  • Today I look at the new LEGO Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree set which has everyone excited over the internet until you reflect on the price and your income. Nintendo and LEGO strike again.
    I’m pretty satisfied with this right now especially as someone who isn’t attached to this licence because skipping this will be pretty easy for me. But I feel bad for all of you watching who want Link and Zelda in LEGO but may have to skip over this. Like I said in my Barad Dur video, theres just so many amazing sets releasing these days. I’d rather Lord of the Rings sets over Zelda because I’m more connected to Lord of the Rings.

      I think part of it is the licensing of these sets, they seem to be quite steep in comparison. If you look at Lego's own themes, they are much more affordable. (and more fun in my eyes)

    You do not have to buy a Lego licensed LOZ set. There are plenty of ”brick building toys“ for sale if you want tiny models. Now did those companies pay for a Nintendo license? Definitely not. But before you spend half a rent payment on Legos, consider spending $10 on a little model of a guardian or even spending $80 on the inevitable knock off that there will be for this exact set. Do not let FOMO and consumerism part you with your money.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure it is a great option unless you know the brick you are getting is good quality. There are some (western europe based) brick companies that make great designs from good materials that are worth it, but they abide by the same rules as Lego, not stealing designs or copyrighted stuff for themselves. I'd much rather buy high quality stuff, but buy less. There is only so much space in your house for display anyways, let alone storage for parts.
      If you look at it that way, just sticking to original Lego and choosing and picking what you buy, instead of going for the overpriced expensive ones like this one is not a bad idea at all.

  • @pinobluevogel6458
    @pinobluevogel6458 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great looking set and a good review. It doesn't get bogged down into discussion material about price anymore than it has to. You simply cannot buy all the Lego sets and need to make choices. This, like the Barad-Dur set, are sets I will skip. There are quite hopeful things happening on the other side, with quite cheap minecraft sets, somewhat affordable jungle sets with good looking Lego animals and a good looking tuxedo cat that all released this weekend. So much to go into!
    Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

    • @RayLilySeries
      @RayLilySeries  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RayLilySeries I think King Of Red Lions would be good for a set and if this becomes a theme hyrule casstle is bound to happen. I would be happy for a small set of Link and Oponya with a small tree and owel. Ganondorf should use the sandwich board piece for sise and extra hight. The body for Robotnic would almoste work gor a goran. And some bifig moblins would be great. This has such potential as a theme.

  • @NickonPlanetRipple
    @NickonPlanetRipple หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think $300 is reasonable. It has at least $250 worth of pieces and a lot of them are BIG pieces, not just 1x1 studs inflating the parts count. The new molds and prints are likely only ever going to be used in this one set, so they can't split the cost between others, similarly it also bears that hefty Zelda license all by itself, and there's the added value of it being a two in one. I don't think the price is bad at all for what you get. But it IS unreasonable that there aren't smaller, cheaper alternatives. Kid Link's house could be its own set. It's the same thing with LoTR, they lock these characters behind HUGE builds that you have to go all in on, and are neglecting to lower that barrier to entry with impulse sets, cause they think "Kids won't buy smaller sets cause only adults like these properties" or whatever.

    • @RayLilySeries
      @RayLilySeries  หลายเดือนก่อน

      LEGO + Nintendo tax leaves a huge dent in the wallet. Link’s house being included in this set is crazy to me, that’s the perfect small set we would have seen back in the 2000s-2010s era of LEGO.

    • @Oscar-ek2jx

      If a few new, one-off molds and prints added up to $50 to a set, then how on earth would CMF be profitable? You get at least one new molded piece per minifigure, and they are only 5$.

  • @rafeh751
    @rafeh751 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    $500 for the Zelda set? No… it’s $300. You were 200 off. Also, it’s not expensive when you actually think about it. Brand new molds, brand new theme, brand new minifigures, not to mention it’s a 2 in 1 set. Display pieces are normally expensive already but when you also add in all the brand new stuff, it makes total sense. 2,000 something pieces too

    Ridiculous price gouging by LEGO, they know people will buy this up so they keep buying it. This is not what people asked for, people want affordability. Despicable LEGO denies all the sets on LEGO ideas only to charge double or triple the price for fans who have been desperate for LEGO LOZ

    • @RayLilySeries
      @RayLilySeries  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve wondered for years if I’m the only one that thinks it’s interesting that LEGO will deny Ideas submissions seemingly for justifiable reasons only to then release the model themselves and not have to affiliate it with the original Ideas designers. I believe someone on the design team on this set though is actually an original submission designer for a Zelda Ideas project from years ago.

    • @pinobluevogel6458
      @pinobluevogel6458 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Today I had a whole discussion about Lego pricing with someone on a Barad-Dur video. He was of the opinion there wasn't much proof for demand for affordable sets, as Lego keeps making increasing profits each year with their current run of 100+ dollar sets in every theme. I vehemently disagree, it is the only thing I see everywhere, people asking for cheap sets they can buy on a whim, or as sets for their kids to play with.
      A set like this in particular, with Zelda being extremely popular for kids and young adults, it makes sense to have something which they can afford, even if it is only a small build with a minifigure.
      And for sure Lego has done this thing in the past, where they bring out IDEAS sets that are quite close to the ones that are submitted by fan designs. Very unethical, but probably not against the law in any way.

      Sauron set was the big debate with people over the past few weeks, and then Zelda was announced.
      As some have said, the success of this set could lead to smaller affordable products in the future. There’s also potential sales to look forward to, but essentially I’m in the same boat. Can’t justify the prices on everything so have to make choices on what sets to skip.

    Im so glad that lego minecraft is such a consistent affordable line. Its a nice reminder that you can have a branded theme which is still in touch with the community.
    I think it has to do with the fact minecraft as a game has basically grown alongside the minecraft sets. It was never a huge reveal, they were always trying to be good toys first and foremost, rather than banking on nostalgia/manchildren.

    Sorry but not sorry your points seem rather moot. Lego still has their brands directed towards children and these sets are intentionally directed towards those that have money and time. If finances are your concern then clearly this is not a hobby targeted towards you and you should pursue your creative ventures elsewhere. In addition I don’t see how world problems are lego problems. There always are and will be issues going around. I promise you the Iraq invasion back in the early 2000s did not stop normal people and soldiers from buying an Xbox. Part of being an adult is recognizing what to keep and let go in your life and not all things are able to be reached.
