in Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Judging by what I see on TH-cam, I would have never thought that the dodgy stuff was so out in the open, much less so difficult to avoid.
Yes there are lots of channels that focus on the real treatments,,,
But they are centric and KNOW where to go.
I am showing you the day to day reality here.....
I never sugarcoat things.

I experienced Traditional Thai massage in Bangkok in 2012. That little masseuse sure knew how to work my bones. I felt quite worn out and horrible after the session, but the next day after sleeping well my body felt completely revitalized. Most of my back issues were gone. About the girls, we should not forget that they are human beings. Also, what does a paedophile look like? He could look like anyone walking by us on the street. These young girls should go to school, and be cared for and protected. Not victimized as a part of a set up for men's sexual gratification.

Ive been to Siem Reap. Its a f-ing tourist trap if you let it happen. Based on my experience there i would say Cambodia is a grittier version of Thailand. I found the tuk tuk drivers to be decent. The shops, traps. I didnt get a massage but this was pre covid times

Since you are the frugal traveler in Southeast Asia may be the advice you should give for a massage is to find a rather old and homely Woman and when you are getting the massage just imagine she is the most beautiful woman in the world. First off, your videos & your storytelling skills are some of the best I have seen on TH-cam. I live here in Bangkok and I m a seasoned traveler. Your story is 100% true. I also enjoy a straight up massage and it took me a few month to figure out most of the massage shops in the tourist areas are aimed at selling the “ happy ending” massages. I go to my neighborhood massage shop and the 60 year old masseuse gives the most professional and therapeutic massage for 250 baht. I always tip 100 baht. South Korean massage shops, in my humble yet extensive experience, give the best massages but it’s five times the cost of Thailand shops. Thanks to your report, I m not going to bother with trying to find a legit massage in Vietnam when I visit. Keep up the great work. You are awesome & viewers should be grateful for your invaluable videos.

Yes they use a wood stick to poke certain points on your feet. Recently had a very bad massage in Vietnam - my feet were all blue with bruises was limping for a few days. The girl was very nice though - I think she just tried too hard but I am not going that place again.

In Patong there are many crappy places as well, I have experienced quite a lot of them getting rude and offensive when I say No to massage, also when you turn down the offer on "happy ending" all hell breaks lose, you wont believe the attitude , and I'm not afraid to mention "Wealth massage" in Patong (those girls hate me so much already, they probably have a "shoot on sight" bounty on me anyways... 😀 I don't want to pay over price for any of their services, I don't accept rude service because I decline, I even tell them up front that I only want massage. In Patong you can find some of the worst places for sure, there are also few good ones. I also find them so aggressive in getting customers I started to cross the street to avoid them, just walking 15 mins to the Gym every day I was offered several sexual services on my way. after 3-4 days when you tell them No all the time, you really start to get annoyed, that it's not possible to walk in peacefully on the street. I started walking along the beach instead just to avoid the circus of the massage girls. However! a small life hack is to buy on of those cups of water you get after massage, just walk while drinking from that one, the girls will think you already got massage and don't bother asking you again. or find some old couple walking on the street and walk close to them, they think you are with your parents or something and they will leave you alone as well. 🙂

@@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean I know quite some girls working at massage in Patong, what I learned is that most of them are hired as freelancers, meaning they don't get paid to work there, they only make money from the "extra services" they provide, that is why they are so aggressive getting customers. also, and this is quite shocking.. they have very little knowledge about sexual transferred diseases, they say they get tested regularly, but most of them really don't and really don't care at all, they live with the risk. Those who actually gets tested, do it once per month, that is totally bull**** because it takes 6 weeks for HIV to become active for testing, so if she gets tested on the 1st of the month (example) and she is infected, she will still skate through the test as "not infected" 2 weeks in the following month she is HIV positive, and there are still 2 weeks till she gets tested next time. Do the math.. how many guys can she service in those 2 weeks, some of them without condom.... Honestly you are better off playing Russian roulette instead if you ask me, at least that game ends it all really fast 😀

Sometimes i take old 40yo+ hoping they wont be as pushy but its upsetting to say the least when these old bags try hard to turn you on by touching you, and they wouldt give up, sounds familiar?...then you wonder how i got myself in this situation.

Thai massage pre covid was ok in Pattaya. Bangkok was risky running into a lot of theft currency switching and other scams. both were clean enough. These days they are not clean but full of slime,mold,yeast and the last patrons fluids on towel and sheet. Mats have multiple organisms growing in them.
Vietnam massage is interesting and not much of a muscular challenge. Hygiene is minimal but girl does things which relax you using her boidy to body rather than just going for the johnson as thai do.
That's the most disgusting thing I never thought about.....
